Let's discuss "How Green Was My Valley" (1941)

Directed by: John Ford.

Starring: Roddy McDowall, Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara, Donald Crisp, Sara Allgood, Anna Lee, Patric Knowles and John Loder.

Winner of 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

"It tells the story of the Morgans, a hard-working Welsh mining family, from the point of view of the youngest child, Huw, who lives with his affectionate and kind parents as well as his sister and five brothers, in the South Wales Valleys during the late Victorian era. The story chronicles life in the South Wales coalfields, the loss of that way of life and its effects on the family."

I just watched it yesterday for the first time. Huw's character was adorable as hell and my favorite scene was when the boxer and his manager smack the shit out of the abusive teacher. A bit too much of bible-thumping moments, but still a very endearing film.

I've been meaning to watch it since Frasier mentioned it

I love Donald Crisp; he's one of those distinct character actors that elevates every movie he was in

R1 beat me. I remember an episode where it was mentioned.

I watched this film fairly recently for the first time and I must say I was most impressed with little Roddy's performance. He was a very naturalistic child actor. It's interesting that he never became a leading man (judged too effete, I'm sure) and proved a solic character actor in his day, while never getting a really meaty role ala Anthony Perkins in Psycho, as they remind me a lot of each other.

It’s a great movie, but while watching it it’s hard to forget Roddy had the biggest cock in Hollywood.
