Almost 2000 years ago Virgin Mary was assumed (she did not ascend, that's for boys only) into heaven and is seated at the right hand. Water from the ocean today will heal you. Flyoverland is fucked.

You didn't hear it from me, but Mary was no virgin. That bitch was run through. She was the Mrs. Irving Thalberg of her day.

August 15 is also the day I quit smoking, 38 years ago. Thanks, Mary!

One of the many shitting things about being raised Catholic was a holy day of obligation falling on a non-Sunday during summer vacation. That meant you had to go to interrupt one of your days of dwindling summer freedom to go to Mass on your own time! I was always so happy when Aug. 15 fell on a Sunday. That meant that Sunday was a two-fer. OTOH, we got Catholic school-year holy days of obligation (like Nov. 1 and Dec. 8) off from school, and when they fell on a Sunday, it kinda sucked.
