And shit, he was hot as fuck when he was young! I'd have gotten all over that piece of 70s beefcake.
Grand Canyon, LA Story, Planes Trains, Little Shop of Horrors, Roxanne, and more recently, Shopgirl.

My favorite is The Man With Two Brains.

I still love The Jerk. It was so stupid, and he was so perfectly stupid in it. A comedy classic.

R3 That's a good one, too.
Anne Uumellmahaye. Voiced by Sissy Spacek. And Merv Griffin as the window cleaner killer.

I sent him an Old Spice gift set and a pair of argyle socks.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 14, 2025 7:19 PM |
It's a tradition for me and and my friends to watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles every Thanksgiving. Martin wisely turned the spotlight over to John Candy for that one, but they're both equally wonderful in it. The "surprise" ending still gets me every time I watch it.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 14, 2025 7:19 PM |
Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Parenthood and his sketches on SNL are gold. Haven't seen The Jerk - is that the one where his nose keeps getting longer?
He played off John Candy's character perfectly. (I miss John Candy to this day like he was my own father.)
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 14, 2025 7:20 PM |
I'd like to help him find his special purpose.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 14, 2025 7:20 PM |
He wrote for The Sonny and Cher Shore as well as The Cher Show and Cher keeps saying how lousy the show was. If it weren't for those variety shows, she never would have gotten a nose job and had her teeth fixed but would have still had a tranny child.

R10 Great film. Criminally underrated.
It bombed at the box office, mainly because audiences weren't ready to see wacky Steve Martin in such a somber movie with such a depressing ending.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 14, 2025 7:22 PM |
He was such an odd choice for Pennies from Heaven but it's a great movie.
Did he ever get married? I had the impression he had hangups with women that really only another man could solve.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 14, 2025 7:23 PM |
R13, remember he lived with DL Goddess Bernadette for years.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 14, 2025 7:25 PM |
R13 He's been married twice. The first time to Victoria Tennant, his co-star in All of Me. He's been married to Anne Stringfield since 2007.

He’s a ringer for Jim Morrison in that shot. I always do a double take.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 14, 2025 7:28 PM |
I can't believe he had brown hair at one time. He's been a silver fox my entire life.

LA Story and Bowfinger are my two favorites Martin movies.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 14, 2025 7:37 PM |
I’m in the Steve Martin can do no wrong camp, but I especially enjoy watching him in Parenthood and A Simple Twist of Fate. I’m also a big fan of Only Murders.
I can’t believe he’s 80. He looks great.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 14, 2025 7:41 PM |
I saw him during his Wild and Crazy Guy tour and it’s crazy to remember what a huge phenomenon he was at the time. And he’s still hilarious.

When he played banjo in a DL straw hat band—- uglee!

Tut, tut R20

He’s very sexy in an unconventional way.
But I heard he’s far from pleasant if you deal with him.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 14, 2025 7:53 PM |
I saw him at a comedy club in Denver circa 1977.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 14, 2025 7:55 PM |
R8 No, the Jerk is about a complete moron who leaves his family of poor black sharecroppers to find his way in the big city. He ends up accidentally inventing something that makes him a millionaire. The movie is ridiculous from start to finish, but so worth watching. Here's a glimpse at how completely off the wall it is:

He hit me in the head with a fondue pot.

He's a very sour man in real life.

Sometimes you have to separate the art from the artist.

Maybe not prime Martin but "Bringing Down the House" was quite fun. Cast included Queen Latifah and Joan Plowright.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 14, 2025 8:09 PM |
I liked The Jerk mainly because you got to see Martin's naked body, his nether regions concealed only by his dog Shithead.

Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid was genius.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 14, 2025 8:21 PM |
His physical comedy was brilliant in All of Me. I think he should've gotten an Oscar nomination.

Steve Martin came to my house and kicked my dog.

R38 Was its name Shithead?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 14, 2025 8:28 PM |
R36 I liked the idea behind Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, but the gimmick got old quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 14, 2025 8:29 PM |
R37 You even get some VPL in that clip.
Nice.

I find him really sexy even at this advanced age
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 14, 2025 8:37 PM |
How could we have gotten this far and not have mentioned the absolutely brilliant Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. This is my favorite Martin film. If I catch it on, I have to watch the entire thing. And Three Amigos is a close second. Martin and Short together are undeniable. I credit that movie to this day for helping me learn the word “Plethora” as a kid.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 14, 2025 8:38 PM |
Because I have thing for full heads of prematurely gray hair, I've wanted him since the late 70s. And his art collection, too.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 14, 2025 8:49 PM |
I watched Parenthood recently and I had forgotten what I great movie it is. Very touching and funny. Dianne Wiest and Tom Hulce were criminally underrated actors.
I also watch My Blue Heaven. I had never seen it before. It was silly and fun and Steve was great as an Italian mobster. I also love the completely random Merengue dance scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 14, 2025 8:49 PM |
R43, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is the best! He and Caine are brilliant! Love him as Ruprecht the weird "brother" 🤣
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 14, 2025 9:14 PM |
At his height, he was often a guest judge on The Gong Show, which showed how he really didn't take fame too seriously, or at least understood it.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 14, 2025 9:14 PM |
I liked him a lot as Oscar host. The 2001 opening monologue is specially my favorite:
"Hosting the Oscars is much like making love to a woman. It's something I only get to do when Billy Crystal is out of town."
"Right now, all over the world, there are 800 million people watching us right now. And everyone of them is thinking the exact same thought: THAT WE'RE ALL GAY!"
"Ellen Burstyn did something that not many actresses would do for a role in a movie. She made herself look 30lbs heavier and 20 years older... and Russell Crowe still hit on her."
"And there's Charlton Heston. Be careful what you say to him, because he thinks he was in Gladiator".
"Javier Bardem gave such a brilliant performance in a movie about a homosexual poet persecuted by hostile military forces. A movie the rapper Eminem called the feel good movie of the year".
"People are complaining that they feel the trailer gives away too much of the movie. I saw the trailer for 'Dude, Where's My Car?' and it ruined it for me. Maybe that's not fair cause I read the book."
"Maybe Hollywood movies are too violent. I took a 9yo kid to see 'Gladiator', and he cried during the entire film. Mabye because he didn't know who I was."
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 14, 2025 9:50 PM |
The two part documentary on him was amazing. The first half was his career, which was astounding. The second was just him today and his reflecting on his process. Two completely different vibes and both well done.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 14, 2025 10:09 PM |
R46, I don’t know how the actors didn’t die laughing during those Ruprecht scenes.

I love Housesitter with Goldie Hawn. The jerk, man with 2 brains, Roxanne and Bowfinger is hysterical and so underrated; Christine Baranski is hilarious in it...many laugh out loud moments. i liked his tv show Murders in the building. Season one.
