We really need more elected officials doing this. While on the surface it seem childish and lowbrow, it really effective if you consider it is the only language Trump responds to and it makes the news. Plus the one thing he cant stand is being laughed at.

Yep, I am so tired of the double standard even the Corporate Media holds when it comes to Democrats must remain polite and play by the rules while MAGA and Republicans get to break them daily lying, cheating, hateful abusive childish behavior as accepted as that's just how they are with no push back.

Newsom seems to be just enough of a bitch to enjoy fighting Trump on his level. I agree with other posters here. It isn't enlightened discourse, but if flinging shit back at the orange ape subjects him to the sort of ridicule he deserves, go Gavin, go.
It doesn't make him a nice man, but it does get under the asshole's skin. The whole, "When they go low, we go high..." bullshit DOES. NOT. WORK. We're living with fascist assholes. Let's disengage our frontal lobes for a bit and kick them in the balls.
THEN we can talk about re-establishing and replenishing the shiny, idealistic towers of Democracy.

No one with close associations with the Bidens or the Clintons. Enough of both.
Buttigieg is never getting elected on a national ticket. Try to process that. I'm not holding my breath for the "first gay president" when our whole country and democracy are crumbling before our eyes from an unrelenting onslaught of fascism. No LGBT politician is getting elected on a national ticket today, 3 years from, or for the foreseeable future. Let it go, there are much bigger fish to fry.

It's not about having the first gay president. Buttigieg is highly respected outside of Fox News and their haters. He has the skills, MATURITY, knowledge, and everything you could want in a president. Most straight Democrats according to polling back this up.

R26, elections aren't decided by Democrats. They're also not decided by Republicans. They're decided by swing voters and independents, and that group leans conservative and has no loyalty to any party or politician.
I'm glad a bunch of "straight democrats" aren't turned off by a gay man in a position of power, but you really need to get a clue about the rest of the electorate. Sad to say it really doesn't matter how good or smart or ethical Buttigieg is. At the end of the day he's still LGBT and the country is no where near ready to elect an openly LGBT President.

by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 15, 2025 4:39 AM |
I just watched Newsom on the Heather Cox Richardson show and he was very impressive, serious and intense. HCR seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with desire at some points. The comments on the HCR interview were all overwhelmingly in admiration and support of Newsom. Most saying FINALLY SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING!
I'm LOVING Newsom's trolling of Trump on social media. It's very well done and very smart. Trump will fucking hate it and obsess over it and I'm here for it. Trump likes to dish it out to "Newscum" but he is a glass jawed titty baby and can't take being insulted back. It makes him insane that anyone would dare do that to him. I'm hoping for some later night truth social meltdowns.
I've seen a lot of posters on DL saying that the Democratic Party is doing nothing and not fighting. "Where are they?" is continually asked. This is invariably answered by other posters defending the Dems saying "but they're not in power - they can't do anything - what do you expect!!!!!". Nobody expects them to be able to do anything much in congress or the senate - but what Newsom is doing right now - that's what Democratic Party supporters are looking for. Desperate for. Someone to stand up to Trump and to fight fire with fire. To talk back. To fight back. Newsome is the only one doing it and it illuminates starkly how fucking useless Schumer and Jefferies and most of the old school Democratic Party is right now. If Newsom isn't careful he will be the presidential nominee in 2028 because he is projecting fight back and power and filling the void of useless, out of touch Dems who all just have to retire so that new politicians can take their place who are able to meet the moment and task at hand.

We tired the high road, it FAILED. You know the definition of insanity right? So stop clinging to the past thinking its a winning strategy. It's time to get our hands dirty and into the mud.
When Hillary tried this with " basket of deplorables" they had a meltdown. The problem was, she just dipped her toe in the water and jump right out after someone made a comment. We need someone who will cannon ball into the pool and start swinging. Is it a good look? Maybe not, but this is a battle for survival not a bathing suit contest.

What is great about Newsom is that, unlike Trump, he can turn this act on and off. Obama could do that as well, but had cautiousness drummed into him. Newsom has gravitas even if he has to wash off a little mud.
The handwringing over actually fighting back needs to go away. Newsom is seizing the moment, not hiding under the covers until MAGA goes away.

On the contrary, it shows that someone on the left is not intimidated by Trump and is willing to take the fight to him, as opposed to Schumer and Jeffries. Newsom is on to something and has the right combination to make it work. He's not bad looking, he's masculine enough, and relentless. Fighting this with intelligence and logic doesn't work. The âgo highâ bullshit feeds into their belief that leftists are snobby elitists. Newsom is trashing Dump and MAGA on their own level, using their own tactics. Itâs a bit hard for MAGA to complain about California redistricting in the same way as Texas. Newsom is playing their game and not rolling over. Forget the divisiveness with the trans and Israel and Palestine⊠just fucking win first. Every last fucking Democrat needs to get behind someone like Newsom even if itâs blindly, and fucking do it now. Show some solidarity for once.

[quote]Yesterday, DeMaio said on X, âI am looking forward to Nov 4 when California voters hand Gavin Newsom a humiliating defeat by rejecting his corrupt and dishonest redistricting scheme. In one fell swoop they will 1) defend fair elections and 2) end his political career.â
[quote]Newsomâs official press office responded with a news headline concerning DeMaio from 2013. It concerned alleged inappropriate behavior in a restroom. DeMaio has always denied this. âYou wonât be âhandingâ us anything, Carl,â quipped Newsomâs official press office account.
Carl:

And Trump will be watching that like a hawk and as someone said above - his blood pressure will be rising and everything Newsom is doing will make Trump CRAZY! Hopefully crazy enough to have some meltdowns on truth social or even better - in a live press conference. Trump has constructed an alternate reality for himself where everyone loves him, his polling numbers are the best in history, the American people agree with everything he's doing and where he's going to be given a Nobel Peace Prize because he is so beloved by the world. When Fox News is continually talking about Newsom's tweets then Trump has to deal with actual reality. It'll be making him crazy!

I think itâs a good strategy. Trump appealed to many because he came across as âstrongâ and basically a bully.
Making fun of him and showing him being bullied makes him look weak.

I think I've told this story on DL before but...
During the early days of COVID I logged onto Facebook one day and a bunch of old friends from college were talking about something or other egregious and overly sexual that Kimberly G had just done. Then, someone I must have gone to school with but did/do not know chimed in,

I wonder if Gargoyle has any dirt on Newsom that includes receipts. Given how heâs putting himself out there, Iâd assume not. But she could really be his Achillesâ heel, even if itâs stuff they make up. Newsom would be the only candidate Republicans would fear. I'm sure the new Mrs. Newsom wouldn't mind being a primary source for all kinds of shit.

This is fantastic. Believe me, MAGA gets it and they get it hard. They may try to perform uncaring nonchalance, but these mimic tweets are pitch perfect mockeries of Trump's contrived communication style. They can use the "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" retort all they want, but it doesn't fly in this scenario. The approach is a brutal and accurate takedown of Trump's entire schtick. This debased, cutthroat approach has been desperately needed. Now, every time someone crafts a post on behalf of Trump (or if Trump does it himself) in this same style there's going to be a wobble of insecurity in their psyche because of the blatant mockery going on. This is all entertaining too, and unfortunately, it's the way the political game has to be played right now. I will forever resent Michelle Obama for psyching the Democrats into that shitty "when they go low, we go high" bullshit. The only thing that phrase told the MAGA hordes is that Democrats feel they're "above" those in MAGA. (I mean, in essence, it's true, but it added fuel to the MAGA outrage over the Dems portraying themselves as the "Elites.") Fighting fire with fire, no matter how ugly it looks, is the way to go. Bravo Gavin and team!

They think Melanie, whose cooter you can Google and who was a literal hooker, somehow has more class and refinement than Michelle Obama. [quote]These include using derogatory nicknames for his political opponents, writing in all-caps and overtly and exaggeratedly praising himself for real or imaginary achievements. Pay attention, Dems:
[quote]While the top issues for most Americans are high prices, inflation and health care, our increasingly unpopular president is laser-focused on things nobody cares about. Like downplaying exhibitions on the history of slavery at the Smithsonian.
[quote]So when a public figure who is unpopular comes out and says he wants to scrub all the stuff about âhow bad Slavery wasâ from Americaâs museums, I think other public figures would be on solid ground if they denounced him.
[quote]Republicans wonât do it, of course. Theyâve spent decades ignoring the needs of their voters, focusing instead on tossing them red meat from the culture wars and assuming that bashing liberals is all that matters.
[quote]But even in Democratic circles, most continue to go after Trump with kid gloves, with notable exceptions like Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
[quote]And corporate types are, by and large, either silent or outright supportive of a president liked by fewer and fewer Americans.
[quote]From a marketing and political strategy standpoint, none of this makes sense. Trumpâs bullying nature and willingness to use the power of the federal government against his enemies are clearly cowing many, which is pathetic.
[quote]You donât wait around for an unpopular bully to gather more power. Bending to the will of a wannabe tyrant has never benefited anybody. Standing up and shouting a wannabe tyrant down, on the other hand, is the kind of thing that gets remembered.

This is really working because the MAGA mouthpieces are in a tizz about it and Fox News keeps talking about it - Gutfeld, Watters, Hannity et al.
Many ex-Trump staff have said this will really be getting under Trump's skin and making him crazy. Hopefully he will lose it during a press conference!

I love Newson's clowning of Trump, but it is maddening that so many think Newsom is "fighting for me!"
Passing legislation that changes my life for the better like Obamacare and tax credits is fighting for me, but the brain dead public seems to think these circus acts are much better. I'm enjoying the mockery more than most people, but it isn't "fighting for me", because it doesn't change a damned thing.
People like Brian Tyler Cohen are momentarily less shrill while swooning at these shenanigans. I'm more entertained than impressed, but in the age of Trump, I guess this is the only thing the public responds to?

[quote]Heâs got skeletons. But no one has more than trump!
We are living in a world where skeletons are selling points, makes someone edgy and more interesting. I don't think there is anything you can do or say anymore that would turn people off. That is why the Epstein Files is a no sum game. If they had a video of Donald Trump molesting a 12 yo girl, his followers would refuse to believe it, period. And he seems to be unable to get convicted of anything that would land him anywhere close to jail. So Gavin is perfectly OK.
His delivery is like some mix of Bill Clinton and Obama. He sounds like Clinton at this point.

R321 Newsom is preaching to the choir. He doesn't appeal to the nation as a whole, especially being governor of woke California and being a woke Democrat who pushes unpopular far-left issues like open borders, DEI, CRT, trans/nonbinary ideology, socialism, anti-capitalism, etc. that are ruining his state.

R331 is practically a parody - every single reactionary culture war buzzword wedged in there somewhere. It's like a conservative robot talking.
California has now jumped from the fifth to the fourth-largest economy in the world. At some point maybe conservatives will realize that culture war issues are irrelevant to a strong economy. Mississippi isn't very "woke" but its economy is on the third-world level and is largely based on gambling.
Americans are more concerned about economic opportunity than trans issues or CRT or even supposedly open borders.

[quote]Newsom is preaching to the choir. He doesn't appeal to the nation as a whole, especially being governor of woke California and being a woke Democrat who pushes unpopular far-left issues like open borders, DEI, CRT, trans/nonbinary ideology, socialism, anti-capitalism, etc. that are ruining his state.
Thanks so much for posting these word for word Fox News and hard right-wing media talking points about Newsom and California R331. So boring that you can't think for yourself. The problem for media parroting propagandists like you is that Newsom IS popular and Newsom IS cutting through and Trump and all the right-wing media are terrified because they can see it all slipping away.
If Newsome runs in 2028 then he will win.

At this stage it doesn't even matter if Newsom is the candidate in 2028, as long as this is the path that all future Democrats take. FLOOD social media with every example of corruption there is. Be provocative enough to call attention to it.
Congrats to him for taking this road.

To the magats trolling this thread, read this from Robert Teachman's Facebook page. It's quite an accurate and succinct a description of the trump administration.
The White House melts down and attacks music legend Jack White after he insults Donald Trump's "disgusting" and "vulgar" redecoration of the White House: âJack White is a washed-up, has-been loser posting drivel on social media because he clearly has ample time on his hands due to his stalled career,â claimed White House spokesman Steven Cheung. âItâs apparent [White]âs been masquerading as a real artist, because he fails to appreciate, and quite frankly disrespects, the splendor and significance of the Oval Office inside of âThe Peopleâs House,'â Cheung added.
This is Jack Whiteâs response⊠"Listen, Iâm an artist and not a politician so Iâm in no need to give my answer or opinion on anything if Iâm not inspired or compelled, but how funny that it wasnât me calling out trumpâs blatant fascist manipulation of government, his gestapo ICE tactics, his racist remarks about Latinos, Native Americans, etc. his ridiculous 'wall' construction, his attacks on the disabled, his attempted coup and mob insurrection and destruction of the sacred halls of congress, his disparaging sexist and pedophilic remarks about women, his obvious attempts at distraction about being a close personal friend of Jeffrey Epstein and his inclusion in the Epstein files, his ignorance of the dying children in Sudan, Gaza, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, his lack of empathy for military veterans and those struggling with poverty, his attempts to dismantle healthcare, his obvious wimpy and pathetic kowtowing to the dictators Putin and Kim Jong Un, his nazi like rallies, his attempts to sell merchandise and products like Goya beans through the office of the President, his fake 'gunshot to the ear' that he showed no medical records or photographs of, his constant, constant, constant lying to the American people, etc. etc. etc."
"No, it wasnât me calling out any of that, it was the f*cking DECOR OF THE OVAL OFFICE remarks I made that got them to respond with insults," he continued. "How petty and pathetic and thin skinned could this administration get? 'Masquerading as a real artist'? Thank you for giving me my tombstone engraving! Well hereâs my opinion, trump is masquerading as a human being." "Heâs masquerading as a christian, as a leader, as a person with actual empathy," he wrote. "Heâs been masquerading as a businessman for decades as nothing heâs involved in has prospered except by using other peopleâs money to find loophole after loophole and grift after grift."
"His staff of professional liar toadies like Steven Cheung and Karoline Leavitt have been covering up and masking his fascism as patriotism and fomenting hatred and division in this country on a daily basis," White went on. "And I have 'ample time on (my) hands'? That orange grifter has spent more tax payer money cheating at golf than helping ANYONE in the country. Improve. Anything. There is no progress with him, only smoke and mirrors and tax breaks for the ultra wealthy."
"So maga folk, enjoy your concrete paving over of the rose garden, your 200 million dollar ballroom in the White House, and your gaudy ass gold spray painted trinkets from Home Depot, cause he ainât spending any money on helping YOU unless you fit into his white supremacist country club rich idiot agenda,"
"Wow, he hates who you hate....good for you, be proud of yourselves, how christian of you all,"
End of Part 1

Part 2 from R353
"The only way you can support this conman is because you are a victim of the 2 party system and you 'defend your guy no matter what he does.'" he wrote. "No intelligent person can defend this low life fascist. This bankruptor of casinos. This failed seller of trump steaks, trump vodka, trump water, etc." "This man and his goon squad have failed upwards for decades and have fleeced the American people over and over," wrote White. "This professional golf cheat, this grifter who has hundreds of thousands of deaths from his inaction of the pandemic on his hands, this man that the majority of the country somehow were fooled into supporting and voting into office (through the flawed electoral college) and their love of reality television stars."
"Being insulted by the actual White House that this particular conman leads is a badge of honor to me, because anyone who trump supports and likes is a villain who gives nothing to their fellow man, only takes what can benefit themselves,"
"And no Iâm not a Democrat either, Iâm a human being raised in Detroit, Iâm an artist whoâs owned his own businesses like his own upholstery shop and recording label since he was 21 years old who has enough street sense to know when a 3 card monte dealer is a cheap grifter and a thief,"
"I was raised to believe that we defeated fascism in World War II and that we would never allow it again in the world. I don't always state publicly my political opinions, and like anyone I don't always know all of the facts, but when it comes to this man and this administration I'm not going to be like one of the silent minority of 1930's Germany. This man is a danger to not just America but the entire world and that's not an exaggeration, he's dismantling democracy and endangering the planet on a daily basis, and we. all. know. it." -JW III...
'To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.' - Theodore Roosevelt"

Brilliant speech recently by Texas State Representative Anne Johnson to Governor Abbot. Magats, listen if you dare.
In part, she said, âThis is about racism. And if you canât hear it from them, then hear it from me."
She also said, âcowardice and cheats,â a âpure power grab,â and " When Donald Trump called Georgia and asked for 12,000 votes, they told him no. We already know what Abbott said. She went on "If they knew they could win the election â they wouldnât be stealing 5 congressional seats. This is a blatant, racist power grab."
Bravo, Representative Johnson

R362 - What has led you to believe he hasn't or not been doing it for his entire career? As a Californian, I know he has protected ACA/Obamacare from the very start.
Are you senior-lesbian now that females have refrained from outing themselves on DL lest banning? If you are, I recall your Newsom hate stems from your stated hate of the Guilfoyle wife-choice.
Perhaps you could set aside your resentment about Latinas (I recall they're a personal attraction) and stick to the facts.
From another thread:
Thirty years ago, Newsom was wise to choose the daughter of the biggest Democratic fixer in San Francisco, Anthony Guilfoyle. Recussitating from another Kimbo post:
[QUOTE]It really wasn't a bad move back then, [R114]. She wasn't always so nutty Actually, it was a very smart, good one. Her father was a former cop and fixer for the SF Democratic party. Newsom was a Getty beneficiary, but Anthony Guilfoyle was from the other end of the SES spectrum. Working class stiff. Who made it.
[QUOTE]In San Francisco, Mr. Guilfoyle had a wide range of friends, in and out of the city's political establishment, and he became an entrenched member of Gavin Newsom's inner circle, both in Newsom's successful campaigns for his post on the Board of Supervisors and later during Newsom's 2003 campaign for mayor.
[QUOTE]Mr. Guilfoyle, known in political inner circles as "The Godfather," had many roles, from keeping the campaign workers fed as they worked into the wee hours, to counseling Newsom on the occasionally arcane ins and outs of San Francisco politics.
[QUOTE]"He was the one who took care of everybody," his daughter said Monday. "He was the communicator. He ran the back channels. He was tremendous when it came to dealing with field strategy. He was a key adviser to Gavin, talking to him about San Francisco, telling him who you can trust, giving him the measure of a person's integrity."

R54 no she didnât. She disrespected an entire demographic no matter how accurate she was. Other than that she talked like a politician. Notice that Trump never bashes regular people; he bashes celebrity figures, politicians. He bashes illegals. He never bashes citizens. He was savvy enough to never mention race when discussing crime in our cities. He knows his stankin ass would have never garnered 20% of the black male vote had he done so. Trump always brings it back to career politicians causing the dysfunction in our society. When Hill made those comments she was frustrated that she wasnât doing better in the polls. Iâm guessing them internals were also stressing her. Come Election Day we see why.
