Based on what you know about a famous person’s (past or present) real life personality, who do you think you’d be friends with in real life?
Who would be your celebrity friend IRL?

This will sound crazy, but Maureen Callahan. I find her parsing of popular culture is very interesting. Her show The Never just started a couple of months ago and she is totally on fire.
It is hard to choose someone else because virtually everyone I think of is an aggressive narcissist. I worked with someone famous in the international fashion world and she was so narcissistic that it made working with her incredibly difficult in many ways. It gets very bizarre. You can complement a project from last year because that isn’t close enough to the narcissist. She need something done today to be close enough to her supply. If something was done at 3pm, it doesn’t mean anything, only what was done at 5pm. Once we talked about a real trauma of hers that affected me deeply. Suddenly she said, from Cannes, that she was going waterskiing. She has literally started painting her exposed arms silver to get attention. She works constantly with a photographer who has literally almost killed her several times for wild shots. She calls the photog her best friend and she pays for these photos herself. No magazine has solicited them.

by Anonymous | reply 111 | August 29, 2025 11:38 AM |
Mindy Kaling or Tina Fey. They both seem less Hollywood/LA than the typical celeb. I think both went to college. It’s not that I see a college degree as a friend factor, but I think those four extra years as a “regular” person might make them less dissimilar to me.
Kaling might get exhausting, but she has a little bit of an underdog factor I like - both herself and she went on unappealing but media bullied Markle’s show. And then hilariously unintentionally made a fool of her with the name thing.
Fey is close to my age and I’ve found two of her shows (30 Rock and Kimmy) consistently hit my funny bone. I think we’d laugh at the same things and have shared points of reference.
I can see the appeal of Aniston, but for me she’s too Hollywood. Would she eat Doritos on my couch? No. I suspect I’d get on better with Brad (but he wouldn’t be in my top 10 candidates). That middle class, non entertainer family background thing again. It somehow comes through. Also Steve buschemi. I don’t think he has the four years as a regular person college student, but he was firefighter, so that’s several years as a regular person. Maybe the doctor from the Hangover and Community. Sneaking of Community, Danny Glover comes across that way to me, too. But I think he’s too young for us to have a lot in common.

I am team Kim Cattrall in all things could definitely spend weekends at her Canadian home sitting by the fire and drinking wine and talking about art. And I think Sarah Jessica Parker believes her own hype and caused the disaster that is AJTL by not throwing Kim a bone and giving her an extra couple of hundred thousand an episode and storylines that didn’t include her sexting Miranda’s kid.
But I also think I would be friends with Sarah Jessica Parker. She’s fun and in touch with her working class roots and I like that she has a separate social life to her husband.
