Poultry question

I'm curious what type or meat people prefer when eating chicken, turkey, etc. I've heard strong opinions about both so I'm curious what DL thinks.

Dark.

Dark meat is tastier than white meat. But the latter is better in chicken salad.

i hate when I see a fried chicken sandwich on a menu and then the description reads "thigh" instead of "breast." I know white meat can be dry and dark meat lovers claim dark meat has "more flavor," but to me it tasted gamey. Yuck.

They both taste good to me.

Dark meat, but specifically thighs. I'm not especially fussy about things, but I don't love legs. It's that stringy part I don't care for. I like breast for chicken cutlets and as R2 said, for chicken salad. Of course, I love wings, which are white meat. But thighs are my go-to for the most part.wi

As today is a chicken day, I'm making fried chicken tonight, which I haven't made in ages. Two thighs for me, and a breast for my partner. I'm considering making mashed potatoes with milk gravy from the drippings. No decision on the vegetable(s).

omg, thighs. Chicken breast is so tasteless. I steam thighs in my rice cooker along with the rice and some oil and seasoning and they are out of this world.

If you think thighs are “gamey”, try marinating them in lemon juice.

It depends on what I'm making. Also bad OP for not including duck on the list, it's rich and flavourful.

by Anonymousreply 7August 12, 2025 8:34 PM

People who only eat breast tend to also be bland and boring.

Thighs here too

by Anonymousreply 9August 12, 2025 9:24 PM

Both here too.

by Anonymousreply 10August 12, 2025 9:27 PM

Not true, R7. It's people who are adventurous in their food choices that tend to lead boring lives otherwise.

I prefer the meat around the thigh, but sometimes it can be raw. With chicken, it's important to use a thermometer or some such device to assure its readiness.

Preparing chicken can be fun for all involved.

Doesn't matter as long as it's young.
