What the fuck happened to her? I don’t even remember her mom being fat. Pharmaceuticals don’t make you swell up like that. She must be a manic binge eater.

Way back in 1994 I had a coworker who had severe bipolar disorder; we became friends and she told me about her long, disordered history before finally being diagnosed, and the struggle to find a drug/dosage protocol that worked. They tried most of the newer meds, but discovered a certain type of old-school lithium was best for her brain chemistry.

When I first met her she was already quite large and bloated-looking, and assumed she'd always looked that way. I cannot even describe my shock when one day she showed me pictures of how she used to look.

OP's original question - I think - is really about whether the crazy might be reversible.

And the answer to that is "no." She has schizophrenia, and even though she apparently take meds, the functional, funny and somewhat rational Amanda Bynes is a person she is not and is likely never to be again. She and Britney are taking the same cruise.

However, as r11 says, she seems somewhat self-aware that she is not all there and has solicited help in the past when she was in the middle of a fugue/break (the naked walk in downtown LA).

I saw a recent quote from her about going on Ozempic and she claimed she was around 170. She is pretty tall 5’7” at least but there is no fucking way she was under 200. Jessica Simpson was apparently 240 at her heaviest and she didn’t look bigger than Amanda and is also much shorter.

She lives on her own. IIRC her parents actually moved out of California a couple of years ago. I think she's managed by lawyers or some type of court appointed team.

Her mental illness doesn't have anything to do with the casting couch, narcissism, drugs, or any other pitfall of Hollywood/fame. She's schizophrenic. She would have ended up schizophrenic regardless of whether or not she ever stepped foot in Hollywood.

As for Britney, she lost her virginity at 14 to her hometown boyfriend who was 21 (I believe) and was extremely promiscuous from the get-go. The entire concept, dance and outfit of "Baby...One More Time" was solely her idea (the articles about this are out there) and she was completely the spearhead of the whole "jailbait" ideology, and capitalized on that image and reputation (literally and figuratively). She's always been highly sexual and still is to this day. It's a hallmark of her mental illness(es).

Or, at the very least, they have bipolar disorder and don't stick to any treatment plan for very long. But I think schizophrenia is more likely. Amanda actually looks pretty good at r76, all things considered. It's a very good sign that she's being social and seems to be enjoying herself (or showing great acting chops). I can't tell you how positive that is for someone with her diagnosis. Isolation can be a killer and contributes to decompensation. Isolation, going off meds, and drug and/or alcohol abuse are big risk factors. Stress also.

About Amanda's parents, I haven't read anything about them robbing her. I do recall early on that they were very much in denial about the schizophrenia, which no doubt contributed to Amanda's difficulty with accepting the diagnosis. I can't remember what they attributed her problems to, but it sounded like they thought she'd recover.

This is correct. Her father was a dentist (mom worked in his office) and did well. He also had other investments and they did not need to or live off their daughter. She had a house in Thousand Oaks or thereabouts which she rents out, hence some of her income.

They didn't. She wanted the conservatorship ended when her health improved in 2022 and her parents fully supported ending it since she was medicated.

The price of her being stable and able to live her own life is basically what we're seeing now: weight gain, and a near complete change in personality. None of it is her fault.

She doesn't bother anyone, she doesn't act, she posts videos like any normal person on her personal social media, (she's not dancing with knives or spinning in circles in her panties) and I think she should be left alone.
