Happy Birthday Concetta Rosalie Ann Ingoglia
aka Connie Stevens...87!
Stevens was born Concetta Rosalie Ann Ingoglia in Brooklyn, New York, United States, the daughter of musician Peter Ingoglia (known as Teddy Stevens) and singer Eleanor McGinley. Stevens is of Italian and Irish descent. She adopted her father's stage name of Stevens as her own. Her parents divorced and she lived with her grandparents and attended Catholic boarding schools. Actor John Megna was her maternal half-brother.
She turned down the Valerie Perrine role in Lenny because of its nudity.

She was married twice during her twenties. Her first husband, from 1963 until their 1966 divorce, was actor James Stacy. Her second husband, from 1967 until they divorced in 1969, was singer Eddie Fisher. She is the mother of actresses Joely Fisher and Tricia Leigh Fisher, and the former stepmother of Todd Fisher and actress Carrie Fisher.

She never rose above starlet/Vegas level. It's too bad because she was very talented but wasn't *special*. If you watch her performing standards on Hawaiian Eye, she really sells them but her sound is lightweight and not particularly distinctive. Her acting is sincere but there wasn't much depth to most of her roles. Lenny could have been her Carnal Knowledge.

I loved Hawaiian Eye! First, of course, for Robert Conrad but Connie was adorable.

Got to meet her in 1982, worked in the theater where she was appearing in I'm Getting My Act Together & Taking It On The Road - I was 16 going on 17 and thought she was fabulous and so very very nice. I mentioned that I saw her do Shake It Up Tonight (the Cheryl Lynn song) on The Tonight Show and she said I was a 'true fan'. Still, very very nice and approachable and professional.

Too bad she couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. She couldn’t sort of sing. Came from a low level show business family. Was a real infomercial queen in the 90s. Not a whole lot you can say about her.

She was good in a made for TV movie from the 70s where she was playing Marilyn Monroe (renamed Madeleine).

That was after I turned it down.

Gosh…. She’s almost as good at gasping “Daddy… DADDY??” as Suzanne Somers in that Broadway mess she did.

Some of the Warner starlets like Suzanne and Stefanie were able to get some solid TV income later on.

R10: This queen has entertaining review calling it deranged, among other things. He refers to Connie as a kitsch sex kitten. The publicity pics are hilarious—she looks like a drugged centerfold from a cheap imitation of Playboy. The cast includes Shelley Winters, who knew the real Marilyn, and was already into her wacky, beyond zaftig period.

And don’t forget Scorchy, the blaxploitation film about a white woman.

Yeah, r15, her Cricket Blake talents weren't enough to parlay a film career and her chance at Broadway was undermined by the material.

I remember her from that movie with Jerry Lewis.
Also her "Domani" song they played on old people's radio stations

Perfectly respectable, but like Debbie Reynolds, she didn't have a signature sound.

She was determined to play Honey in WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF and/or Eliza in MY FAIR LADY when her home studio was prepping them.
I don’t know which she would have been worse in.

Sandy Dennis was fine, though she seemed to give the same performance in almost all her movies. I was just saying Connie might have been very good also.
Some people don't seem to be able to look beyond public personas. She may have just needed one great part to show her stuff.

She wouldn't show her stuff that's why she wouldn't do LENNY.

I still have fond childhood memories of seeing Connie perform at Six Flag Magic Mountain some time in the '70s. I didn't know who she was, but this young gayling was delighted by her fun, light-hearted banter and spirit. And with her sparkly gowns and feather boas I thought she was so glamorous.
Months later, I saw Connie on either Love Boat or Fantasy Island, and I shrieked like a fangirl, "Connie Stevens is on TV!"

"Sixteen Reasons" was used effectively by David Lynch in "Muhlolland Drive". I've always liked Connie's voice a lot—very pleasant on the ears.

It really doesn't go beyond *pleasant* though. Those shows usually had a singing blonde, Cricket Blake and Sunny Day (Tina Cole) on Hawaiian Eye, Pinky (Dorothy Provine) on The Roaring 20's and the winner (in my book) - Miss Lola Albright as Edie Hart on Peter Gunn.

R25: She would have been awful as Honey. I can’t picture her “dancing like the wind” or hearing George mail her hysterical pregnancy.

Anyone else remember Palm Springs Weekend? (Oops, dating myself.) It used to be shown on TV, in the days when networks would have a movie night. I don’t remember a thing about it except for the Jack Weston character saying ‘You spitfire’ to a woman he had the hots for. It was a running gag.

R38 Connie's father was Italian, but her mother was of Irish descent. She clearly looks much more Irish than she does Italian.

R35 Not necessarily. Mike Nichols' greatest talent as a director might have been his incredible direction of actors. Especially, those considered miscast.
Nobody expected he could pull what he pulled out of Elizabeth Taylor. Think of Ann-Margret in Carnal knowledge.
Stevens might have gotten Oscar-nominated along with everyone else, and it would have completely changed the trajectory of her career.
What I find hard to believe, was whoever's claim she was actually in serious contention.

Taylor was a far better actor than Stevens.
