I read somewhere that that happened for some formality reason. At some point studios had to have documents available that confirmed the actor's adult age at time of filming. Those age requirements were always there, but they may have gotten stricter with time in terms of suitable documentation, e.g. image of driver ID instead of just a signed attestation. And the studio didn't meet those new requirements for the old recordings.
