Eve Plumb has a new memoir

Oh, now she embraces the show now that she needs the money.

by Anonymousreply 6August 9, 2025 7:10 AM

Eve Plumb has plenty of money and she is kind of a class act.

by Anonymousreply 7August 9, 2025 7:13 AM

Does she discuss her co-star in Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway — and the far more successful sequel, Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn — Leigh McCloskey?

Did they bang?

Was she jealous that he was Juilliard-trained when she was just an LA kid whose parents got her into commercials?

She shouldn’t be hurting for money. Found this on her Wikipedia page:

In 2016, she sold the Malibu home that she had purchased at the age of 11 in 1969. She bought the 1950s beach bungalow for $55,000 and sold it for $3.9 million.

by Anonymousreply 9August 9, 2025 8:12 AM

Has Cousin Oliver commented yet?

by Anonymousreply 10August 9, 2025 8:16 AM

Bitch should've kept that Malibu shack. She's already blown through the proceeds, and assisted care ain't cheap.

by Anonymousreply 11August 9, 2025 8:16 AM

I doubt she will dish any real dirt but I hope Susan Olsen catches some strays. She let it slip in an interview that Eve refuses to talk to her after she sabotaged a proposed "Brady" reboot with her MAGA conspiracy bs.

And we all know Eve is a messy b*tch who can hold a grudge!

by Anonymousreply 12August 9, 2025 8:33 AM

Remember when she went on Sally Jessy and threw a fit about the audience asking her about The Brady Bunch? The show’s topic was former child stars.

by Anonymousreply 13August 9, 2025 2:24 PM

The irony is she’s participated in MANY BB reunions, except the variety hour, which she was smart as hell to avoid. I don’t care what her wiki page says, and that she has plenty of money from selling her house. MORE money always talks.

by Anonymousreply 14August 9, 2025 2:35 PM

Blair’s former stepsister is coming out with a book?

by Anonymousreply 17August 9, 2025 5:43 PM

She’s pretty well off. Her parents invested her money well and she was one of the few child stars of that era who didn’t have parents who depended on their kid as their main/only source of income. Her dad was a very successful record executive.

Mindy Cohn is a bit of a weirdo. I don’t know if she’s on the spectrum or what but she has personal space issues and picking up on social cues.

by Anonymousreply 21August 9, 2025 6:42 PM

A few years ago, Eve & her husband launched PlumbGoods, a home collection with Eve's retro designs. Mugs, water bottles, totes, aprons, etc. There's also line of fresh-roasted coffees called Happiness Included -- 50% of the profits from the coffee line are donated to the NYC ASPCA.

I would love if Eve had titled her memoir “Still Not Bitter, Dammit!”

There's a clip from Andy Cohen's talk show where he's interviewing the cast and Eve claims she's never seen the Brady Bunch movies. I'm sure the internet would have exploded if Maureen, sitting next to her would have dropped a perfectly timed, Sure Jan.

by Anonymousreply 27August 10, 2025 1:47 AM

Sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 28August 10, 2025 1:52 AM

She's been a miserable and humorless on every talk show she's ever been on. Refuses to engage with any Brady anecdotes or trivia. Yet the only reason she is even invited on these talk shows is to share Brady anecdotes. She's been a tiny bit better since the Brady house renovation show but not much, still dour.

If she's asked about any behind the scenes shenanigans or bloopers, she says she doesn't remember.

If she's asked about her favorite episode she says she doesn't have one, if she's pushed she reluctantly says either Hawaii or Grand Canyon.

by Anonymousreply 38August 10, 2025 5:08 AM

[quote] People like the show, but just fans of Eve Plumb, by herself?

Oddly enough, the writers of the show loved her, which is why she was given so many showcase episodes where basically Jan freaked out (over having a dull personality and needing a wig, over being in Marcia's shadow, over looking like Aunt Jenny, etc.). the writers were convinced she was the best child actor on the show and gave her more "dramatic" episodes than they did for the other children.

She also got much better work than the other kids did when the show ended--whe was cast in more TV movies than any of the other kids were. but then it dried up when she grew up to be a somewhat dowdy adult.

by Anonymousreply 39August 10, 2025 5:19 AM

She looks like an Eilbacher.

Well, she’s by far the best actor out of all the kids. I think everyone recognizes that, at least.

by Anonymousreply 44August 10, 2025 7:43 AM

If "by far the best actor out of all the kids," you mean the most castable as a teenage whore, you are correct.

Unfortunately, her career kind of level-set with the others after 1978.

by Anonymousreply 45August 10, 2025 7:49 AM

[Quote] Well, she’s by far the best actor out of all the kids.

by Anonymousreply 47August 10, 2025 4:26 PM

Ouch, r47. Plumb is only 8 years older than Nixon

by Anonymousreply 48August 10, 2025 4:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 51August 10, 2025 6:25 PM

Jan was giving Marcia a run for her money in the looks department by the end of the series.

The funny thing is by giving Plumb more dramatic episodes, Jan became such a Gen X idol.

Her most bizarre appearance had to be on an episode of One Day at a Time that she did around the time of her guest star appearance on Facts of Life. She plays Howard Hesseman's date the first time he shows up and meets Barbara and Ann Romano.

She's in the show all of two minutes and has one or two lines. I was stunned at the end when I found out it was her and wondered why she would accept such a nothing role, unless she needed the money. But they couldn't writer her something a little more substantial?

Shit, even Susan Richardson got a couple of episodes on One Day playing a friend of Barbara and Mark's.

by Anonymousreply 55August 10, 2025 7:34 PM

R55 I think around this time she was still trying to make a career as an actress, and taking what she could get. This was around the time after the Brady Brides series. She’s admitted that they threw a lot of money at her to do Brady Brides and that’s the only reason she did it.

by Anonymousreply 56August 10, 2025 11:14 PM

One Day At A Time was considered prestige TV so even a nothing part was worth taking if it might get you into Norman Lear’s orbit. Clearly it didn’t work for her but I can understand why she did it

by Anonymousreply 57August 10, 2025 11:43 PM

It's the NEW Jan Brady!

by Anonymousreply 58August 11, 2025 12:04 AM

Sounds like she's still making the best of it. You can count on one hand the number of people who have transitioned from successful child actor to successful adult actor.

by Anonymousreply 59August 11, 2025 12:15 AM

Last thing I saw her in was a Law & Order episode.

by Anonymousreply 60August 11, 2025 12:19 AM

They could have also cut down the part from read-through to tape on that ODAAT episode. I recall reading the actress who played Big Daddy's younger bride on The Golden Girls saying in an interview that her part was cut significantly from the initial script she had at the beginning of the week.

Eve appeared on a very early episode of That '70 Show, as Jackie's realtor mother. It was essentially a cameo (just a couple lines), but her delivery was funny. "And this tiled walkway leads to the swimming pool...which is occupied by some of the local teenagers....heavily Caucasian...it's a good neighborhood!"

by Anonymousreply 68August 11, 2025 1:38 AM

Here she is on Rosie O'Donnell Show acting excited when discussing anything other than TBB.

Eve was close to getting the lead in Prom Night, but the producers went with Jamie Lee Curtis once she expressed interest. It would have been interesting to see Eve in a project like that. She was never going to be Meryl Streep, but that could have given her a ticket into the early-’80s horror boom instead of remaining tethered to the Brady Bunch nostalgia circuit.

It's ironic that her memoir is titled "Happiness Included" when she always seemed the most reluctant cast member to want to be associated with the The Brady Bunch.

I mean, I can't blame her when you keep having to live your life through the lens of a truly stupid, hollow and ridiculous show from 50 years ago. But I guess at some point especially as you age, you either completely remove yourself from the entire situation or somewhat embrace it and welcome the attention. Because in the end, money is money, and we all need it. It's not like she had to dig ditches to make a buck. Life could have been worse.

by Anonymousreply 117August 13, 2025 8:20 AM

Why should she run away from the Brady Bunch now? The show gets more forgotten every year and we are now near the point when the "kids" are going to be dropping off one by one.

To be serious for a moment, I can really respect Susan Dey's behavior. She doesn't want to be a part of the whole nostalgia thing, so she stays home and stays quiet. No talk shows. No memoirs. She doesn't tease with an appearance and then refuse to talk about The Partridge Family. Whether you like that stance or not, she has, in the most Datalounge way, stated her boundaries and stuck to them. And power to her!

by Anonymousreply 130August 14, 2025 8:01 PM

Well, Susan Dey went on to do major motion pictures and a whole other hit series. People don’t as relentlessly tie her to one role.

I would also point out that her show wasn’t quite as universally beloved as THE BRADY BUNCH, nor was her character Laurie as central as Jan.

by Anonymousreply 131August 14, 2025 10:18 PM

What major motion pictures was Dey in?

She showed more range in Echo Park than I ever expected from her. I can easily see her getting LA Law after she was in Echo Park.

by Anonymousreply 138August 15, 2025 9:39 PM

Looker was on cable a lot in the early 80s. Great cast with Albert Finney, James Coburn and of course dl fav Susan. Worth a watch.

by Anonymousreply 139August 15, 2025 9:46 PM

I recall back in the '80s, one of Late Night with David Letterman's top ten lists about failed Jeopardy categories included From Looker to Echo Park, the films which Susan Dey appeared naked.

by Anonymousreply 144August 16, 2025 3:43 AM

Well, there aren't anymore, R144. That was nine years ago. And everything else burned down this past January.

I work in book publishing.

Kensington Publishing while a respectable book publisher, is not one of the major houses. I'd suspect that she sold her memoir there after the other major publishers passed. The truth is that these type of memoirs don't sell as amazingly as DL denizens would believe.

If this is a cash grab (which I don't believe it is given her history of modest living and continuous employment), it would be a very minor one at that. I'd guess she'll make tens of thousands of dollars not hundreds.

If she was desperately in search of cash she'd make comparable money quickly on the autograph convention circuit which she has to my knowledge completely avoided.

by Anonymousreply 146August 16, 2025 2:16 PM

She doesn't seem the type to go through money fast. If she sold her Malibu house for millions years ago, she probably still has most of it.

by Anonymousreply 147August 16, 2025 6:41 PM

R146 I think she’s realizing that she is pushing 70 and wants to get her story out.

[quote}Oh, now she embraces the show

What does that even mean? She stepped away from one farkakte variety show that was widely panned and has been mocked evermore and from that you surmise that she's some sort of monumental hypocrite because she DARES to express an opinion that doesn't fit your narrative?

by Anonymousreply 162August 17, 2025 12:06 AM

I don't agree with the Eve Plumb hate on here. She was the ONLY professional on the cast - performing since she was a little girl with both parents in show business. She's had other amazing roles after BB..and was too busy to do the reunion which people interpreted that she wasn't interested - she's a popular artist and has sold many pieces - her husband and her also have an extremely successful business for flipping condos......she always was above and beyond the rest of the cast working steadily and successfully. She's a cut above the rest - yet people think she's the desperate one - she isn't at all.

by Anonymousreply 163August 17, 2025 1:15 AM

Hi, Eve at r163!

by Anonymousreply 164August 17, 2025 1:18 AM

All the Brady girls skipped one revival. Eve skipped the Brady Bunch Hour, Susan skipped The Christmas movie and Maureen skipped The Bradys, so this idea that Eve is somehow less a willing participant in Brady fandom is silly.

Maureen's book was bonkers and IF she embellished or exaggerated a same sex affair between her and Eve to sell books then I could understand why Eve would be upset. It's not homophobic, it's lying.

Susan is a drunk. I saw her at a con and she could barely focus and it took her great effort to stand and pose for photos. She has that pickled look that old drunks get. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if she's the first to croak.

by Anonymousreply 165August 17, 2025 3:27 AM

[quote]Susan is a drunk.

Oh yeah she is. I was a producer on a morning radio show back in the early 2000s and we got her to agree to do a couple of hours as a stunt DJ. We told her to show up to be on the air around 8:30. She was supposed to show up about a half hour before so she could get settled and she did but she was already so fucking drunk she was incoherent. Her then boyfriend/manager was really apologetic but we were pissed and told him it would have been better if she'd just cancelled. She slept on the sofa in our break room for about an hour until the BF could rouse her and drag her out. Yeah we took pictures.

by Anonymousreply 166August 17, 2025 4:15 AM

Susan skipped A Very Brady Christmas because she was on her honeymoon when they filmed it.

by Anonymousreply 167August 17, 2025 5:38 AM

Why can’t any of them let go? I have second hand embarrassment for them all.

by Anonymousreply 168August 17, 2025 6:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 169August 17, 2025 7:03 AM

That's one story. Another is she was going to be paid significantly less than some of the other kids and told them no thanks.

by Anonymousreply 171August 17, 2025 8:00 AM

Florence was THE professional on that set. R163 get over yourself. She starred on Broadway in the long-running 1954 musical, Fanny. Long before Brady Bunch.

by Anonymousreply 172August 17, 2025 9:26 AM

She aged poorly

by Anonymousreply 173August 17, 2025 11:48 AM

R172 Florence should have quit Hollywood after The Brady Bunch and gone back to Broadway. Her awful acting was painfully obvious, especially in her endless, cringe-worthy TV guest spots.

by Anonymousreply 174August 17, 2025 12:10 PM

R170 From what I've heard Eve has kept her distance from Susan because of her right-wing politics, racism and homophobia.

by Anonymousreply 175August 17, 2025 12:13 PM

R174 I think she decided post BB to cash in on the Mrs. Brady persona, which in the long run probably paid more than Broadway gigs.

by Anonymousreply 176August 17, 2025 12:20 PM

[quote] She's had other amazing roles after BB

Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway really put her on the map.

by Anonymousreply 177August 17, 2025 12:36 PM

I’ll give Eve this much - at least she keeps her hair short and age-appropriate, unlike Geri Reischl still clinging to her long, lifeless "fake jan" locks or Susan Olsen hiding under that pathetic, outdated wig.

by Anonymousreply 178August 17, 2025 12:42 PM

Producers got lucky with Susan slipping Very Brady Christmas. Jennifer Runyon looks like we would expect a grownup Cindy to look much more than Susan does. And she was a good actor.

by Anonymousreply 179August 17, 2025 12:57 PM

Eve Plumb and Christopher Knight never had kids.

by Anonymousreply 182August 17, 2025 3:32 PM

R174, why would she go back to Broadway? The pay stinks, the workload is enormous and doing the same show 8 times a week for a year isn't nearly as artistically stimulating as it's made out to be. She could play two weeks in Vegas, make more than she could from 6 months on Broadway and still make it back to Beverly Hills to see her garden grow.

[quote]Joyce Bulifant says she was "signed, sealed and delivered" to play Carol before the show brought in Florence as a last minute replacement.

Lloyd Schwartz guested on Barry & Chris' podcast a few years ago and confirmed all of that, down to Joyce beginning wardrobe fittings when the change was made.

Interestingly, the switch from Joyce to Florence also precipitated a change in Alices. Sherwood thought Joyce was quite funny, a natural comedic actress (which Florence was not). With Joyce in mind, he'd cast an actress named Monty Margetts to play Alice -- who, while funny, would have been a straighter, sterner version of Alice (I can't remember exactly how Lloyd put it). But once the change was made to Florence, Sherwood felt they needed a much funnier Alice, someone who could really deliver a laugh every time. Enter Ann B. Davis.
