The Prime Suspect series with Helen Mirren

I rarely watched it when it came out in my young teens but I have the full series lined up on my DVR.

But my mother watched them religiously and my dad would annoy her and heckle the feminist POV. I remember him bring a total dick when Jane Tennison fucked a hot, young, black cop played by Colin Salmon.

The first series features a sensitive young Ralph Fiennes as a victim’s boyfriend. His eyes are beautiful. And I actually remember Tom Wilkinson as Jane’s season 1 partner and Jane smushing chocolate cake on her blouse before meeting his young son.

Helen Mirren is amazing. But Tom Bell is leaving nothing behind as a truly despicable fellow cop and antagonist as institutionalised sexism made human.

I haven't watched them since they aired. Do they hold up? Well... I know the final season that was themed around the Bosnian War doesn't hold up because it was a misfire from the start.

The most memorable character in the series was David Thewlis's repellent "pee-do-phile" (as the Brits pronounce it). Series 3.

PS holds up, despite creating so many things other cop shows repeated to death in subsequent years.

IIRC in the final series Tom Bell makes an appearance, he was nearly dead of cancer at that point. I think his character apologized to her character.

It’s excruciating having to watch what Jane experienced in S1. It reminds me of high school.
