‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ turns 50

[quote]To mark the milestone, a restored 4K version of the film will hit theaters (and Blu-ray), actors will reunite for panels and new merchandise will hit shelves from Funko, Loungefly, RockLove Jewelry and more.

[quote]The Walt Disney Studios Restoration team shepherded the restoration over 10 months, a process that has produced a newly mixed Dolby Atmos audio track to bring depth and dimension to the film’s notable soundtrack. The original mono audio has also been fully restored.

Will Bostwick be wearing Brad's tighty whities?

They used to be on display at the bygone Tiffany Theatre in West Hollywood where they had Midnight and 2AM screenings of Rocky Horror on Friday and Saturday nights for years. I guess Bostwick presented them to the theatre on the fourth anniversary of these shows.

You’ve come a long way from “The Apple Dumpling Gang,” Disney!

It is a cult favorite. Also it is not a very good film.

Can Tim Curry speak? I am happy he’s alive but wondering about his quality of life.

Let's do the Time Warp still.

R5 Tim can speak but it takes more effort and he doesn't sound the same as before the stroke. He does occasional voice work and did the audiobook narration for his memoir, which will be released Oct 14.

Overall, Tim is doing well, due to therapy and professional caregivers. He says he's always had a positive outlook, and I think he's happy and thankful to be alive.

He's done a lot of fan convention meet and greets, as well as online video chats with fans, in recent years, to stay busy and earn money. As tedious as that can be, it must be uplifting for him to hear so many fans tell him how much he and his work are loved and appreciated.

Tim was interviewed by CBS Sunday Morning for their recent RHPS special. You can watch and listen to him early on in the 9-minute video linked below.

r3 sat through Nolan's "Oppenheimer" three times in a row with an erection.

Aaah, the one time I could stand watching Susan Sarandon.

by Anonymousreply 11September 28, 2025 2:07 PM

Where's Richard O Brien and Susan Sarandon?

Richard I'm surprised because it's his baby. He usually shows up. Susan less so. She seems to go through periods of embracing it, then distancing herself from it.

The AMPAS showing is a big deal though.

It's so funny he originally was thinking of playing Frank N. Furter with a stereotypical German scientist's accent, but then just playing around he settled on the British Royal Family's accent, and that was it.

She was probably working. She's even doing conventions now. As for Richard, he used to to very early conventions bur years ago I asked Nell and Patricia Quin why he doesn't do them and they said he was very pissed how 20th Century Fox treated him money wise and I said all the more reason to to the shows.

I went to the screening at the Academy Museum on Friday, which featured a live, pre-show talk with Tim Curry. Even with his physical limitations, he is quite interesting, witty, and charming. It was so moving to see him experience the outpouring of love from the audience. Although they didn't speak, producer Lou Adler, Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, and Nell Campbell were also in attendance. Some slight shade about Sarandon from Tim made me think that she is probably not missed at these reunions.

The 4K restoration looks good, but I really can't say much about the sound as the actual screening was an audible mess. Whereas, in the good ol' days, the audience shout-outs were pretty consistent, now it seems like every other person is screaming out something different. There were several very loud people sitting behind, in front of, and off to the side of me and they rarely were in sync or agreement. (I heard a few talking after the show and it seems that they go repeatedly to screenings and try shouting different things, hoping for attention and cult cred.) As a result of all this competing shouting, there were whole sections of the film where the dialogue was completely drowned out.

Audience participation is what turned RHPS into a cult classic; it's unfortunate that it is now making it unintelligible.

I saw Rocky Horror at the Roxy on Sunset long before the movie was made. If my memory serves me well, Tim played his iconic role on stage. It was fun.

by Anonymousreply 16September 28, 2025 5:26 PM

Love the RHPS first 2/3, but let's admit it, the last 3rd is tedious.

[quote]She was probably working. She's even doing conventions now

The work has dried up for her. She did some movie with Brenda Vaccaro that went to Tubi last year.

The one convention she did with Geena Davis, she supposedly wouldn't stand near any fans (because of COVID concerns) yet Geena was warm and I think even hugged people. They wound up putting a box next to Susan for those who wanted photo ops so no one would stand close to her.

This is still my favourite Halloween movie. For some reason my mom showed this to me when I was 9. I’ve always loved it
