What newspaper (or online new site) is your go to? Why?
What is Your Newspaper of Choice?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 9, 2025 7:25 AM |
I used to read Slate daily, but every article is paywalled now.

I only read my local newspapers. The Atlanta Journal & The Savannah Morning News. I get enough of the national news from those papers to suit me.

Pretty narrow range of choices in that poll. Like asking Where do you shop? but all the choices are at the mall.

Don’t care about all the online ridiculous hate. The NYT is still the paper of record. They haven’t lost a blip to me.

I'm a WSJ guy myself

The Guardian is the only major online news outlet that’s worth following. It should have been included in the list. The others are a bunch of compromised, fascist-enabling lickspittles, though they do occasionally publish articles that aren’t “adjusted” too obviously in order to soften the horrific news that’s created daily by King Dump and his MAGA minions,
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 8, 2025 3:39 AM |
I subscribe to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Both are well worth the money.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 8, 2025 3:42 AM |
R7 You are right, I forgot the Guardian! My apologies.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 8, 2025 4:05 AM |
I read the times since the late 70s and subbed to the digital times since they paywalled, which I think was about 15 years ago.
But I was so disgusted by their coverage of the assault on Gaza, and the 2024 election, I cut it loose a few months ago. I don’t really miss it. I read The Hill and Politico, the BBC and guardian, and local papers when something happens in the USA.
I also sub to the New Yorker and the Atlantic, which websites often have daily coverage, and New York Magazine.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 8, 2025 4:11 AM |
Forgot to mention I also read Foreign Policy for my job.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 8, 2025 4:13 AM |
I just want something nonbias....

Actually I wish OP would have included Fox so we could see how many Fox viewers are at DL, if they're not too embarrassed to admit it.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 8, 2025 4:27 AM |
I used to be a fervent NYT devotee. Key phrase: "used to be".
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 8, 2025 7:11 AM |
I prefer the BBC.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 8, 2025 7:45 AM |
The Guardian, BBC, English versions of Deutsche Welle and France 24
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 8, 2025 11:02 AM |
Boston Globe, Washington Post, NYTimes. I get updates from the Chicago Sun-Times.
I also read The Atlantic, The Nation, The New Republic -- but not every story.

Should be what’s your news source as most of these are not newspapers.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 8, 2025 11:10 AM |
The Guardian.

NPR is a newspaper?

You might as well say The Globe.

The Guardian has been a joke for over a century. Even the Russian government infiltrated it. It’s Glenn Greenwald’s newspaper for Christ’s sake.
…
In 1994, KGB defector Oleg Gordievsky identified Guardian literary editor Richard Gott as "an agent of influence". While Gott denied that he received cash, he admitted he had had lunch at the Soviet Embassy and had taken benefits from the KGB on overseas visits. Gott resigned from his post.
Gordievsky commented on the newspaper: "The KGB loved The Guardian. It was deemed highly susceptible to penetration."

The Philadelphia Inquirer. It is now owned by a non-profit foundation and does not have any neo-fascist stockholders or Nazi hedge fund managers to please.
It no longer has to kiss MAGAt/GOP ass, so it doesn't do any WaPo or NYT "both sides" bullshit.

I can't quit the NY Times for so-called hard news reporting. I'm a decades-long subscriber both print and digital.
I also note that it seems like A.G. Sulzberger doesn't take shit from Trump, unlike Bezos and whoever owns the LA Times.
Still, the NY Times Lifestyle section HAS to be in-joke self-parody. I can think of no other explanation for the tone of its coverage of the wealthy.

Another vote for The Guardian
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 8, 2025 1:07 PM |
+1 for Deutsche Welle

I'm a former journalist, and I've always had a fondness for The Associated Press, since I spent so much time reading its stories when I had that job.

You should check out the Wall Street Journal's Mansions section.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 8, 2025 4:22 PM |
r29, I'm sure I would enjoy that section.
But as much as I'm enjoying the current rumble between Murdoch and Trump, I can't bring myself to perform the act of directly handing money to anything Murdoch owns.

My four main sources (alphabetically), but many others via news feed links on subjects of interest.
BBC
El Pais
Guardian
New York Times

And I give them money,

As a corporate lawyer, the WSJ. It actually has good coverage, is accurate, and is not scared of Trump. Their editorials are surprisingly anti-MAGA. The majority of their columnists are traditional Republicans.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 9, 2025 2:41 AM |
To know what's going on, you unfortunately have to read a mix of sources. To be aware of and know the details of stories that are negative for Republicans, read some sources on the left. To be aware of and know the details of things that are negative for Democrats, read some sources on the right. You have to do both to get the full picture.

Along those lines, I get news from here, X trending topics, and news.google.com. On X, you can see what's breaking and/or the big stories, like an earthquake happening or the stock market tanking. A lot of that is sports topics, which I don't care about, but still.
