Now that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has announced it is shutting down, has your local channel 9 announced if it is shutting down or limiting broadcast hours?
Channel 9?
Channel 9 in my city is doing fine. Has local news almost all day long with a few breaks for syndicated talk shows or judge shows.
My channel 9 runs commercials every few minutes. It has nothing to do with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Never has.

We’re great, we don’t pushed around by fascists with spray tans.

Yes, we're reporting the news as always. Getting our funding from advertisers. Always have.

At New York Public Radio, they'll survive if WNYC morning host, Brian Lehrer, gives up some of his $400,000 salary.

Channel 9 in San Francisco is KQED, the local PBS station (there are two more in the Bay Area). It should be fine; it's the non-urban public stations that may fold.

I don’t think the East coast has a “Channel 9”.

WSOC Channel 9 in Charlotte NC is an ABC affiliate. Seems to be doing just fine.

Channel 9 in Los Angeles is KCAL-TV, which is owned by CBS and merged with KCBS-TV. I don't think they broadcast PBS programming.

OP believes that since his local PBS station is on channel 9, they must all be on channel 9.
Sesame Street and other learning programs never helped OP.

OP, where are you getting this idea about Channel 9?
Just because PBS airs on Channel 9 in your area is no reason to assume PBS airs on Channel 9 throughout the country, as many of the posts so far have indicated.
Many CBS stations air on Channel 2. But not all CBS stations throughout the country air on channel 2.
Many ABC stations air on Channel 7, but not all ABC stations nationwide air on channel 7.
The same hold true with PBS. Where I grew up, the PBS station aired on Channel 42. And in an adjacent market, PBS was on Channel 58.

I gave up on cable in the early 2000s so I haven't had access to my local PBS station since the digital changeover.

Fuck rural America. They are the asshole's deepest base of support, and they bring this on themselves.
They want to end socialism? Let's start with taking away Sesame Street for their kids. PBS is overwhelmingly funded by big-city liberal homos, and if bumpkins don't want our money, they can do without.

Channel 9 in NYC used to be a local channel that showed assorted syndicated shows back in the 90's/early 2000's. Daytime was endless court shows and talk show like Ricki Lake, then crap like Moesha and Martin during primetime. 10PM was local news.
Now it is basically the same - it would be considered an "over the air" station. A normal night lineup is old Dateline and Family Feud reruns.
