Were they actually gay, like Duran Duran or The Pet Shop Boys, or just kinda-sorta gay, like The Pointer Sisters?
eldergay: i never thought they were even slightly gay.

Duran Duran were gay?

They're not remotely gay. OP is trolling obviously. No one in Duran Duran is gay either, despite contemporary rumors and wishful thinking. I have no idea what the Pointer Sister have to do with being gay other than having some gay fans. They were widely popular but not really associated with gay culture other than some dance hits being played at gay bars along with other dance hits of the day. I've never heard them called "gay icons."

Wow, OP, you really love starting new threads! How many have you started today? 10? 20?

Wow, 10th grade level humor. What's next, a "your mom" joke?
The trolls here are such idiots these days.

Good fun music if you’re into 80’s style reggae and ska influenced music. Maybe more Commonwealth and Eurocentric for Americans.

They were definitely not gay OP. They are responsible for the much loved Australian anthem - "Down under".

Men At Work were basically a solid, road-tested bar band that got wildly lucky when “Down Under” (a near novelty song) became a huge international hit single and MTV catapulted them into the stratosphere (see: Hootie And The Blowfish for a similar case). They had catchy, fairly simple pop-rock songs with good melodies that went down easy, and a super-distinctive and charismatic frontman with a cool voice in Colin Hay. They released two huge hit albums and many hit singles in the span of a few years, then two guys quit, and the remaining trio released a third album, but it flopped and they split up. Colin Hay though has remained a fairly prolific and well-regarded singer/songwriter, releasing a bunch of modestly-selling albums over the years on various labels. I have a few of them and they’re pretty damn good.

Loved Men at Work….saw them live back in the 80s and they were fantastic. Ahhh……those memories are still with me and they bring me back to my 20-something young self. Life was exciting and anything seemed possible. Colin Hay had such a mesmerizing voice. I remember nearly levitating out of my seat, the performance was so…..otherworldly. Amazing. God, I’d love to experience that again!

Men at Work couldn't be less gay if they tried. Great band for the times. Very beloved in Aussie.

Who Can It Be Now? was a #1 hit before Down Under.
