by Anonymousreply 2August 6, 2025 7:07 PM

Not to pile on, OP, but farm-to-table has been a popular restaurant hook since the aughts.

by Anonymousreply 19August 6, 2025 10:21 PM

"Hack." As in "Here's a new hack for cleaning your kitchen faucet," or whatever. Where did this come from??

by Anonymousreply 20August 7, 2025 1:01 AM

"Self deletion" instead of suicide.

by Anonymousreply 21August 7, 2025 1:02 AM

R16 Tradwifery is not the same as housewifery. The former implies dedicating oneself to "traditional" homemaking practices and skills--cooking all food from scratch, cleaning with as little modern technology and chemicals as possible, growing, harvesting, processing, and preserving as much food as possible by hand, home-birthing and schooling all the children, etc.

It's basically a way to send women back to the days of tedious, back-breaking domestic slavery so as to temper the hysteria, and convincing them on social media that there's nothing more to it than a bit of cosplaying Little House on the Prairie.

by Anonymousreply 22August 7, 2025 1:04 AM

"Crafted"

by Anonymousreply 23August 7, 2025 1:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 27August 7, 2025 1:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 28August 7, 2025 1:24 AM

R11- So what.

I don't like the word Artisinal either and Fair Trade sounds suspicious to me like Free Trade.

by Anonymousreply 29August 7, 2025 1:28 AM

I used to hate "food desert" until I lived in one, briefly.

by Anonymousreply 30August 7, 2025 1:28 AM

Jane Fonda is no longer an actress.

She's an ACTOR

by Anonymousreply 31August 7, 2025 1:29 AM

Use Case from upthread is the stupidest fucking made-up term I've heard in a long time.

It's also just awkward as hell to say.

by Anonymousreply 32August 7, 2025 1:56 AM

For years I've hated any meme that starts with "Absolutely nobody: "

I don't know why it bugs me so much, but it does.

by Anonymousreply 33August 7, 2025 1:59 AM

"Unalived" was started because "suicide" and "murder" gets you demonitized on youtube. Crime tubers came up with it.

by Anonymousreply 34August 7, 2025 2:02 AM

Uncoupled

by Anonymousreply 35August 7, 2025 2:03 AM

Anyways.

by Anonymousreply 36August 7, 2025 2:11 AM

Cis

"My pronouns are" - sorry, but this isn't your decision and it's not optional with variables.

by Anonymousreply 37August 7, 2025 2:14 AM

"Global South"

Was anyone actually offended by the term "developing country?" It doesn't even make sense given Australia and New Zealand.

by Anonymousreply 38August 7, 2025 2:17 AM

Developing Country was once the old euphemism for Third World Country

by Anonymousreply 39August 7, 2025 2:20 AM

Are people still getting their labia all foamy over the trans? I thought Project 2025 had soothed all those terrors.

by Anonymousreply 40August 7, 2025 2:22 AM

Really tired of the use of "masterclass" to define even the most mundane display of skill or talent. For example: "Melania Trump farting at the state dinner last night was a masterclass in farting." And while I'm at it, "be like" is another phrase that has outlived its use.

by Anonymousreply 41August 7, 2025 2:28 AM

A series of concerts described as a “residency.”

by Anonymousreply 42August 7, 2025 3:13 AM

I think “developing” can only be used for so long before it becomes a lie.

by Anonymousreply 43August 7, 2025 4:23 AM

R42 But that’s what a residency is you dumb cunt.

by Anonymousreply 44August 7, 2025 4:39 AM

“Based off of” instead of “based on”

by Anonymousreply 45August 7, 2025 4:40 AM

Op I feel you on influencer. I mean that’s what those cunts are and I respect many of their hustles but the handful I met in person need to cease to exist from a horrible grease fire. 🔥 Cunts so insufferable that now I can’t stand to hear the word.

by Anonymousreply 46August 7, 2025 4:41 AM

R18 Yet some people alter their biology to conform to the construct. The eternal "trans" contradiction.

And "cis" man/woman is as redundant as saying "human" man/woman. It's stating the obvious.

by Anonymousreply 47August 7, 2025 5:01 AM

“Craveables” as a menu heading. What does that even mean?

by Anonymousreply 48August 7, 2025 5:07 AM

R31 I had to chop off my tatas to be called one. It’s not fair.

by Anonymousreply 49August 7, 2025 5:09 AM

Some of you cunts on this very thread some very Problematic.

by Anonymousreply 50August 7, 2025 5:11 AM

[quote] Anyways.

I find that one similar to “All’s I know” and “who all”, which I both find utterly grating.

by Anonymousreply 51August 7, 2025 6:17 AM

I am "Authentically and organically" .... shit storm. Meghag, Prince Harry's skank overuses these terms. She will never be authentic or organic. GTFU.

by Anonymousreply 52August 7, 2025 6:29 AM

Unalive what was wrong with the term Suicide?

by Anonymousreply 53August 7, 2025 6:33 AM

Exclusive being used instead of expensive to describe a hotel/restaurant/condo building. If it's open to any human with enough money, it's not exclusive.

Feels like journalists doing pro bono PR work.

by Anonymousreply 54August 7, 2025 9:29 AM

“Rising” to refer to school kids' grade level. “Conor, a rising ninth-grader, hopes to join the chess team.” Why rising? Is this a term used only in the summer? If so, just say “entering ninth grade.”

Annoying.

by Anonymousreply 55August 7, 2025 10:40 AM

"Welcome in"

and ... "Following!" (short for "can I help the following guest?")... what was wrong with "Next, please!"?

by Anonymousreply 56August 7, 2025 10:55 AM

R43 Well there is the word undeveloped.

by Anonymousreply 57August 7, 2025 11:17 AM

“No problem..”

for

“You are welcome.”

by Anonymousreply 58August 7, 2025 11:19 AM

I hate when you must now address a SUPER MORBIDLY OBESE woman as

Plus Sized- like that broad in California who was mocked by the gay male in short shorts 🩳.

by Anonymousreply 59August 7, 2025 11:27 AM

"Couple goals," or "___ is goals" 🤮

Almond moms, wine moms, tiger moms, mama bears...

Swole

"Elevated" as a food descriptor ("Elevated Asian fusion street food in a contemporary upscale setting")

by Anonymousreply 60August 7, 2025 11:33 AM

[quote] Unalive what was wrong with the term Suicide?

R53 - You'll need ask YouTube which also has rechristened rape as "grape". How is that less offensive when it completely erases the horror of such a crime?

by Anonymousreply 61August 7, 2025 11:49 AM

What's worse is that people on reddit will voluntarily say SA'd, r61. They could talk about rape like adults but they choose to use baby language. I wonder how many rape survivors appreciate that.

by Anonymousreply 62August 7, 2025 11:53 AM

[quote] "Elevated Asian fusion street food in a contemporary upscale setting"

R60, LOL

Reminded me of this scene:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 63August 7, 2025 12:03 PM

It’s the site censoring these words or it causes the videos to get demonetized or hidden.

by Anonymousreply 64August 7, 2025 12:07 PM

Died by suicide.

(It's as if someone else killed the victim, and denies the agency of the word "committing."_

by Anonymousreply 65August 7, 2025 12:25 PM

"Truth to power."

"Authentic Life."

"Existential Threat"

All these make me want to smack a bitch upside the head.

by Anonymousreply 66August 7, 2025 12:39 PM

Ben Platt at r44.

by Anonymousreply 67August 7, 2025 12:40 PM

Bearking.

by Anonymousreply 68August 7, 2025 12:42 PM

Living my truth

My authentic self

Living my best life

by Anonymousreply 69August 7, 2025 12:54 PM

[quote] Died by suicide. (It's as if someone else killed the victim, and denies the agency of the word "committing."_

Disagree. “Commiting” comes from the idea that suicide is a sin or a crime. Outdated ideas.

by Anonymousreply 70August 7, 2025 1:28 PM

"Lived experience"

As if there's any other kind.

by Anonymousreply 71August 7, 2025 2:28 PM

"Storied".

STORIED!!! What the fuck????

by Anonymousreply 72August 7, 2025 4:39 PM

r58 de nada

by Anonymousreply 73August 7, 2025 4:54 PM

r70 That is the reason, but the real definition of committing just means to put into action. No judgement.

by Anonymousreply 74August 7, 2025 4:56 PM

Again. Disagree. Commit means to “deliberately put into action” in a legal or moral sense. You would not use that word to simply mean “do.” One commits shoplifting. One does not commit lunch. One commits adultery. One does not commit an affair.

by Anonymousreply 75August 7, 2025 5:03 PM

"No worries."

by Anonymousreply 76August 7, 2025 5:34 PM

Younger people adding "real quick" to requests. I don't get it.

"Just one question, real quick..."

Can I use your bathroom real quick?"

by Anonymousreply 77August 7, 2025 5:35 PM

People calling you "boss."

"Thanks, boss."

by Anonymousreply 78August 7, 2025 5:37 PM

People calling you boss isn't contemporary in the last seventy-five years.

You can hear it in old movies all the time. I cannot imagine being annoyed by it, but they got rid of "master bedroom", so I guess its days were numbered!

by Anonymousreply 79August 7, 2025 6:25 PM

"This space," i.e., "we are doing great work in this space." WTF?

by Anonymousreply 80August 7, 2025 6:47 PM

Oh Dear!

R80

You meant e.g, not i.e. (id est).

by Anonymousreply 81August 7, 2025 6:51 PM

R79 I haven't hear it used this way in old movies. Just random people calling you boss for no reason. (Usually young men.)

by Anonymousreply 82August 7, 2025 8:02 PM

"Um...what?"

by Anonymousreply 83August 7, 2025 8:03 PM

r61 Was there a "bunch" of them?

by Anonymousreply 84August 7, 2025 8:16 PM

Young men of color call me boss all the time. And they don’t work for me. Maybe it’s my height and hair.

by Anonymousreply 85August 7, 2025 8:25 PM

I really don't want to be called "boss" unless I'm someone's boss.

by Anonymousreply 86August 7, 2025 8:29 PM

Somehow "dad" and "mom" have replaced "father" and "mother"--I don't mean as names people call their parents, but rather as the way the world in general refers to someone's parents. "Brad Pitt's Mom" instead of mother. "How is your dad doing?" rather than father.

by Anonymousreply 87August 7, 2025 9:11 PM

"Stockist" - meaning a business/place that stocks a certain item. I ran across it a couple times when looking at various spirits (gin, tequlia) online. I'd go to the brand website and instead of "where to find," there was a list of "stockists." I'm not sure how widespread this is, but I've seen it, and think it's stupid.

by Anonymousreply 88August 7, 2025 10:58 PM

“Exponentially” is often pretentiously overused to describe the rapid growth of something.

by Anonymousreply 89August 7, 2025 11:03 PM

What a strange thing to be obsessed with, r87.

by Anonymousreply 90August 7, 2025 11:15 PM

R90 Yes, it would be, if anyone was obsessed with it. But I'm not.

by Anonymousreply 91August 7, 2025 11:20 PM

Oh, please, r91. You're always bringing up the mom / dad thing. You might as well sign in as the Mother & Father, not Mom & Dad troll.

by Anonymousreply 92August 7, 2025 11:25 PM

“Ask” and “lift” as nouns

“Give,” “gives,” or “giving,” as in, “that pant gives generous, yet streamlined”

And I will second “based off of” instead of “based on”.

by Anonymousreply 93August 7, 2025 11:47 PM

Right R89 , “exponentially “ it is even used by serious media. They have no clue what the underlying math is.

by Anonymousreply 94August 7, 2025 11:49 PM

“Pant” to refer to a pair of pants.

by Anonymousreply 95August 7, 2025 11:52 PM

R87- I've mentioned that myself in similar thread to this one about new words or names that have replaced old ones.

When I was a kid in the 1970's and 1980's no one referred to their mother and father to friends as my mom and dad. It was always my mother and my father- when I was 7 or 14 or 21.

by Anonymousreply 96August 8, 2025 12:00 AM

"Luxury Apartments" - no, they're just new and there's decent-looking cabinets and finishes that don't cost a ton.

There's nothing luxury about the apartment. It's a modern apartment - that's it. And it's modern because it's new.
