Trump Forces Murdoch, 94, to Give Him Regular Health Updates

President Trump has compelled The Wall Street Journal’s 94-year-old owner Rupert Murdoch to submit health updates in exchange for dropping the expedited deposition demand in his $10 billion lawsuit against the paper.

Trump and Murdoch’s lawyers told a federal court in Florida on Monday that the president would not force Murdoch to testify expeditiously until a federal judge rules on Murdoch and the Journal‘s motion to dismiss.

A lawyer for Trump did not respond to an immediate request for comment. A spokesperson for Dow Jones, the paper’s parent company, declined to comment, pointing instead to a statement from last month that said it would “vigorously defend against any lawsuit.”

It makes sense that if the person you are suing is that ancient and wants to delay the case, then you’d want to know how healthy they are and what the likelihood is that they’ll still be around.

Anything BUT governing...

Of course that should go both ways r1. Especially if Trump is going senile and starting to wander around the White House roof, as he clearly is.

WTF is this? A "health update" requirement isn't any kind of real legal procedure in litigation. Unless, by "health update" it refers to a subpoena by Trump's lawyers for Murdoch to undergo an IME (independent medical examination), which is what is served in lots of cases where physical health might be part of the causes of action or damages framing. (Don't see any grounds for that type of subpoena in this particular litigation, though.) There's also subpoenas for independent psychological examinations which, in this case, the WSJ could absolutely serve one of those on Trump (and I wish they would!) WSJ could also subpoena Trump for him to undergo an IME.

In any case, procedurally speaking, the WSJ is right to wait for the court's decision on its Motion to Dismiss first. JFC Trump's lawyers are really stupid (or being deliberately obtuse to delay which is more likely).

I have to add, this is shitty, deceptive reporting by the Daily Beast (a ridiculous "news" outlet all around. Propaganda and engagement farming mainly). Trump and his lawyers can't "compel" Murdoch to do anything unless they file the appropriate motion papers and go through the court procedures and hearings.
