We’ll blow me down: Before it was canceled, HBO and SJP allegedly reached out to Kim Cattrall

and begged her to return “full-time” as Samantha to save the show. She once again declined their offer.

The ultimate vindication. I bet it feels indescribable.

by Anonymousreply 1August 5, 2025 7:33 PM

The problem was not the lack of Samantha. If anything, Kim has made the Samantha character almost mythical at this point. But had they written her as poorly as they wrote all the others, it wouldn’t have mattered. Miranda was also beloved prior this version, and they absolutely ruined her.

Although if Kim coming back would’ve saved us from Che Diaz and some of the other dead weight, then maybe that would’ve helped. I think they would’ve still had at least some of those characters. They were very dead set on correcting the diversity issue.

R1, that is the best R1 response ever.

one doesn't need to be bitchy to be 100% spot on.

R2, I agree, it's the writing, the writing, the writing. It's like Y&R rehiring Stafford and giving Gina the boot.

If anything the ratings are lower, it's better to have great writing; when shows fail at that they go to casting.

But getting Kim back would have been amazing; it might have given the show another season or 4.

by Anonymousreply 3August 5, 2025 7:37 PM

I don't know her...any longer.

by Anonymousreply 4August 5, 2025 7:38 PM

Kim knew this reboot would be trash and wisely stayed away. Samantha will be remembered as iconic, while Carrie and Miranda are jokes.

by Anonymousreply 5August 5, 2025 7:43 PM

I call bullshit. Sounds fishy. They knew Kim would say no and would never crawl after her.

by Anonymousreply 6August 5, 2025 8:42 PM

Too many new characters that you didn’t care about. There should have been only one new friend (Lisa), no Che Diaz, a likable girlfriend for Miranda (though it was entirely unnecessarily for her to become a lesbian in the first place), and a real story line for Anthony once Stanford was gone (not some ridiculously gorgeous boytoy nearly 40 years his junior).

by Anonymousreply 7August 5, 2025 8:58 PM

It was too late for Kim to save. Maybe if she had been in on it in the beginning and had stopped the bullshit writing.

by Anonymousreply 8August 5, 2025 9:02 PM

Hahaha, hilarious. I'm so glad Kim refused - again.

by Anonymousreply 9August 5, 2025 9:06 PM

SJP and Kristin Davis seem hitched to the Sex and the City money train, while Cynthia Nixon took the exit ramp and built a whole new lane for herself. That said, Kim Cattrall isn’t turning it down for cash, she just has no interest in dragging Samantha into her seventies without growth. And she’s right. The character doesn’t belong in a SATC universe that won’t let Samantha evolve.

by Anonymousreply 10August 5, 2025 10:47 PM

There's nothing wrong with staying true to who you are!

by Anonymousreply 11August 6, 2025 4:33 AM

This didn’t happen.

by Anonymousreply 12August 6, 2025 5:56 AM

R10, Kim didn't like what they did to the character of Samantha. They made a fool of her. They really made her degrade herself with some of those stupid, disgusting storylines. None of them posed nude, but they expected her to do it all the time. It was that bitch SJP that did that. She enjoyed humiliating Kim.

Kim wants nothing to do with that bitch, who claims to be a feminist, but is just a piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 13August 6, 2025 7:19 AM

I'm too lazy to look up the source but I heard she turned down a third SATC movie because the script had her sexting with Miranda's underage son.

by Anonymousreply 14August 6, 2025 8:49 AM

Kim Cattrall could've made a ton of money to come back and do AJLT but she knew that SATC was of its time, they were all too old for a reboot and she didn't want to embarrass herself. So she said "no" in spite of the $$$ being offered. I admire that.

[quote]Miranda was also beloved prior this version, and they absolutely ruined her.

Miranda was ruined because they gave into Cynthia Nixon's DEMANDS and let Miranda become Cynthia. Cynthia had way too much input into the character with her batshit politics.

by Anonymousreply 16August 6, 2025 9:58 AM

Cynthia Nixon is extremely woke – so you know there is no way they wouldn’t have lots of diversity and lots of trans in the show which of course totally ruined it. Because what makes for a good show is the writing, the acting and the directing not meeting some arbitrary diversity quotas.

There is ZERO verification or reporting on OP's reddit link.

by Anonymousreply 18August 6, 2025 11:03 AM

The real mystery is why Kim agreed to make the second movie which was terrible and turned Samantha into a menopausal mess. Lawrence of My Labia? She actually agreed to say that line?

by Anonymousreply 19August 6, 2025 11:21 AM

There are soooo many excellent shows with diverse casts, characters and storylines. In fact, I would argue that ANY good show is diverse, and a tv show with just white characters frankly is weird to me. “Woke” is not the reason this show wasn’t good, it was strictly the writing and character development. If either of those two things were good, we wouldn’t be talking about how “woke” the show was.

by Anonymousreply 20August 6, 2025 11:28 AM

She probably had a lot of leverage and was able to ask for a shitload of money, r19.

I'm not a Cynthia Nixon fan but I think the blame belongs to the writers, r16 r17. They weren't obligated to awkwardly address all these 2020s social issues just because Cynthia Nixon is a lesbian Democrat IRL. Why are we pretending that Miranda was a great character in the original series? She was always annoying and humorless.

by Anonymousreply 21August 6, 2025 11:30 AM

The Reddit link has already been deleted. It’s BS.

by Anonymousreply 22August 6, 2025 11:45 AM

The story is entirely believable. Her return was the ONE thing that could've boosted the ratings and producers will do anything to keep a show going.

I wish she'd said yes. It would've been fun. But I respect her decision.

After her public rebuke to SJP's condolences about her brother's death, it's hard to imagine them being in the same room ever again. Never has a celebrity been quite so direct and pointed as Kim was.

by Anonymousreply 23August 6, 2025 11:48 AM

r21 Cynthia had a lot of input into the writing.

by Anonymousreply 24August 6, 2025 12:01 PM

It's still on them for not saying no, r24.

by Anonymousreply 25August 6, 2025 12:04 PM

The show is terrible because the writing is stupid, there are way too many new characters, and Kim Cantrell is missing.

by Anonymousreply 26August 6, 2025 12:05 PM

[Quote] Why are we pretending that Miranda was a great character in the original series? She was always annoying and humorless.

Unfortunately adding lesbian to that mix is even more depressing
