I really liked the first movie from 2003. I watch it every once in a while.

The original movie from 1976 is just so so.

by Anonymousreply 1August 5, 2025 5:44 PM

Fuck you, R1!

by Anonymousreply 2August 5, 2025 6:04 PM

I smell an Oscar nomination.

Especially since she was snubbed this year for one.

by Anonymousreply 3August 5, 2025 6:13 PM

The poster makes it look like a lesbian romance that spans the generation gap.

by Anonymousreply 4August 5, 2025 6:37 PM

They’ve really smoothed both their faces out in that ad.

by Anonymousreply 5August 5, 2025 6:39 PM

80% on RT means 80% gave it a positive review. But its metacritic average is in the 60s which means those are only slightly positive reviews on average. There will be no Oscar for this.

by Anonymousreply 6August 5, 2025 6:39 PM

If the critics are singling out Jamie Lee for praise, that means something.

The movie doesn't have to be great for an actor to get a nomination.

Jamie has turned into one of the most critically acclaimed actresses of her generation, and one of the most consistent in terms of delivering quality work in her performances.

That's pretty amazing.

by Anonymousreply 7August 5, 2025 6:42 PM

R7 = JLC's PR flack.

by Anonymousreply 8August 5, 2025 6:53 PM

She's already working the stroll.

These critics are influencers who want to be invited to more premieres. They won’t dare give anything a negative review unless the actor is in some sort of race-baiting scandal. The entire thing is laughable. Critics are unnecessary. It’s subjective crap by people who failed to make it in show business.

by Anonymousreply 11August 5, 2025 9:00 PM

I'm excited to see it!

I never understood why JLC daughter hasn't gone into modeling. Her/Them/We seems like a natural. Why not hit the runway?

R14 OMG, I had no idea JLC had such a beautiful runway model type Daughter. I hope VS sees your post on this thread and immediately signs her up, STAT.

I have not heard much from JLC I bet she is staying quiet so she does not have to compete with her daughter.

What an incredible family dynasty. And of course the daughter is "brave" and "fearless"---which goes without saying. She could follow in Moms footsteps and do a Scream or Chucky type movie? I would pay to see it. The daughter is also giving me Naomi Campbell realness!!. Models make good dough.

I'm exactly the same as R1. That was a fun movie.

I'll be watching it for Lindsay, not JLC.

My dick's bigger.

by Anonymousreply 22August 7, 2025 1:46 PM

CURTIS: It’s a light comedy. The situations are wacky. It’s a little bit of mayhem, which is fun. But for me, what remains is the depth of people.

by Anonymousreply 23August 7, 2025 2:02 PM

[quote] ...what remains is the depth of people.

Really? I feel like she prepared that as an answer before the interview, because really...what else can you say about the movie?

by Anonymousreply 24August 7, 2025 2:15 PM

^I guess I'm *really* in a mood this morning

by Anonymousreply 25August 7, 2025 2:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 26August 7, 2025 3:45 PM

Shamelessly campaigning 24/7 for MORE recognition and awards?

Well, I never!

Her career peak should've come much sooner.

She would've been MUCH LESS of an asshole as an A-lister in the pre-MeToo era.

New York Times review

while some of the performances stand out (Lohan still retains great comic timing, Hammons is strong and Jacinto is pitch-perfect), others seem either too frenetic or not frenetic enough.

R1 what about the 1995 TV remake that aired on ABC, starring Shelly Long and Gaby Hoffman?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 31August 7, 2025 8:39 PM

It wasn't even that good in the first place. Does it really deserve so many goddamn remakes?

by Anonymousreply 32August 7, 2025 9:28 PM

I saw it today. The script as well as the acting is pretty mediocre but I could tell that from watching the trailers. Overall, it's not exactly art but it's decent, light summer fare that pays homage to the original film.

by Anonymousreply 33August 8, 2025 1:41 AM

R33 -----JLC Assistant.

by Anonymousreply 34August 8, 2025 1:45 AM

Saw it today with a young family member. It’s fine. Feels sort of dated. But harmless and everyone is perfectly fine in their roles. Lohan did surprise me a bit, since a few years ago it seemed like she had lost whatever “it” she once had.

I caught a preview screening today. It’s predictable and Jamie is way over the top but there are some funny lines and it does have a lot of heart.

R35: What about her surprised you? Her new face?

"‘Freakier Friday’ Review – A Poor Revival of a 2000s Family Classic"

"Half baked sequel"

"Freakier Friday is emblematic of the lower standards we generally have for movies being released today."

"The overly plain compositions, appallingly bad green screen, and bright high-key lighting give off Disney Channel Original Movie vibes."

His accent indeed was ridiculous and atrocious. The actresses playing the teen girls were annoying as fuck.

The problem with the Jodie Foster version is that Barbara Harris’ performance didn’t at all match the butch persona of Jodie. Harris did a girly, airhead performance, it’s almost as if she filmed all her scenes before meeting Jodie.

by Anonymousreply 41August 8, 2025 5:41 AM

Yeah… she needed to dyke it up.

by Anonymousreply 42August 8, 2025 7:29 AM

It was great to see Mark Harmon again but sadly he's wasted here.

The problem with all of them is that Mary Rodgers wrote a funny, astringent book set in Manhattan and every version of this has relocated them to the suburbs. Same issue with Harriet the Spy, who belongs nowhere but the UES.

by Anonymousreply 47August 8, 2025 8:21 PM

Saw it yesterday and overall it works. But dear god WHY do they need a US immigration interview BEFORE they get married? He is a Brit, and they are planning to move to the UK (it is the entire plot device of the movie), but they need US immigration to “approve” their marriage three days before the wedding? Huh? JFC.
