Trump to withhold disaster funding for states and cities who boycott Israel

U.S. states and cities that boycott Israeli companies will be denied federal aid for natural disaster preparedness, the Trump administration has announced, tying routine federal funding to its political stance.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency stated in grant notices posted on Friday that states must follow its "terms and conditions." Those conditions require they certify they will not sever "commercial relations specifically with Israeli companies" to qualify for funding.

The requirement applies to at least $1.9 billion that states rely on to cover search-and-rescue equipment, emergency manager salaries and backup power systems among other expenses, according to 11 agency grant notices reviewed by Reuters.

The requirement is the Trump administration's latest effort to use federal funding to promote its views on Israel.

Under one of the grant notices posted on Friday, FEMA will require major cities to agree to the Israel policy to receive a cut of $553.5 million set aside to prevent terrorism in dense areas.

New York is due to receive $92.2 million from the program, the most of all the recipients. Allocations are based on the agency's analysis of "relative risk of terrorism," according to the notice.

In this case two wrongs still don't make a right, but aren't bothering me at all.

One big "I don't care" about this.

In Trump's America, foreign policy loyalty tests matter more than American lives.

Thanks, MAGA!

You’re a fascist pig.

Whatever happened to America first?

Boycotts of Israel are actually illegal anyway in many states. It’s also illegal if you’re a contractor to the federal government. I don’t think this is much of an issue. It’s Dump trying to prove he’s up Netanyahu’s ass.

Democrats don’t attack Trump enough for being a cuck to Israel, MAGA has a hard time with that.

Serious question. Which states and cities? Don't they both get to choose where they invest their money?

What's illegal is Trump withholding money from states and cities that do that.

It’s a year old but here you go r8. Frankly I don’t think boycotts of Israel are a thing, re non-federal government entities, I.e. state and/or local governments. I’m sure there must be some in private industry but not if you want to do business with the federal government. The federal government forbids boycotts of Israel f you are a contractor. The anti boycott stuff related to Israel was implemented in the 1970s, it’s not a new thing at all. It’s Dump showing off to Netanyahu.

Boycotts of Israel are not illegal in any state, then. States and cities choose to invest in Israel or Israeli companies, or not. Companies choose to use Israeli companies or not. If it's a company policy not to use Israeli companies, the state may not give them contracts. From the article:

"The states that have passed legislation making it illegal for state agencies to work with companies that boycott Israel include..."

The illegality is on the part of the state, not any company or other entity.

Has Congress passed a law not allowing aid to states or cities that boycott Israel? I really don't think so. It's more Trump deflection. Don't fall for it.
