Tasteful friends: Francis Ford Coppola's 1922 Mediterranean style house in L.A., $2.25M

Coppola bought the Whitely Hills house in 1994 and sold it in 2013 to his daughter-in-law, costume designer Jacqui Getty, and her daughter, “The Last Showgirl” director Gia Coppola.

[quote]The 1,931-square-foot home was constructed in 1922 and includes three bedrooms and four bathrooms. It offers sweeping views of Los Angeles and features multilevel gardens, overlooked by the primary suite, a private dipping pool and several outdoor entertaining areas.

It's a lovely, low-key house. There's not much at all that I dislike .

Is the fabulous cat included?

by Anonymousreply 4August 4, 2025 10:58 AM

Looks cozy and very private. I like it. I think I'd rather have a jacuzzi instead of that very small pool.

By Whitely Hills, do you mean Whitley Heights?

by Anonymousreply 6August 4, 2025 11:15 AM

Wouldn’t the daughter of his daughter- in-law just be his granddaughter?

by Anonymousreply 7August 4, 2025 11:57 AM

It's lovely - very warm and eclectic. Love the cats too. For some reason it brings to mind Mrs Madrigal from Tales of the City.

The kitchen renovation isn't good. The huge stainless steel hood is too assertive in a 1920s LA house, and all the open shelving (trendy for the last decade or so) is a greasy dust trap.

Why is it so cheap?

by Anonymousreply 10August 4, 2025 2:04 PM

Not surprised it's a classy tasteful little joint. Coppola seems like a true old-school kind of artist. Now show me Michael Bay's house.

Lovely bones, but overall not to my taste. It's too cramped and crowded, and it's an unfortunate blend of classic and industrial-mod (why are there restaurant sinks in the bathrooms?). But if they had staged it a little more tidily, and put in period fixtures with a bit more panache, this place would be perfect.

It's almost a dreamy little house, but it's overproduced with too many baffling creative choices. Much like Francis's body of work.

Listing price seemed cheap at first glance

by Anonymousreply 13August 4, 2025 2:31 PM

As to the price, it's shown as under contract within 2 days of listing.

Just beautiful. So comfortable and natural. I could move right in.

I'd deal with the industrial sinks later, remove the open shelving, and replace them with period specific cabinets.

Love it.

Same, R15. I'd live with the kitchen for a while and make some changes as you suggest, keeping some open shelving. I like the feel of the kitchen, but a big deep sink and some simple cabinetry fitting the period and style of the house would be a small improvement of big impact.

The industrial sinks in the bathroom/s I'd replace sooner as those are especially incongruous and easily remedied.

The garden is terrific exactly as is.
