Ridiculous. No way it truly costs them $3 more per person per month to keep a decent profit. Bullshit greed.

by Anonymousreply 1August 4, 2025 10:20 AM

...and THAT'S why I FINALLY dropped it yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 2August 4, 2025 10:21 AM

Not worth it

They're shelling out huge bucks for sports -- $76 billion for the NBA alone, plus contracts with the NFL, Big Ten, WWE and Premier League. They're about to find out how viewers who subscribed for Days of our Lives and Poker Face feel about being gouged for programming they likely have no interest in.

It's interesting to add up the monthly costs of all the streaming services you have. I did this recently and then cancelled a lot of them as I wasn't using them regularly. Instead, I will alternate the streaming services rather than having them all at once.

by Anonymousreply 5August 4, 2025 1:01 PM

R5 I really need to do that.

by Anonymousreply 6August 4, 2025 1:58 PM

You should R6. I was quite shocked at how much all the monthly streaming services came to. It was a lot more than I was prepared to pay for some services which I only used once or twice a month which wasn't value for money. I cut Apple, Netflix, Disney, Paramount and Britbox. If there's something I really want to watch then I can switch a service back on for a month or so. It has saved me quite a bit of money.

I subscribe to YouTube Premium and find myself watching a lot of stuff on it to my surprise. There are some great films to watch including plenty of gay movies. Plus heaps of news, music, documentaries - basically anything you want to watch. It would be the last streaming service I cut off.

If you are an Instacart+ member, you can receive a free Peacock subscription.

Yep, R5/R7--and don't forget podcasts. Many people (je m'accuse) who regularly listen to certain podcasters also subscribe to higher-tier access points to avoid commercials, get bonus members-only episodes, chat directly with the podcasters, and simply to help fund the 'casts.

I'm really bad about paying for memberships in the overnight hours (I usually listen to podcasts in bed while doing my online jigsaw puzzles and courting sleep), then kinda forgetting about it. Last month I scanned my bank account and noticed a good number of recurring payments to podcasts.

I need to cut those out, too.

Cancel and wait for them to beg you to come back with a discounted promotional offer

by Anonymousreply 10August 4, 2025 3:52 PM

When I cancelled Peacock they offered me a year for $1.99 and Hulu did the same. Dumping them both again at the end of the year.

by Anonymousreply 11August 4, 2025 3:52 PM

Dead to me.

by Anonymousreply 12August 4, 2025 4:14 PM

I signed up for a month to watch Wicked. The only other thing I cared about was The Traitors US/UK. I don't give a damn about Love Island. Everything else can be seen on NBC.

by Anonymousreply 13August 4, 2025 4:35 PM

Not surprising. Someone needs to pay for Deidre Hall.

by Anonymousreply 14August 4, 2025 4:40 PM

R4 - yes, sports is the driving reason. There are so many people who will pay more to have access to various team sports broadcasts. It's a huge customer base for house parties and in sports bars that want to entice people in their establishment to watch regular or championship games in groups, pay for drinks, food, etc. Also big for house party gatherings centered around sports events. I don't get it at all, but I see it all the time in my friend groups that are into sporting events. In any case, not worth the price hike.

by Anonymousreply 15August 4, 2025 4:58 PM

And it still sucks.

by Anonymousreply 16August 4, 2025 4:59 PM

Torrent.

by Anonymousreply 17August 4, 2025 6:15 PM

Who still has multiple streaming services at this point?

It's rather antiquated.

by Anonymousreply 18August 4, 2025 6:40 PM

The concessions to actors and writers will eventually be paid by the consumers.

by Anonymousreply 19August 4, 2025 6:53 PM

R7 AHHHH, you reminded me that I also have Britbox.
