Several factors are involved with the decline of the great Datalounge. An aging gay male population. The devaluation of Camp. Gossip is seen as negative and unproductive. People take anti-depressant 'happy drugs' that prevent cynicism, sarcasm, irony and snark. Old Stuff- before say 1995- needs to be packed away in an attic. The anti-Boomer sentiment that anyone over 45 should neither be seen nor heard (but can you help me with this month's rent?)...

And no one wants to be Gay anymore. They just want to fuck sexy people and keep their options open. .

You have to pay to post and lesbians are cheap.

DL Blocking paying users for anti-drugs posts about celeb addicts (that's like all celebs, right?) doesn't help the long-term future of the site.

Q-whip has been abandoned by the members, no posts since November of last year.

It's more the uncontrolled trolls that kill DL. For Trump that's actually a good thing - if he actually knew about this site. But riling everybody up by trolls helps him more than shutting down the place.

Because of wider acceptance of LGBT people, gays no longer feel the need to visit gay spaces. This goes for online too. Gays are no longer posting on data lounge because they're using gay-straight social media like Reddit to gossip, search for celeb dick pics, and be hateful towards other gays.
