I bet Burt is waiting on the other side for her, and they both will be transformed to their most healthy and attractive times in their lives.

I realize they had an acrimonious end, but I do think they were kind of meant to be.

by Anonymousreply 8August 3, 2025 10:41 PM

OMG Linda Gray looks like a ghoul.

If those two crossed paths again in the afterlife, they'd immediately start fighting over money again and suing each other.

And goddammit, Donald Trump is still alive.

No fucking mercy in this world.

by Anonymousreply 34August 3, 2025 11:14 PM

Just read another article that said she died in a hospital after a "prolonged illness." Wondering if she died of cancer or some other terminal disease.

Yes, 80 year olds die, but she seemed pretty healthy, there were no reports or pics of her looking frail or sickly any time in the recent past. She even appeared on a show just 2 years ago and looked pretty damn good. THAT'S WHY IT WAS UNEXPECTED.

Jesus.

When you reach a certain age (which she had, and I have) it really doesn't matter how good your health seems. You never know what health abomination you're going to wake up to every day. You can be perfectly fine one minute and dead the next. Ii realize I'm living on borrowed time and try to enjoy every day I'm given.

by Anonymousreply 42August 3, 2025 11:21 PM

"Prolonged illness" usually means cancer.

by Anonymousreply 43August 3, 2025 11:22 PM

Her internal body might have been 80, but her external body was only 35. She'd had tons of plastic surgery. Most women are happy living in their own skin. Loni was happy living in someone else's.

I remember reading once that the main reason she and Burt divorced was because she had attempted to spend him into bankruptcy. Once he put the brakes on her wild spending she was out of there.

LONGTIME love rivals Loni Anderson and Sally Field are finding emotional Deliverance by bonding over their shared dislike of mutual ex-lover, the late Burt Reynolds, GLOBE can reveal!

"It bugs them both that their names are synonymous with this man," tattles a tipster.

The Semi-Tough actor died at 82 from a heart attack in 2018, but insiders say Loni, 77, is still "bitter" over their rocky divorce and has found a confidante in Burt's Smokey and the Bandit leading lady, Sally, 76.

Loni and Burt, who shared adopted son Quinton, now 34, were married six years, but The Man Who Loved Women hunk only finished paying out her settlement in 2015 - 22 years after they split!

"Loni's doing great now and so is Sally, but when it comes to Burt, there's still bitterness," snitches an insider.

Loni and Burt - captured in time......mismatched pair and certainly not believable.

by Anonymousreply 47August 3, 2025 11:30 PM

[quote]Did he beat her up, too?

Loni referenced domestic abuse in her memoir and said her bruises didn't go unnoticed on sets.

[quote]I remember reading once that the main reason she and Burt divorced was because she had attempted to spend him into bankruptcy. Once he put the brakes on her wild spending she was out of there.

That's his story. According to her, he cheated throughout their marriage. He even invited his mistress to their wedding.

She stood by him when he couldn't work because he broke his jaw, and rumors flew that he had AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 49August 3, 2025 11:32 PM

Burt and Loni were tabloid fixtures of the 80's.

The story goes that when they announced their divorce, Princess Diana sent Burt a joking telegram thanking them for keeping her off the front page for once.

by Anonymousreply 55August 3, 2025 11:44 PM

My BF and I were in an antique store in Louisville a couple of years ago and the owner had a (hideous) “Venetian” glass mirror he swore came from Burt and Loni’s house. I hate to speak badly about her so quickly after she died - BUT - this is Datalounge after all.

I always thought she looked cheap and facially she wasn't all THAT. She was a dyed-blonde with big boobs - a dime a dozen.

Here's what she looked like when she was young. Brown hair and brown eyes.

She always just looked like a mob's wife - tight tacky clothes, big boobs, over-bleached hair. She had terrible style. It was 100% bimbo.

But I'm sure she was lovely.

by Anonymousreply 121August 4, 2025 2:33 AM

Some of her funniest awful wigs were in her '80s and '90s TV movies. Those roles often came to her at the last minute, after other actresses dropped out due to illness or scheduling conflicts.

by Anonymousreply 122August 4, 2025 2:35 AM

R120 - I think she would have looked a lot more sophisticated with brown hair with streaks and highlights - not the full crispy over-processed blonde hair with feathered wings.

In later years she may have worn wigs - but she bleached the fuck out of that hair for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 123August 4, 2025 2:35 AM

She never really found her “Burning Bed” vehicle.

by Anonymousreply 124August 4, 2025 2:36 AM

[quote] I doubt Burt was gay. There are no rumors of him hooking up with men

I think he could have been bisexual. He admitted as much in a Barbara Walters interview in the 1970s. Said guys in cigarette ads were attractive, might turn bisexual for them. He might have been referring to Tom Selleck's Marlboro advertisements (see that other thread with fatso MAGAT gun nut)

It was the 1970s and many celebs were admitting to bisexuality to cover being gay. Elton John for one.

Even Blake Edwards talked about his "bisexual period" in a PLAYBOY interview (I sneaked my father's Playboy and Penthouse magazines out of his filing cabinet when he wasn't home)

by Anonymousreply 125August 4, 2025 2:40 AM

It’s not like I was ever a huge Loni fan, but this does make me sad. She was good on WKRP (even though like most gays I preferred Bailey) and I even watched her shitty show with Lynda Carter (I will be *devastated* when she dies). I think she was okay as Jayne Mansfield? I haven’t seen that movie since it first aired on tv, and I was a kid, so who knows. Did really love her as sort of Candy Spelling on SO NOTORIOUS.

It’s hard being in my 50s now and seeing the people I grew up watching die off.

Well, not Hulk Hogan. Fuck him.

She swears she was not in the film “Nevada Smith” and that she was in college at the time. Even her family told her it was her. She said she didn’t come to Hollywood until a decade later but she would love to know who the woman is because she looks and sounds like her with brunette hair.

by Anonymousreply 158August 4, 2025 6:18 AM

I don't like women with stiff hair.

by Anonymousreply 159August 4, 2025 6:18 AM

Loni was a blonde and a brunette in the suspense thriller NECESSITY and she rocked em both!

by Anonymousreply 160August 4, 2025 6:27 AM

I could have sworn that years ago I read on the DL a thread about Loni started by an OP who was convinced that Loni was Black but passed once she got the cosmetic surgery and collection of blonde wigs.

Mind you I once met an unhinged dyke at a party who was convinced that Lisa Kudrow was originally Asian American before the cosmetic surgery, bleached hair and changing her name, which was originally Lee-sa Koo-dro, so I could be getting confused.

[quote] I always loved the ending theme, too.

The guy who composed it recorded a demo with some gibberish lyrics and sent it to producer Hugh Wilson. He was going to write some later, but Wilson decided to use it as it was. I don’t know how many times I tried to decipher those lyrics.

This will have #153 cryin':

Does r165 really typify gay men?

by Anonymousreply 166August 4, 2025 8:02 AM

r166 Who said it did?

by Anonymousreply 167August 4, 2025 9:49 AM

R156. Unfortunately for you, R154 does know how to read.

by Anonymousreply 168August 4, 2025 9:59 AM

R154 Oh, dear!

[quote] "We" and "us" are both first-person plural pronouns, but they function differently in a sentence. "We" is used as the subject of a verb (the doer of the action), while "us" is used as the object of a verb or preposition (the receiver of the action).

by Anonymousreply 169August 4, 2025 10:32 AM

Loni's makeup always seemed 'off.' It made her look reddish - very unflattering. That harsh hair really would have been better matched with softer, smokey makeup.

No official cause of death has been announced (TMZ is slacking) but her publicist had said she battled a 'long term illness'. Some people on Facebook are posting on her obit pages that she was battling MS for years, but never went public with it, and this was the cause of death.

Not sure how true this is, but this is what some people 'who know her' are putting out there (and there seems to be some agreement on this).

by Anonymousreply 172August 4, 2025 11:48 AM

Might have been peroxide poisoning.

by Anonymousreply 173August 4, 2025 11:52 AM

I truly admire these celebrities like Anderson who are battling a terminal illness and keep it out of their public lives (Donna Summer , and most recently Julian McMahon comes to mind). There is something to be said for how they - and those around them - can keep control of their private lives, and manage it separately from their public / celebrity life in this age of digital info.

When did she have the surgery? Her boobs don’t look that big in the pageant picture upthread.

by Anonymousreply 178August 4, 2025 1:00 PM

Implants need to be replaced (or removed) as they have a shelf life. She seems to have gotten hers fairly young...I wonder how many "refreshes" she had.

by Anonymousreply 179August 4, 2025 1:11 PM

Loni had a similar face to Our Lady of Fried Egg Titties Bonnie Franklin.

by Anonymousreply 180August 4, 2025 2:13 PM

I always hated her bleached, lacquered hair. She was much more attractive as a brunette. I know her blonde look got her noticed, but it also made her look cheap and unserious.

by Anonymousreply 181August 4, 2025 2:15 PM

I think her best role was as a not-so-thinly-veiled version of Candy Spelling in Tori Spelling's brief, but hilarious "So Notorious" TV show.

I liked the way Loni's character referred to Zach Quinto, Tori's gay friend, as "that Persian boy."

by Anonymousreply 182August 4, 2025 2:23 PM

She had a reduction, r179, not an augmentation.

by Anonymousreply 183August 4, 2025 2:32 PM

Her figure was weird. When she wore shorts her legs looked like two pencils stuck in a big apple.

by Anonymousreply 184August 4, 2025 2:57 PM

My favorite WKRP moment was when Herb bragged he was going to be making "muy dinero".

Jennifer turned to him and said "Herb, in Spanish, you just said very money"..

by Anonymousreply 185August 4, 2025 3:57 PM

some guys like her type...

by Anonymousreply 186August 4, 2025 4:26 PM

Someone mentioned upthread how she raped and murdered two classic women’s noir movies: LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN AND SORRY, WRONG NUMBER. Those two movies made me dislike her. Almost as much as I dislike Susan Richardson, and that’s saying something 😡

by Anonymousreply 187August 4, 2025 6:46 PM

She also did the TV remake of A Letter to Three Wives with Michele Lee and Stephanie Zimbalist.

by Anonymousreply 188August 4, 2025 6:50 PM

We should do a DL film festival called "Loni Rapes the Classics"

by Anonymousreply 189August 4, 2025 6:53 PM

I guess she was better than Jaclyn Smith, who is a dreadful actress.

by Anonymousreply 190August 4, 2025 6:54 PM

She brutally butt-fucked those movies.

by Anonymousreply 191August 4, 2025 6:55 PM

Sadly, not even she could improve the quality of that "hit" show, "Nurses." I had such high hopes she could take it back to its glory days!

by Anonymousreply 192August 4, 2025 6:56 PM

She was hilarious as KiKi Spelling on Tori's tv show...

by Anonymousreply 193August 4, 2025 6:57 PM

CORRECTION: She did not have MS, and that's not what she died from. Apparently, her daughter Diedra, 60, was diagnosed with MS years ago and her mother has been by her side for every doctor's appointment, etc. - Loni was not the one diagnosed. The previous posts from this morning seem to have been taken down now.

by Anonymousreply 203August 5, 2025 12:44 AM

It's a shame Loni never got to play Grace Kelly. That would've completed a trifecta of dead Hollywood blondes in cars.

by Anonymousreply 204August 5, 2025 12:46 AM

R181 Her hair always looked so stiff that if you fell on top of her head you might get impaled.

by Anonymousreply 205August 5, 2025 12:47 AM

The Jayne Mansfield movie is pretty ghastly. Most of it looks like it was filmed in somebody’s living room. But I’ll give it props as a bit of a camp classic.

by Anonymousreply 206August 5, 2025 12:53 AM

R116 Huh? The young Burt was drop-dead gorgeous and oozed sex appeal. Speak for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 207August 5, 2025 12:58 AM

Someone posted "79 is young." COME ON! It's sad that she died, but when a 79 year old goes, it's sort of the natural order of things.

by Anonymousreply 208August 5, 2025 1:01 AM

I never really got the appeal of her as a sex symbol-that face, body, and especially helmet hair, made her seem like a weird caricature of every blonde that had come before her-but I liked her as a persona. She always seemed funny and down to earth in interviews. And I liked that Jennifer Marlowe ruled the roost. RIP.

Gary was my first inclination that I was attracted to men. He was so fucking sexy on WKRP.

by Anonymousreply 215August 5, 2025 2:08 AM

R212 yes Lynda Carter and Loni Anderson did Partners in Crime circa 1983.

by Anonymousreply 216August 5, 2025 2:11 AM

He was in "Some of My Best Friends Are", for crying out loud.

I wonder whether her kids will auction off her estate next year ? Will it be 'Raquel Welch' tacky or 'Barbara Walters' tasteful ? Will an auction house even take it or will it be sold on eBay ?

I'm guessing tackier than Raquel Welch's possessions she left behind.

by Anonymousreply 225August 5, 2025 12:16 PM

FTR, R154 is right to oh-dear R144's "I don't think any of we DLers had her on our 2025 Celebrity Death Watch list."

The object of the preposition "of" should be "us," not "we." That anyone would not get this is an embarrassment. I'm not sure which position R169 is supporting, but their quotation obviously supports "us."

by Anonymousreply 226August 5, 2025 12:27 PM

Wasn’t there blind items that hinted at Sandy being gay/bi? I recall reading that in one of Billy Masters’ old columns.

by Anonymousreply 227August 5, 2025 1:33 PM

R227 No, dear. The subject is DLers. Thus, "we DLer's."

by Anonymousreply 228August 5, 2025 1:47 PM

R227 He's been married, but it was brief and it ended in the 1990s, so I wouldn't be surprised if his marriage was a bearding situation.

by Anonymousreply 229August 5, 2025 1:47 PM

No, R228, the subject of the verb there ("had") is "any." "We DLers" is the object of the preposition "of" and should be "us DLers." How embarrassing when the ignorant are so self-assured!

by Anonymousreply 234August 5, 2025 2:14 PM

Oh shit, I’d forgotten about “Country Gold”. I remember watching that with my mom.

by Anonymousreply 235August 5, 2025 2:29 PM

She's prettier as a brunette. I never found her particularly attractive. She reminded me of Elsie the Cow on the milk cartons. She was bovine looking.

by Anonymousreply 236August 5, 2025 2:33 PM

The makeup was garish and does white helmet hair really look good on anyone past the 1960’s? I never knew how pretty she was with brunette hair and glasses until this thread.

by Anonymousreply 237August 5, 2025 2:46 PM

She was great as Jennifer - her deadpan comic timing was amazing.

Not so much in any of her other projects. And she was in a lot of terrible ones.

by Anonymousreply 238August 5, 2025 2:51 PM

Her character in WKRP was the perfect match of an actress to a role.

After that, she was never able to find another role that would match her personality, so she just ended up doing mostly shlock TV movie projects (oh, and that dreadful series with Lynda Carter).

She found her comic footing again as Tori Spelling's mom in So Notorious. Too bad that series didn't last.

by Anonymousreply 239August 5, 2025 2:59 PM

Loni Anderson was a bit before my time and I've never seen her in anything, but those tv movie descriptions sound torturous.

Sweetheart, we know that being a substitute English teacher in 1982 was the highlight of your sad and miserable life but you don't need to hang your shit on all of us here. Work it out with a therapist with the time you have left.

by Anonymousreply 241August 5, 2025 5:40 PM

Oh, my. R230, dear, let's start with the fact that "any" cannot be the subject of a verb, as "any" is a modifier.

Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 242August 5, 2025 5:42 PM

Loni wasn't bad on Nurses. The trouble was the show didn't know what it wanted to be. And they had so many characters on there over three seasons.

It originally was supposed to be an ensemble show about a group of female nurses who worked at the same hospital as Harry Weston from Empty Nest, but by the end it became about Loni's head of staff as well as David Rasche's sleazy con-artist character (who was brought on later) and their attempts to form a relationship.

I doubt many even know that this show was a part of the Golden Girls universe.

by Anonymousreply 243August 5, 2025 6:39 PM

Damn, you folks have fantastic memories. I completely forgot about her being on “Nurses.”

by Anonymousreply 244August 5, 2025 8:01 PM

She needed a better agent when WKRP went off the air. By the early-mid 80s, I think she was competing with Suzanne Sommers who was also looking for work at the time, trying not to be forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 245August 5, 2025 9:15 PM
