Just read another article that said she died in a hospital after a "prolonged illness." Wondering if she died of cancer or some other terminal disease.
Yes, 80 year olds die, but she seemed pretty healthy, there were no reports or pics of her looking frail or sickly any time in the recent past. She even appeared on a show just 2 years ago and looked pretty damn good. THAT'S WHY IT WAS UNEXPECTED.

Her internal body might have been 80, but her external body was only 35. She'd had tons of plastic surgery. Most women are happy living in their own skin. Loni was happy living in someone else's.
I remember reading once that the main reason she and Burt divorced was because she had attempted to spend him into bankruptcy. Once he put the brakes on her wild spending she was out of there.

LONGTIME love rivals Loni Anderson and Sally Field are finding emotional Deliverance by bonding over their shared dislike of mutual ex-lover, the late Burt Reynolds, GLOBE can reveal!
"It bugs them both that their names are synonymous with this man," tattles a tipster.
The Semi-Tough actor died at 82 from a heart attack in 2018, but insiders say Loni, 77, is still "bitter" over their rocky divorce and has found a confidante in Burt's Smokey and the Bandit leading lady, Sally, 76.
Loni and Burt, who shared adopted son Quinton, now 34, were married six years, but The Man Who Loved Women hunk only finished paying out her settlement in 2015 - 22 years after they split!
"Loni's doing great now and so is Sally, but when it comes to Burt, there's still bitterness," snitches an insider.

Here's what she looked like when she was young. Brown hair and brown eyes.
She always just looked like a mob's wife - tight tacky clothes, big boobs, over-bleached hair. She had terrible style. It was 100% bimbo.

R120 - I think she would have looked a lot more sophisticated with brown hair with streaks and highlights - not the full crispy over-processed blonde hair with feathered wings.
In later years she may have worn wigs - but she bleached the fuck out of that hair for a long time.

I think he could have been bisexual. He admitted as much in a Barbara Walters interview in the 1970s. Said guys in cigarette ads were attractive, might turn bisexual for them. He might have been referring to Tom Selleck's Marlboro advertisements (see that other thread with fatso MAGAT gun nut)
It was the 1970s and many celebs were admitting to bisexuality to cover being gay. Elton John for one.
Even Blake Edwards talked about his "bisexual period" in a PLAYBOY interview (I sneaked my father's Playboy and Penthouse magazines out of his filing cabinet when he wasn't home)

It’s not like I was ever a huge Loni fan, but this does make me sad. She was good on WKRP (even though like most gays I preferred Bailey) and I even watched her shitty show with Lynda Carter (I will be *devastated* when she dies). I think she was okay as Jayne Mansfield? I haven’t seen that movie since it first aired on tv, and I was a kid, so who knows. Did really love her as sort of Candy Spelling on SO NOTORIOUS.

She swears she was not in the film “Nevada Smith” and that she was in college at the time. Even her family told her it was her. She said she didn’t come to Hollywood until a decade later but she would love to know who the woman is because she looks and sounds like her with brunette hair.

I don't like women with stiff hair.

Loni was a blonde and a brunette in the suspense thriller NECESSITY and she rocked em both!
by Anonymous | reply 160 | August 4, 2025 6:27 AM |
I could have sworn that years ago I read on the DL a thread about Loni started by an OP who was convinced that Loni was Black but passed once she got the cosmetic surgery and collection of blonde wigs.
Mind you I once met an unhinged dyke at a party who was convinced that Lisa Kudrow was originally Asian American before the cosmetic surgery, bleached hair and changing her name, which was originally Lee-sa Koo-dro, so I could be getting confused.

Loni's makeup always seemed 'off.' It made her look reddish - very unflattering. That harsh hair really would have been better matched with softer, smokey makeup.

No official cause of death has been announced (TMZ is slacking) but her publicist had said she battled a 'long term illness'. Some people on Facebook are posting on her obit pages that she was battling MS for years, but never went public with it, and this was the cause of death.
Not sure how true this is, but this is what some people 'who know her' are putting out there (and there seems to be some agreement on this).

I truly admire these celebrities like Anderson who are battling a terminal illness and keep it out of their public lives (Donna Summer , and most recently Julian McMahon comes to mind). There is something to be said for how they - and those around them - can keep control of their private lives, and manage it separately from their public / celebrity life in this age of digital info.

I think her best role was as a not-so-thinly-veiled version of Candy Spelling in Tori Spelling's brief, but hilarious "So Notorious" TV show.
I liked the way Loni's character referred to Zach Quinto, Tori's gay friend, as "that Persian boy."

CORRECTION: She did not have MS, and that's not what she died from. I never really got the appeal of her as a sex symbol-that face, body, and especially helmet hair, made her seem like a weird caricature of every blonde that had come before her-but I liked her as a persona. She always seemed funny and down to earth in interviews. And I liked that Jennifer Marlowe ruled the roost. RIP.

FTR, R154 is right to oh-dear R144's "I don't think any of we DLers had her on our 2025 Celebrity Death Watch list."
The object of the preposition "of" should be "us," not "we." That anyone would not get this is an embarrassment. I'm not sure which position R169 is supporting, but their quotation obviously supports "us."

by Anonymous | reply 238 | August 5, 2025 2:51 PM |
Her character in WKRP was the perfect match of an actress to a role.
After that, she was never able to find another role that would match her personality, so she just ended up doing mostly shlock TV movie projects (oh, and that dreadful series with Lynda Carter).
She found her comic footing again as Tori Spelling's mom in So Notorious. Too bad that series didn't last.

Loni wasn't bad on Nurses. The trouble was the show didn't know what it wanted to be. And they had so many characters on there over three seasons.
It originally was supposed to be an ensemble show about a group of female nurses who worked at the same hospital as Harry Weston from Empty Nest, but by the end it became about Loni's head of staff as well as David Rasche's sleazy con-artist character (who was brought on later) and their attempts to form a relationship.
I doubt many even know that this show was a part of the Golden Girls universe.
