I had a wonderful time in Poland
I attended the 1000th anniversary celebration in Gniezno of the founding of the Kingdom of Poland in 1025. I had a real opportunity to connect with my Polish heritage, ate some great food, and best of all, sucked off an enormous uncut Polish cock. I met on Grindr a Polish guy with a horse cock who was back home visiting family, and since he lives abroad he speaks English fluently so we went out for drinks afterward. It was an amazing evening.
At the same time, I felt this paradox. Poland is behind Western Europe economically (though they re catching up fast), yet I saw no homeless people anywhere and I felt completely safe walking around at night alone, much safer than I do here in California.
All in all, it was a good trip.
At the same time, I felt this paradox.
This paradox is called income inequality. The US is so much richer than Poland, but the crazy wealth distribution makes it seem like Switzerland in some places, and Somalia in others. And it's only going to get worse, thanks to November.

Not even a Pollack would be dumb enough to be homeless in Gniezno if they could be homeless in LA.

Poland’s GDP per capita (PPP) is approximately $49,464. This compares to the UK ($58,906) and Japan ($50,206).

It isn't income disparity, it is cultural: intact families, a well educated population, religious, large extended families, alcohol is a problem but drugs aren't, it is a high trust society.
It's a fascinating country, especially if one is into history. They were tremendously brutalized during WW2, by the Germans and Soviets. The 50 years of Soviet occupation wasn't fun either. Krakow is magical, lots of wonderful music. Many handsome men.

OP, it's because the Anglosphere refuses to build enough housing while the rest of Europe doesn't have that problem (plus, I'm guessing Poland didn't close their mental insitutions down like we did in the 80s thanks to the public sentiment of the time). Poland sounds great, I'd love to visit their. I actually want to visit Poland way more than Germany, Polish people sound better to me.

R20 I didn’t say I hated California. If I have to live in the United States, California is the best place to be. But it does have its problems. With the amount of taxes that I have to pay to live here, plus the insane cost of living, I should have free healthcare and at least some of those taxes should go to deal with the homeless problem.

No, OP, you said "I felt completely safe walking around at night alone, much safer than I do here in California." and I pointed out that you, ostensibly a gay man given that you are posting on a gay forum, are much, much safer living in California than a country barely out of communism and overwhelmingly dominated by Catholicism ― both of which have very specific and legitimately concerning attitudes and policies regarding homosexuality. And this is the common refrain among California-haters; that it is *so much better* elsewhere because California has issues.
Go read the thread about Joe Rogan's friends, whom jumped on his anti-California bandwagon and moved to Texas only to discover that there is no place in Texas that can even begin to compare to Los Angeles or any part of California, and are moving back (with their tails between their legs, but we shouldn't point that out because it might make them feel that they were stupid to bash California).
Yeah, Cali has high taxes and a high cost of living.... because people [italic]want[/italic] to live here.

Calm down R26. When I said “I feel safer walking around in Poland” I meant that Poland doesn’t have homeless crackheads on every corner like California does. I never said I hate living in California.
By the way, the younger generation in Poland isn’t nearly as religious as the old.

R32, that's true in some areas of American cities. I saw a guy get punched in the face in the Manhattan theater district when he kissed his date good night at a subway entrance. This was in the late 1990s.
homeless crackheads on every corner like California does
Oh, for fuck's sake, California does not have homeless crackheads on every corner. Yes, California has a homeless problem (mostly due to several factors ranging from the pleasant weather to the problem we have with every state west of the Mississippi's homeless solution is to buy one-way tickets on busses Cali-bound), but we've just devoted $billions to working on the problem and the problem that took 50 years (from the time Reagan decimated the social safety net) won't get solved overnight.

You'll feel safer walking around Poland than any city in the US. That's for sure.
Last year there were 270 murders in Poland. A country of nearly 37 million people.
Last year there were 573 muders in Chicago. A city of 2.7 million people.
