I just watched “The Fabelmans” for the first time
Would you say Sam was a bit of a mama’s boy?
And that his mother was a nutcase?
Interesting how the sisters are set dressing. You barely know their names or anything about them. Nobody exists to his mother but Sam. He could have filmed literal shit and she would have been orgasmic in the audience.
Which interestingly, was exactly what Spielberg’s mother was like in the audience the night he won for “Schindler’s List” with her skullcap hairdo.

I just didn’t care by the end—about anyone

I refused to watch it because I thought the Spielberg standin was too attractive. He should have cast an ugly dork.

His mother bad mouthed his father and convinced him to hate the father when it was really her who destroyed the marriage, He and the father reconciled later in life.
This why his movies often feature a struggling single mother. (ET, Close Encounters)

I also found it interesting that he was visually obsessed by the blond HS jock to the point it almost became a different movie.

Agreed, R5. I swore that the jock was going to come out or something at the scene by the lockers at the prom.

Gawd, what self-serving dreck this movie is!
Seth Rogen was good and kind of sexy.
Jeannie Berlin!

I did like Seth Rogen in it. I just can!5 get over Paul Dano playing a teen to a middle aged dad in what seems to be the blink of an eye.
