SUPERSTAR at the Hollywood Bowl

Did anyone see this? It looks and sounds amazing.

by Anonymousreply 97August 5, 2025 5:00 AM

This is why Trump won.

by Anonymousreply 1August 2, 2025 7:24 PM

I’ve Heard nothing but raves about it

by Anonymousreply 2August 2, 2025 7:26 PM

I wouldn't go. I've already seen Superstar on stage several times. I still listen to the OC album and watch the movie. That's good enough.

by Anonymousreply 3August 2, 2025 7:31 PM

She’s playing Jesus? That makes zero sense.

by Anonymousreply 4August 2, 2025 7:42 PM

I’m not a fan of the show.

by Anonymousreply 5August 2, 2025 8:22 PM

Is Jesus an alien? What planet is Jesus from?

by Anonymousreply 6August 2, 2025 8:37 PM

Fuck off Freeper CUNT Fuck R1.

Getting to see Erivo sing live would be fucking amazing.

by Anonymousreply 7August 2, 2025 8:39 PM

R4 you’re complaining about the casting of a ROCK MUSICAL and not just any rock musical, but a rock musical based on the BIBLE, of all ridiculous texts, on the basis that it DOESN’T MAKE SENSE? Girl bye.

by Anonymousreply 8August 2, 2025 9:03 PM

"I will drink your cup of poison" kills me. What a voice. Is that why she's been starving herself? To play Jesus?

by Anonymousreply 9August 2, 2025 9:17 PM

I can see the marquee now... CYNTHIA/JESUS

by Anonymousreply 10August 2, 2025 9:26 PM

I saw it on the road when I was a kid. I don't remember much about except being distracted by the beauty of a guy named Patrick Jude.

In my memory he was Jesus in Boston, but I looked him up and on Broadway he was Judas (I'm sure Patrick Jude was his real name too. No doubt in my mind.)

I was still young enough to think it would be a cool thing to meet him after the show and get his autograph, which I did. There was a small crowd clamoring for his signature.

I remember he seemed kind of annoyed about the whole thing

I think I still have my autographed ticket stub somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 11August 2, 2025 9:30 PM

I prefer it as the hippy dippy musical from the concept album and the movie.

by Anonymousreply 12August 2, 2025 9:30 PM

Josh Gad will return for Sundays performance.

by Anonymousreply 13August 2, 2025 9:33 PM

LOVE HER!

by Anonymousreply 14August 2, 2025 9:35 PM

Nothing featuring Cynthia Erivo “looks amazing.”

by Anonymousreply 15August 2, 2025 9:44 PM

Jesus wept.

by Anonymousreply 16August 2, 2025 9:51 PM

Would definitely see this. Her voice is incredible.

by Anonymousreply 17August 2, 2025 9:54 PM

I wasn’t crazy about “Wicked” but she is really good here. She sings “Gethsemane” better than John Legend who does not have the lung capacity to pull that song off.

by Anonymousreply 18August 2, 2025 10:03 PM

I have never cared much about Adam Lambert, but he is killing Judas' songs. So hot!

by Anonymousreply 19August 2, 2025 10:50 PM

R19 Adam has a very powerful voice and he has range.

by Anonymousreply 20August 2, 2025 11:00 PM

Daddy Raul gained some weight! That’s my only note. The production sounds flawless.

by Anonymousreply 21August 2, 2025 11:02 PM

She's amazing, I love her.

by Anonymousreply 22August 3, 2025 1:12 AM

First, Cynthia defied gravity. She held space. Now, she walks on water as the King of the Jews. What CAN'T she do?

by Anonymousreply 23August 3, 2025 1:20 AM
She’s playing Jesus? That makes zero sense

As much sense as Audra McDonald play Rose in Gypsy

by Anonymousreply 24August 3, 2025 1:20 AM

That pic is very Nosferatu

by Anonymousreply 25August 3, 2025 1:21 AM

It looks like she has a ring around her skull at some points and I thought it was maybe an indentation from the crown of thorns but that doesn’t happen until after that song.

by Anonymousreply 26August 3, 2025 1:24 AM
R9 "I will drink your cup of poison" kills me. What a voice.

It’s an amazing performance.

by Anonymousreply 27August 3, 2025 1:53 AM
As much sense as Audra McDonald play Rose in Gypsy

I love it when something that seem to makes sense becomes an incredible experience, like Audra as Rose is

by Anonymousreply 28August 3, 2025 2:07 AM

Any chance it’ll move to NYC?

Erivo is an incredible vocalist

by Anonymousreply 29August 3, 2025 2:07 AM

Had no idea Adam Lambert was in this too!

by Anonymousreply 30August 3, 2025 2:10 AM

It should be at least filmed by Netflix or HBO

by Anonymousreply 31August 3, 2025 2:10 AM

I have nothing against this woman, but I swear I thought it was Lord of the Rings’ Gollum at the mic 🎤.

by Anonymousreply 35August 3, 2025 2:59 AM

Has Adam stuffed his crotch in those leather (pleather?) trousers? Is that HUUUUUUUGE ass natural?

by Anonymousreply 36August 3, 2025 3:03 AM

I find everything about Cynthia too put on, too affected and studied. Including her soi disant astonishing voice.

by Anonymousreply 37August 3, 2025 3:09 AM

R37, I agree but still love what she can do with a song

by Anonymousreply 38August 3, 2025 3:11 AM

Reboot it and bring it to Broadway for 6 months ...I'm sure they would make a killing on tickets

by Anonymousreply 39August 3, 2025 4:08 AM

Really not sure about these costumes, Raul in particular.

by Anonymousreply 40August 3, 2025 4:31 AM

Adam ought to do a Broadway musical. He has the voice for it and he can act.

by Anonymousreply 41August 3, 2025 4:35 AM

R41, it’s a lot of work

by Anonymousreply 42August 3, 2025 4:39 AM

She’s a great performer

by Anonymousreply 43August 3, 2025 4:40 AM

She’s the new Audra.

by Anonymousreply 44August 3, 2025 5:02 AM
Adam ought to do a Broadway musical.

Like the six-month run he recently completed as the Emcee in [italic]Cabaret[/italic] R41?

by Anonymousreply 45August 3, 2025 5:04 AM

I saw the movie when I was 11 and it made an indelible impression. Absolutely can't stand any deviation from the soundtrack, which I know by heart.

by Anonymousreply 46August 3, 2025 8:06 AM

r46 MARY!

by Anonymousreply 47August 3, 2025 8:20 AM

I can understand where R46 is coming from. I also feel that way about JFC and “Godspell” also which has changed the tempos and pulled away from its roots in more recent revivals -and I really hate when they change the sound of “By My Side”.

by Anonymousreply 48August 3, 2025 9:50 AM

*JCS

by Anonymousreply 49August 3, 2025 9:50 AM

R7 Exactly. R1 can fuck right off. There have always been popular entertainers polarizing to flyover.

Trump won because the stupid Biden administration tried to pull a con. Regular guys deduced, well at least this one prick whom I’ve known since I was first grader in the 90s or since my first honeymoon in 1983, isn’t completely full of shit. Plain and simple.

by Anonymousreply 50August 3, 2025 10:14 AM

r50, I'm sure your incoherent post sounds better in the original German.

by Anonymousreply 51August 3, 2025 10:18 AM

R51 Truth hurts doesn’t it? Bernie Sanders warned us about the sinister nature of the democratic establishment.

And yes I still love the Obamas and Carters and will continue to vote pragmatically, ie vote for this cunts.

by Anonymousreply 52August 3, 2025 10:22 AM

R50, what the hell are you even trying to say?

by Anonymousreply 53August 3, 2025 11:10 AM

Thank you, r53.

If I could make out what you were trying to say, r52, I might agree with you, but I doubt it.

by Anonymousreply 54August 3, 2025 11:16 AM

I had no idea John Stamos had such a voice. Oy!

by Anonymousreply 55August 3, 2025 2:14 PM

That role of Pilate is thankless. The way it has to be sung would shred anybody’s vocal cords. I thought the actor in the film would lose his voice on camera.

This is Patti LuPine’s gripe against ALW for the shrieking he requires in his songs.

by Anonymousreply 56August 3, 2025 2:33 PM

R44, Audra can wipe the floor with Cynthia as an actress.

Erivo isn't a terrible actress, but she isn't a gifted one either, and she has no grasp of the vital importance of NOT always being earnest. Her voice is very perfect at any pitch and any degree of power, which is handy if you're playing Jesus, but maybe not so great if you're trying to convey the complexities of an imperfect character.

She sang Gethsemane with unusual strength and yet note-perfect, but it is a one-sided debate with God in which Jesus goes through the stages of grief. I got that from Ian Gillan on the concept album, but I didn't get the distinct mood shifts from Erivo. Didn't feel like I was travelling from one side of the issue to the other. Just my opinion, of course.

by Anonymousreply 57August 3, 2025 2:44 PM

Let's hear Audra sing " Gethsemane."

by Anonymousreply 58August 3, 2025 2:49 PM

r46 has stated her boundaries!

by Anonymousreply 59August 3, 2025 2:49 PM
I had no idea John Stamos had such a voice. Oy!

He was channeling Uncle Jesse.

by Anonymousreply 60August 3, 2025 2:53 PM

This is still why Trump won.

by Anonymousreply 61August 3, 2025 2:59 PM

I just explained that Audra wouldn't sing it as well, R58, because the role is perfect for Erivo's perfect voice: but she'd act it better.

by Anonymousreply 62August 3, 2025 3:05 PM

I loved Cynthia Erivo's Aretha Franklin a lot more than Jennifer Hudson's version. I thought she was remarkable.

by Anonymousreply 63August 3, 2025 3:08 PM
Bernie Sanders warned us about the sinister nature of the democratic establishment.

Bernie Sanders destroyed the "democratic establishment" because his "specialness" was ignored by adults writing actual legislation and devoted himself with Russia's help to destroy Hillary Clinton and get Trump elected while enriching himself with millions.

How on earth does any sentient adult not see this fact?

by Anonymousreply 64August 3, 2025 3:16 PM

When did Superstar become just another Broadway musical?

by Anonymousreply 65August 3, 2025 3:23 PM

This is amazing.

by Anonymousreply 66August 3, 2025 3:33 PM

I can't believe Cynthia Erivo retains her talon-like fingernails for this role. At least she's rid herself of the creepy extenders and adornments she was wearing last winter.

The whole thing looks pretty vulgar, but I do have to admit it would be fun to watch her be crucified.

by Anonymousreply 67August 3, 2025 3:34 PM

I loved the clips from this show and would love to see a video of the full production. I, especially, like Adam Lambert singing the old tunes with his impeccable rock voice. He looked stunning dressed in silver and black leather with his big bottom, puffed up lips and Maybelline eyes prancing away on the stage like the Queen he is. A sexy Judas, I must say.

I am grateful they didn't change the he/him lyrics when referring to Jesus to she/her, or worse, they/them. I really don't think sex is important with this piece and applaud the creative team for casting Cynthia who sings this role so well. I could listen to this CD every Easter, while dreaming of Adam.

by Anonymousreply 68August 3, 2025 3:36 PM

Lambert rocks " Damned for All Time." The real star of the shjow.

by Anonymousreply 72August 3, 2025 5:06 PM

Every predictions website has her in fourth or fifth place, r72. But we will see.

Rose Byrne is at the top of everyone’s list

by Anonymousreply 73August 3, 2025 5:32 PM

Byrne ain't getting an Oscar for a mid comedy.

by Anonymousreply 74August 3, 2025 5:45 PM

I love the Erivo critics. Stay consistent, grannies. Never change!

by Anonymousreply 75August 3, 2025 5:48 PM

R57 Oh please Eviro is a much better actress than Audra. Audra might be a fine theater actress but I’ve seen her guest star in television shows and police procedurals. She is ok, a bit above average but not great.

by Anonymousreply 76August 3, 2025 5:49 PM

Have you seen Erivo in Luther?

by Anonymousreply 77August 4, 2025 4:05 AM

Just saw it tonight and it was fantastic! For me the standout was Soo. So effortless! Adam was a close second but Erivo killed Gethsemene. Chills!!! So glad I got to see it and be reminded that it’s actually a pretty strong show.

r73 Rose Byrne is at the top for which movie? I'm asking sincerely since I really like her a lot, but I've only seen her in a couple of things.

by Anonymousreply 80August 4, 2025 11:14 AM

^ Rose Byrne's performance in "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You" may earn her an Oscar nomination in 2026, according to reports from the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals.

by Anonymousreply 81August 4, 2025 11:32 AM

r81 thanks!

by Anonymousreply 82August 4, 2025 12:23 PM

I like Cynthia, but I can not stand Esparza or his singing, so, no, I wouldn't see this.

by Anonymousreply 83August 4, 2025 12:35 PM

Thanks, no.

I do not need this.

by Anonymousreply 84August 4, 2025 12:41 PM

No. Only green. Duh

by Anonymousreply 91August 4, 2025 9:23 PM

Let’s make this thread about me. I made my Broadway debut in the 2000 revival and ALW told us we were the best rock singers in the country. Highlight of my life. Getting cast was the best news I’ve ever received. I’ll never forget it.

by Anonymousreply 92August 5, 2025 12:15 AM

That production was shite. Horrible.

by Anonymousreply 93August 5, 2025 12:41 AM
