Their other four restaurants will remain open.
[Quote] The family said they will instead focus on their four remaining Paula Deen's Family Kitchen locations in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; and Branson, Missouri, which they will visit Aug. 8.

I stopped there for novelty’s sake a year or two ago on a roadtrip that took me through Savannah. It was awful and most everything looked and tasted like it came from a can.

I ate at one! It's ok. You order these dishes that are big enough for the whole family to share and they come out and they keep refilling them.
You're not allowed to take any leftovers home.

I've been there a couple of times, long ago. The second time I was there was only because I had guests who really wanted to go, even though I told them it was not that good. They found out. The first thing I noticed was that many of the vegetables served were obviously canned. The fried okra (which I am passionate about when it's cooked properly) was burned to a crisp. The place relied on tourist trade since the locals soured on her and her restaurant long ago. She had to close the restaurant her dumb brother ran years ago. Frankly if she up and moved to a city where one of her remaining restaurants is located no one in Savannah would shed a tear. From all I've heard I think Paula is an old woman now (78) and checked out long ago, and has basically left everything up to her sons. Jamie is talented & smart, Bobby is a fraud with zero know-how in the restaurant industry.
I haven't paid close attention to the tourist numbers in town lately. At first sight it appears they haven't decreased noticeably. So I don't know how much the current issues with Trump's BS has caused this. Frankly, I think it's just a long time coming. From all I've heard I think Paula checked out long ago and has basically left everything up to her sons. Jamie is talented & smart, Bobby is a dope who would be working as a fry-cook somewhere if it wasn't for her mother.

About 20 years ago, my brother had a job interview in Savannah and we took him out to lunch afterwards. It was the height of “Lady and Sons” fame before all the scandals.
It was pretty terrible. As someone said above, everything seemed mushy and canned.
My brother remarked that the food reminded him of our grandmother’s cooking, and that was true enough. Our grandmother was always said to be some great cook, but her food was pretty terrible.
She was also a hateful bitch.

Years back, a poster who claimed to know Katy Mixon said she claimed Bobby is gay. This was just after Katy and Bobby broke up. It wasn’t long after he was with a fresh, young beard getting married and pumping out kids.

I knew Paula was a fraud many years ago. On her show she was doing a segment out at Fort Pulaski, a famous Civil War fort out on the way to Tybee island. She was demonstrating how they made "hoe cakes" back in the day when they literally cooked them on a shovel. She took out the shovel and then like a fool she sprayed Pam all over the shovel before pouring cooking oil on top of the Pam and held it over the fire to heat the oil up. I was literally screaming at the TV "WHY THEY FUCK DO YOU NEED TO SPRAY PAM ON THE SHOVEL YOU DUMB BITCH - DID YOU THINK THE COOKING OIL IS GOING TO STICK!!!".

Even the Neely's told Food Network Paula needed some diversity training. This is an early example of Paula's loose lip. She was on the Today show and a staffer was trying to correct something out of camera. Paula freaked out and gleefully asked "is he from this country?"

[quote]R29 My favorite dish was the butter sandwich — three sticks of butter in between two thick slices of all-butter French pound cake, drizzled with melted butter.
Those starter sandwiches were indeed delicious, but I myself loved the simplicity and continental charm of the Butter Fondue - cubes of frozen butter dipped on long pretzel sticks into a fragrant sauce of warm melted butter and white wine.
Unbeatable!

What I’ll miss is the Paula Parlors behind some of the restaurants, where you could get butter beauty treatments. A pure butter rinse to make blonde hair sparkle, butter buffs for cuticles and dry elbows, butter facials to moisten complexions and make them shine…
Those shops are in danger of being shut down due to a lot of slip and falls. Especially in the final hose down line.
If people would just keep their flip flops on those wouldn’t happen.

An early exposure I had to Ms. Deen was a holiday show where she made trifle.
Now, this is a traditional English recipe that layers brandy sprinkled sponge or pound cake (that’s then spread with preserves) with custard and whipped cream. You might do little variations, like add some berries or slivered almonds, but that’s basically it.
Well! Paula apparently never heard that because she used Coolwhip and chocolate sauce and threw in a bunch of crushed candy bars.
It looked disgusting.

[quote] her stuff isn't bad
Most of her 'stuff' is nothing more than typical southern home cooking that most any southerner who had a good cook in the family grew up on. Nothing she ever presented was original to her. And one thing I can tell you is that all of her fancier dishes were dishes dreamed up by Food Network food stylists. They taught her the process of making them and she then went on camera acting like she'd been cooking and eating those dishes all her life. Fraud from the word go. I can guarantee you until she stared on TV she'd never even heard of shrimp & grits before. Nor has any southerner until they were created by some restaurant chef. So many of the so-called 'classic southern dishes' you've seen on TV food shows were just creations of TV food stylists. Real classic southern cooking is simple and cooked with lard, fat back, and the parts of pigs most people wouldn't eat if their lives depended on it.

The times I hated her the most was when she mispronounced common kitchen items. And if you aren't aware, the accent she used on her show was a total fake. She piled on the southern down home hick, with the "hey y'all" for TV. When she first got on TV, before she got her own show, she didn't talk like that at all. But when she would say "I'm gonna take this 'spachler' and lift this out of the pan", or "you want 2 cups of 'confectionant' sugar", I just wanted to grab her through the screen and choke her to death.
