Corporation for Public Broadcasting will shut down after Trump funding cuts

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” CPB president and CEO Patricia Harrison said in a statement. “CPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.”

Officials at the organization, which was founded more than 60 years ago, say they are focused on helping local stations figure out how to cope with sudden budget shortfalls. Harrison has warned that some stations, particularly in rural areas, will have to shut down without federal support.

Most larger stations have numerous other funding sources, including viewer and listener donations, to soften the blow dealt by Congress. Still, public media executives have warned that the interconnected system will be weakened in various ways without federal funding as a foundation.

This is concerning, but I’m not ashamed to stand with Israel and reach across the aisle to ensure that American workers and businesses can thrive under capitalism. I won’t stand for our party caving to the radical Stalinist policies of the radical left like modern public transportation or barely affordable healthcare. I hope you’ll join me and many of the most vile billionaire demons in the world in signing this letter of concern to President Drumpf (that’ll show him we can get low!) and embrace abundance.

Big city stations have many sources of revenue. Know of a station in small town, who rely on CPB for 70% of their income. The community is working class. Station may not survive on local donations.

As long as there has been a CPB, Republicans have tried to defund/terminate it for being part of the “liberal media.” Until now, even when there was a Republican President and Republican-led House and Senate, the CPB survived. Now, Trump and his MAGA acolytes “finally” killed the CPB.

This is but one example of why I think the only way Trump will no longer be President is by dying. It doesn’t matter how horrific/illegal his past and present actions have been or how ignorant/mentally ill/demented he is; he’s “finally” getting the “job” done.

A very sad situation indeed.

Will continued Canadian support help the small stations from Vermont and northern New York? Most of them are already WGBH Boston which is great.

Anglo and even many Francophone Montrealers love these stations and are large contributors during their pledge drives.

This is sad. I remember being a poor kid who was a dork. One of the only channels we had was PBS and I loved all the documentaries. They taught me more than I learned in school. Where will all the past programming go?
