The Adelson family’s Las Vegas Sands Corp no longer owns any LV properties but they still own the Review Journal

Interesting that Adelson and Murdoch media are going after Trump for his negative effect on tourism.

Lots of posts on Twitter and Tik-Tok about what a ghost town Las Vegas has become. They show pictures of empty streets and restaurants.

All those Vegas workers who voted for Trump, because of his no-tax on tips policy, are now learning that it doesn't mean much if they are no tips to tax.

Same is likely true in red Florida.

Maine is also hurting because of the Canadian boycott.

It's not just Trump. It's $50 minimum tables on a Tuesday morning.

by Anonymousreply 11August 1, 2025 2:50 PM

It seems so obvious to repeat but I will. The U.S. is not a self-contained economy. We depend on the good will and relationships with other countries, especially those with money, to sustain us—to buy our products and visit our tourist destinations. Dump has burned it all to the ground.

It’s not just tariffs, although today’s jobs report tells us they are killing us. It’s so, so much more.

by Anonymousreply 12August 1, 2025 2:53 PM

Well, yeah, that actually is mostly Trump’s fault. And the fault of the dolts, rubes, and enthusiastic sociopaths who voted for him.

by Anonymousreply 13August 1, 2025 2:54 PM

May she die poor

by Anonymousreply 14August 1, 2025 2:58 PM

I didn't know the loathsome Adelsons owned the Review Journal. Ugh, another newspaper to cross off the list as a propaganda rag.

by Anonymousreply 15August 1, 2025 3:00 PM

Miriam is an old billionaire cunt who is only interested in profits.

$200Million in profits that went directly to Trump.

I wonder what would have happened if NV raised the Casino Tax and directly invested in NEVADANS.

Fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 16August 1, 2025 3:02 PM

Still a cunt.

The whole "no tax on tips" thing is pushed by the restaurant industry plants.

Is the horrid cunt still trying to move the Mavericks to Vegas?

by Anonymousreply 20August 1, 2025 11:33 PM

Miriam Adelson--the old Jew Las Vegas cunt who donated $100 million to Trump's presidential campaign so that Trump would allow Israel to ethnically cleanse, commit genocide and take over the West Bank and Gaza from the Palestinians.

Yes, the old Jew cunt is paying Trump and Netanyahu to steal land that does not belong to Israel and kill Palestinians.

by Anonymousreply 21August 1, 2025 11:39 PM

A friend of mine keeps suggesting Vegas as a vacation destination. It's always her go-to place. I LOATHE IT and tell her no way. I went once back when it was still somewhat affordable but even then I was throwing $20s at every turn. It was neat to see but I would never go back.

by Anonymousreply 22August 1, 2025 11:46 PM

I'm a foodie snob in some ways. But ... one of the better Indian restaurants I've been to was in Vegas.

by Anonymousreply 23August 2, 2025 12:02 AM

I’ve heard Gen Zed is not so interested in gambling or drinking, so Vegas is going to have to sort itself out in top of no foreign visitors wanting to set foot in this horrible country.

by Anonymousreply 24August 2, 2025 12:08 AM

R22, I've lived in Vegas for 40 years.

My advice, if the economy tanks and there is a shitty Christmas, the week after Christmas and New Year's is the best time to see what bargains are to be had. Vegas cannot be seen to be a ghost town on NYE.

by Anonymousreply 25August 2, 2025 1:07 AM

Wow, r25.

Hated here at the good old DL or not, I've been looking into going to Jennifer Lopez's New Years Eve show at The Colosseum at Ceasar's Palace.

Flight, room and tix might be at the lowest they'll ever be.

Poor Jennifer. Maybe her tix will take a price chop. Again.

by Anonymousreply 26August 2, 2025 1:17 AM

My friend Julie says Miriam Adelson is a CUNT!!!

by Anonymousreply 27August 2, 2025 1:47 AM

Goddamned, loathe some, ragged out rancid cunt!

She got what she voted for. I hope that hateful old cunt chokes on it.

by Anonymousreply 28August 2, 2025 4:45 AM

Gen Z isn’t interested in anything, r24.

by Anonymousreply 29August 2, 2025 6:20 AM

There are casinos EVERYWHERE now, Las Vegas has also outpriced itself. You could take a trip to Monaco or Nice France for the same price now and the men are hotter.

by Anonymousreply 30August 2, 2025 8:07 AM

I used to love Las Vegas and have been many times. The last trip was so disappointing. While you certainly don't go there to save money, I was shocked at how quickly my budgeted daily amounts disappeared. And not just on gambling; everything was stratospherically expensive and the value became a point of diminishing returns. It just wasn't a fun way to spend money. I never understood how everyone was so drunk when it takes forever to get a drink and even then they're junk. It might be the whole industry -- I went to Encore in Boston once and a Tito's rocks was $19.00.

That said, I'm glad that that dreadful woman is not happy.

by Anonymousreply 31August 2, 2025 12:19 PM

r28, she did not vote for it, she bought it.

Miriam Adelson is a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 32August 2, 2025 1:14 PM

Vegas began pivoting toward foreign tourists back in the 90s.

The Florida theme parks have gotten dependent on them, as well, and rising ticket prices make it difficult for domestic tourists to replace them.

by Anonymousreply 33August 2, 2025 1:17 PM

[quote]Gen Z isn’t interested in anything, [R24].

Social media, phones, becoming an influencer...................

by Anonymousreply 34August 2, 2025 1:20 PM

R29, I’m far from Gen Z but that’s a load of shit. They definitely aren’t interested in Vegas so much. In fact, they’re not interested in many Boomer/Gen X things. From what I can see from my nephews, they value travel quite a bit, they’re away almost every weekend, going to varied locations that frankly never even occurred to me. They also go abroad frequently—I went abroad exactly twice in my first 30 years of life. Of course, they love video games and social media as well (but then again, so do I).

by Anonymousreply 35August 2, 2025 1:20 PM

[QUOTE]but even then I was throwing $20s at every turn. It was neat to see but I would never go back.

Kevin, is that you?

by Anonymousreply 36August 2, 2025 1:20 PM

[quote]I’ve heard Gen Zed is not so interested in gambling or drinking, so Vegas is going to have to sort itself out in top of no foreign visitors wanting to set foot in this horrible country.

Have Ursa and Non also commented on visiting Vegas?

by Anonymousreply 37August 2, 2025 1:33 PM

R25, do you know Davida?

by Anonymousreply 38August 2, 2025 1:39 PM

I’ve been to Las Vegas three times, from the UK. The first 2 times I went, it seemed pretty affordable. The hotel prices were fine, and since I am not much of a gambler. I visited with a few friends who were gamblers, so I’d splurge some cash on the roulette machines, but apart from that I treated it as a beachless beach holiday, spending some time lying at the pool, doing some shopping and taking some trips out to the desert. I really enjoyed it.

However, on my last trip, post-Covid, the prices were really out of control. My hotel slapped a huge resort(?) fee onto my bill at checkout, which was a really unpleasant surprise and even restaurants and bars were really expensive.

And I have to say, American politics recently has made me see the country differently. Why would I visit somewhere which might decide to deny me entry because I hate Trump?

by Anonymousreply 39August 2, 2025 2:03 PM

The Gen Z that does gamble does it online, no need for them to go to Vegas.

Anyway, Vegas is like most cruises - trashy, lowbrow, and filled with MAGA. And now that it's so expensive, you can't even claim go for a cheap weekend, so instead of going to see fake European monuments, just go see the real thing. That way, you don't have to cross the border and worry about your phone being searched by some MAGA crazy customs agent and there's less chance of being surrounded by fat, gun-toting rednecks.

by Anonymousreply 40August 2, 2025 2:57 PM

Gen Z does everything online. Date, work, have sex. They're homebound antisocial weirdos. We're fucked when they turn 50.

But what will be worse will be Gen Alpha. They'll grow up as AI natives and will think it's stupid to come up with your own thoughts and ideas when the computer can do it for you.

by Anonymousreply 41August 2, 2025 3:41 PM

Vegas will start loosening up again on cheaper rooms, etc. once the Trump Depression fully kicks in. But long term damage may have been done. Why go there and get gouged when you have casino resorts in your home state?

by Anonymousreply 42August 2, 2025 4:02 PM

[quote]everything was stratospherically expensive

Did you stay at the Stratosphere?

by Anonymousreply 43August 2, 2025 6:36 PM

It's a mixed bag. Convention attendance and hotel occupancy is down but gambling revenue is up. Also, local casino Red Rock just did its best quarter in its history.

Los Angeles will soon get another choice when Hard Rock opens in Tejon, south of Bakersfield. The local casinos like Yaamava and Morongo are still packed and since California are by far Vegas' #1 clients, charging for parking is just another shot to the joints for Vegas.

However, they will not lower prices. That's a given. You will get bargains, maybe comps will loosen up for gamblers. However, right after the pandemic, Vegas offered bargain rates to all properties. You guessed it. "Undesirables" flooded the hotels and convinced regulars that Vegas was even more unsafe.

by Anonymousreply 44August 2, 2025 7:43 PM

I had to go to LV for a business conference. Had to. 1st day I drove out to Red Rock Canyon to hike a bit. Beautiful.

Later I tried to find a cowboy poetry reading that was going on downtown, but I got lost.

Another day I drove to Hoover Dam, where some rando approached me and said he'd rented a car like mine but they didn't give him a turbo and how did I get a turbo, apparently he was in line behind me at the rental place.

I did enjoy being able to smoke cigarettes inside everywhere, before I quit. That town gives me the creeps, like Desert Hot Springs.

by Anonymousreply 45August 2, 2025 8:49 PM

FAFO, you dumb bitch. What did the fucking billionaires think would happen if they elected a tariff-happy racist idiot?

by Anonymousreply 46August 2, 2025 9:44 PM

When a casino starts charging for parking, it is no longer in the gaming business.

by Anonymousreply 47August 2, 2025 9:49 PM

Miriam remains a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 48August 2, 2025 9:52 PM

It costs too fucking much. Hotels are expensive and feature high resort fees. Food and drink prices are outrageous. The entertainment consists of has-beens like Janet Jackson and Katy Perry. International visitors aren’t coming because of the Trump shitshow, and Americans have casinos much closer to home now.

by Anonymousreply 49August 2, 2025 10:06 PM

[quote]Las Vegas is dead. I have never seen the parking garage at the airport this empty and I did not see another person until I made it to the TSA PreCheck line in the terminal.

Ha ha R43. The pun was unintentional. I stayed at Red Rocks, however.

by Anonymousreply 51August 3, 2025 1:04 PM

Maybe Vegas is dead because it’s 120 degrees in the desert? Don’t people usually wait until fall to go there? It’s like Miami, this s the off season.
