Which of today’s singers have the most disgusting, annoying, grating voice?
I think Tate McRae has one of the most grating, most disgusting sounding voices out there right now. It’s so irritating to listen to! She sounds like a fucking Rugrat!! What Powers That Be told her that that kind of singing was talented, sexy, amazing, etc?
Another new singer that sounds HORRIBLE is Mariah the Scientist in her song “Burning Blue.” She sounds like she has a cold, like her nose is plugged up, and she doesn’t enunciate. She sounds terrible! Absolutely terrible and annoying!
People used to say Britney was a horrible singer. But these girls make Britney sound like Whitney!
Please! Make singing pretty again! Make singing clear again! Make singing rich again! Make singing powerful again!
Where are the Karen Carpenters, the Ann Wilsons, the Pat Benatars?
At least we have Chappell Roan.

If male singers also count, then Bad Bunny.
He sounds retarded.

R2, she does on her original stuff, but I like her newer songs like “What Was I Made For?” and “Birds of a Feather.”

Benson Boone. Too much straining.
I’m still waiting for him to pass that hardened stool.

Maia Reficco - sounds like a high schooler. Ban voice goes along well with her teenager style.

OP, you had me until “ At least we have Chappell Roan.”
I’m assuming you’re kidding.

Benson Boone. I hate this warbling “sensitive” style that these white boys who make chick music do now. The songs all sound the same and are designed for wedding announcement tiktoks and cringe social media videos like that. When he “belts” that ridiculous falsetto it just makes me laugh. It sounds godawful and cartoonish. Shitty overproduced production too. Probably sounds weak as fuck without all the help.

Tate McRae can dance a little bit. But her voice sounds like she's trying not to move her lips when she sings.

I said that when rap/hip-hop became a thing, lo these many years ago.
That didn't change anything either.

Taint McCrae looks goofy when she dances. I don't know if it's her body proportions or because always wearing stripper heels. I suppose some people just have that natural goof factor.

The young gays with their little mullets love to compare Tate McRae to Britney.
She’s more Willa Ford.

This wave of new female singers who mimic Billie Eilish and sing in those mushy mouthed, nasal, whispery voices.

Japanese Breakfast
Just awful. She can NOT sing, and she is an Indie darling these days.

Heard Japanese Breakfast interviewed on XMU and she was as insufferable as her voice.

Not exactly among "today's singers", but I just can't stand 1) Ke$ha 2) John Cougar Mellencamp.

R3 to be fair, Courtney has always had a rough voice. In the early days, she could also be quite nasally/whiny, but I still responded to her singing because it was emotive and naturally loaded with pain, rage, and sadness. She also could scream-sing in a way that few other women did. If a vocalist can trigger an emotional response in me, I consider them a worthy singer even if the technique is bad, improper, or even ugly. Courtney is a bit froggy these days, but that's not surprising given the decades of screaming and the tens of thousands of packs of cigarettes she's smoked. She still has pretty good tone IMO and I still find her singing emotive in a different way.
As far as current singers go—and I know people will hate me—Phoebe Bridgers. I cannot fucking bear her thin, precious voice, and I find her music painfully boring. Absolutely abysmal. She is one of the most overrated artists working today.

I didn't care for her material, but Karen Carpenter had a beautiful voice. Anne Wilson simply screeched. OP has rather odd taste.
Most of the contemporary singers, esp. the women just sound alike to me, analogous to listening to polkas.

I just took a listen to Tate McRae. Yeah… gimmicky. She does that toddler-enunciation thing (“whyoo-wunna-hoit-mee?”) with a constant catch in her throat that’s meant to give emotion/vulnerability vibes. Autotune is her best friend and obvious crutch.
The songs are very catchy and slick and rich-sounding though. She clearly teams up with some of the better producers working the Gen Z market.

R26, Ann Wilson doesn’t “screech.” What are you talking about?
