[quote] The White House State Ballroom will be a much-needed and exquisite addition of approximately 90,000 total square feet of innately designed and carefully crafted space
What do you suppose “innately designed “ is supposed to mean?

A $200 million ballroom for Von Shitzinpants to stand in place doing the double jerkoff dance to YMCA?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 31, 2025 8:38 PM |
It doesn’t look bad but the optics of this while we throw millions off Medicaid is atrocious. Orange cunt.

Vat do you theenk of my design?
And all of you gay boys said my architecture degree was fake. Tsk. Tsk.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 31, 2025 8:45 PM |
It won’t actually cost $200 million. It is replacing the East Wing which was built to hide construction of an underground emergency bunker. The costs of integrating the ballroom with the underground complex will be born by taxpayers. Bet it ends up costing more than a billion.

Did they ever use the tennis pavillion Melania designed?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 31, 2025 8:48 PM |
Of course it will, R5. Trump's stooges are running the GAO, so all kinds of Trump personal bills will be paid out of this fund, including renovations and repairs at Mar-a-Lago.
It's the way Trump operates.

by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 31, 2025 8:51 PM |
He claims he and “other patriots” are paying for it, but that excludes the integration with the “secret” underground complex.

by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 31, 2025 9:16 PM |
It’s not TOO bad. However, the main house is in the Palladian neoclassical style and the renderings look more Beaux-Arts to me. The arched windows don’t share any design continuity with the original mansion unless you count the lunettes in the second floor sitting rooms. I think I would have carried over the separate first and second story windows like on the mansion. The first story with pediments alternating between triangular and arched. The second story windows being unadorned. Finally I would consider adding a semicircular apse on the south facade facing the Mall with a portico of scamozzi ionic columns to draw parallels with the South Porch.

Trump is the only one who could get away with this.
Other Presidents would have been criticized for the expense and the wastefulness.
But not Trump.
People let him get away with whatever he wants. And that includes the media, who would have criticized a Democratic President for doing this, and debated it endlessly.

Hate Trump and Melania but I kind of like the tennis pavilion and the rose garden rehab. Shoot me. This is awful because it's a hotel ballroom. Mar a Largo ALSO had an original ballroom. Trump then added exactly the same style of HUGE EVENT corporate ballroom to the estate. All white and gold and horrible. This ballroom COULD be good if Trump doesn't have his tiny vulgar fingers all over the design and the sourcing. Trump's taste in decor is awful. The chandeliers are all awful. If he is the contractor who oversees them.

East Room - 200 max.
Buckingham palace 150 guests at state banquet.
Versailles Hall of Mirrors (Galerie des Glaces) ~250 seated Used for Macron’s 2017 state dinner for Putin and others. Acoustics and lighting are tricky but iconic. Orangerie - 500–1,000+ seated. When tented or partially enclosed. Massive courtyard-style venue.

Even if Trump and other donors pay for the cost of this ballroom, the US taxpayer is on the hook for the maintenance, heating and air conditioning, the security, the extra cooks, servers and cleaning staff for this room forever. Plus since it will seat 450 more guests that means 450 more expensive dinners for donors, lobbyist, the rich, Hollywood elites and sycophants invited to these huge banquets, all being wined and dined on the taxpayer dollar. They aren't going to invite you and me. It will just mean the rich have even more access to the powerful regardless of who is President.
