Sooooo happy for them! They are proud and not ashamed at all.
And I hope I’m not mistaken, but I believe that Drew’s vocal is that DL fave LOVE IS IN THE AIR

They are mostly happy looking. They are far too old for fake smiles. However the two crpytkeepers at 3:06, next to the young black man, gave me start. Good bless them too, they look like grizzled survivors.

R1 - agreed - every gay man over 55 is a survivor in my book. Not just from AIDS.

Shut up about the AIDS. My god, it is 2025. Drugs leaving you undetectable have been available for 29 years.

I hope every one had a great time. It looks like fun.

I think more of these older men need to be worried about skin cancer than HIV.

Those are two of the worst go go dancers I've seen in my life.

Let's play "Count the Dataloungers"!

R3 - so I take you never had to live through the 80s and 90s. All of these guys did. They survived it. They are survivors - so suck on it.
Nobody is talking or insinuating about them getting AIDS today - that's all you in your head.
Weirdo.

“Nobody is talking or insinuating about them getting AIDS today” Then why was it even mentioned in the first place?
I was there then and I’m here now. Take a hike.

R13 - take your meds. Because they survived decades of discrimination and also the 15 years of AIDS. They are survivors.
Not sure why you have a problem with that - but really, you need to increase your doses. Or put down the alcohol and go to bed.

Outside of a cattle drive, I've never seen so much leather.
But guys dance on; you've earned your place in the sun.
Drew has a nice voice.

I think they all look bad, withered from hard living. If these were the only partner options. I'd go straight.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 30, 2025 3:13 AM |
I wrote R1 and when I wrote survivors I meant It in the same way as mentioned above. The two rally grizzled specimens at 3:06 look like gays who have survived a LOT to make it to this age, at that pool party. Looks like some hard road behind them. R2 understood immediately. R3 - you're saying more about yourself than anything or anyone else.

r2 and r17, thank you.
Partner and I visited friends who retired to Palm Springs a few times to see if we might do the same, but this is pretty much what we saw. Not our scene. It got tedious, as did the oppressive heat. Too many Pickled Old Queens drinking themselves to death by the pool.

R18 - most retiree places are the same. I think you have a skewed view of PS - you can make your own life and there are a lot of options. Not saying that scene doesn't exist, but it's not all that scene.
Now for the June-Sept heat - it IS bad. Although for some reason this year, it's been mild.
For me, it's only a place for part-time living just because it's so small. It does get repetitive living there full-time. Maybe when I'm 70 I will have different thoughts on it.

r19 -- yes, our perception was a function of the particular friends we visited. Our first trip was in late Fall one year and was low-key. We fell in love with Joshua Tree and Mt. Jacinto and became temporarily smitten with the area. Glad you are able to enjoy it part-time. Admittedly we were projecting that we'd end up drinking ourselves to death there. Ended up retiring to a quiet hippy vibe area in Northern California, which is more our speed.
Note: Have been on DL forever. We brought a caftan and a mumu as gifts for our friends. Turns out these were added to an existing collection.

R10 I would say about 85%...some of them don't know how to use a computer machine.
