I don't live in Canada, but Trudeau always seemed to have that obnoxious trait among young-ish male politicians, where he was simultaneously brilliant and focused AND robotic and detached. He could tell you the details of housing policy in some arcane piece of legislation, and work a long shift at a homeless shelter as a PR stunt, so it was obvious he cared. But then he'd do an interview or a town hall where he'd be frosty and downright rude to people in conversation. He carries both the bounding young energy of a Kennedy and the brooding dickishness of a Nixon. And you're left to wonder if he really has any friends at all.
