I’m not so sure.
Pete Buttigieg thinks the Dems lost to Trump in ‘24 because of two words: status quo.

[quote]I’m not so sure.
Isn't that the consensus among DLers as well? That the Dems are hopelessly attached to the "business as usual" way of doing things, dating back to an America doesn't even exist anymore? I guess we'll see in the poll results.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 29, 2025 5:12 PM |
They lost because Americans are the stupidest people in the world. If one Trump presidency wasn't enough for them then fuck every dem who didn't bother to vote. There was NO excuse not to.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 29, 2025 5:15 PM |
No one is interested in his theories, TBH. He’s not going anywhere near the WH, except as another cabinet sec’y years down the line.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 29, 2025 5:16 PM |
Pete looks like a very eager beaver in OP's shot.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 29, 2025 5:38 PM |
He's not wrong but he has already been tagged irreversibly with the "status quo" label. so not sure why he's saying this.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 29, 2025 5:41 PM |
Surprised they used an old pic of him, sans beard.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 29, 2025 5:43 PM |
He is the status quo.

by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 29, 2025 5:54 PM |
Dems never offer any vision. That’s the problem with being “moderate.”
People want progressive politics. Even Trump ran promising progressive policies—cheaper healthcare, housing, food, blah blah blah. He lied of course but that’s what people responded to
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 29, 2025 5:57 PM |
We don’t hate him. We see through him…

[quote] No one is interested in his theories, TBH.
They should be. Even if you don't like him, even if you think he won't be president, it's idiotic to say "I just don't care what he thinks." He's obviously an intelligent observer who very much had an upfront seat throughout the last election.
One of the many ways we have become the stupid fucking party we are is this chronic need to believe that either somebody is perfect and destined to land in the White House next time, or worthless and useless and OMG ick, cringe, hate you, go away.

by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 29, 2025 6:15 PM |
You people just don't get it or refuse to get it.
Once again, Democrats lost the 2024 election because they were pushing open borders, DEI, CRT, and trans/nonbinary ideology.
And they continue to double down on those unpopular issues.
And now, they're openly supporting socialism, anti-Christianity, anti-Semitism, misandry, and anti-white bigotry, so expect to lose even worse in the 2026 midterms.
And, of course, they'll blame it on "the stupidity of American voters" instead of their own hubris and foolishness.
They think they're still the majority and don't realize that the pendulum has swung.
Henceforth, the country will become more and more conservative.
Democrats are so out of touch with Americans and are too busy trying to impress foreigners, mainly Europeans, who are doing the same thing over there.
But European socialism won't work in the USA and won't win them elections.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 29, 2025 6:18 PM |
Ok then.
Glad you go that off your chest.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 29, 2025 6:21 PM |
Pete and Gavin are making a far bigger splash than their competitors, so far. They have been everywhere, especially on podcasts, which helped decide the 2024 race. They could lock-up the top two primary spots by mid 2026.
Beshear has been invisible. Shapiro keeps hurting his chances every time he opens his mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 29, 2025 6:23 PM |
Be honest r15. Do you think Joe Biden was pushing open borders in 2024? Really, he wasn't doing anything about borders, no executive orders, no big bill in Congress, nothing? Nothing at all?
Also DEI, CRT (really, you may be the last person on earth who still gives a shit about CRT, even the whores in your movement have lost interest), and trans/nonbinary ideology? You honestly think Biden and Harris were more interested in talking about that than the Republicans, who were absolutely fucking obsessed with going on and on and on about those "issues"? Really?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 29, 2025 6:23 PM |
R15, WRONG! Trump won because of inflation caused by the pandemic. End of story. The same story played out in elections all over the world.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 29, 2025 6:26 PM |
The problem isn’t that Democrats don’t offer a vision. The problem is they are speaking to people using pre-Internet/social media/I Phone language. That no longer works- people as a whole have the attention span of a gnat these days, and nobody practices critical thinking. They have to reframe their language and make the concepts simple and plain.
Additionally, you have a large portion of the populace who feels victimized and aggrieved by…everyone in authority. They want someone who fights for them. Donald Trump uses plain language and acts performatively tough-it is a very appealing tactic to the voters, apparently.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 29, 2025 6:29 PM |
R17 sorry, but Newsom is going nowhere near the WH. Ain’t gonna happen. So much baggage. And not the best we’ve got.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 29, 2025 6:30 PM |
The democrats have two problems. Marketing and enforcement. They are terrible at tooting their own horn. They should have been shouting from the mountain tops about the great economy, the GDP growth, the jobs, instead of constantly trying to defend a losing position on immigration. Instead, point out they have pushed for immigration refor,m and the GOP shot it down every time.
They should have gone after Trump as well. Legally, instead of pussy footing around. The Trump case should never have gone to Aileen Cannon, and it should have been moved when it was. In short Dems need to stop being pussies.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 29, 2025 6:37 PM |
I thought we lost because the GOP successfully mischaracterized the Democratic Party as wildly impractical and used things like cancel culture to frighten moderates.
There were some viral misconceptions that worked against us. We have to own some of them.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 29, 2025 6:38 PM |
Of course TRA’s are melting down because Pete actually gave a nuanced and thought out response about the trans athlete issue.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 29, 2025 6:38 PM |
Well, now that we're back to our regularly scheduled programming of beating up Democrats, the DL deranged troll who blamed the '24 election loss on the fact that Kamala Harris wrote a nice note to Dylan Mulvaney hasn't been heard from lately.

Oh look the trans troll is triggered. Pete gave a solid response and explanation and the responses are to call him a fag, a piece of shit, cipher, right wing scumbag, transphobe etc….
The my way or the highway shit doesn’t work for this and never has. Attacking allies and labeling them as bigots will never be a good strategy, nor will it change anyone’s minds.

Why does Pete look like Mickey Mouse here? Is it the rounded haircut? Just put two ears on him.

Alfred!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 29, 2025 7:51 PM |
It's easily among the top three reasons. An other is the low information voters who get their news from social media or right wing news outlets.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 29, 2025 7:53 PM |
I watched on youtube a lgbt activist debate 25 conservatives. He expertly took all of them down but the shit they spout was amazing. This one woman kept insisting they were castrating kids and he said "Do you know how many children have been chemically castrated? zero point zero zero one and that was to save their life," and she just goes "that's not true." He had facts, they had "what they read on facebook" and would not budge from thier position.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 29, 2025 11:37 PM |
I think the two words are more: election interference
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 29, 2025 11:40 PM |
r33,If the number is zero why do they constantly insist chemical castrating drugs like lupron (eg puberty blockers) are saving trans kids lives?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 29, 2025 11:54 PM |
The democrats lost because the US is full of white deplorables who prefer to have shitty lives rather than allowing non-whites, gays, women, etc., live freely, equally and with dignity

It isn't that the Democrats were pushing these ideologies, it is that Fox News and Newsmax were. All it took was one picture from a Drag story time for children, and they could post that all day long, and scare their viewers.
Trump, in a presidential debate, claimed illegals were eating pets in Ohio. It was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in a debate. Harris (rightly) rolled her eyes, but the damage was done. They believed him because Democrats are terrible about getting out counter (or any) messaging. Putting Pete on Fox News was the smartest thing they could have done because he has a sharp wit, and they still lost.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 29, 2025 11:58 PM |
I guess they trusted that the American people were too smart to think this "they're eating the dogs..." shit was actually true. They thought "Surely no one can hear some crazy shit like this and think this guy should be trusted with the nuclear codes."
Well, they thought wrong. The American people are really that stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 30, 2025 12:07 AM |
Yes, Pete is correct. However, he’ll find that it will be impossible to get Democrats to agree that anything about the party or themselves needs correction. We can see on this thread, as we have seen over and over again, that it is beyond anathema for Democrats to acknowledge that there could be even the slightest flaw in their views or approach. It’s more unbearable to them than literally anything. The status quo will remain.
Republicans, on the other hand, appear willing to make changes to win elections. They dropped the drumbeat of trying to outright repeal Obamacare. They were against early voting in 2020 and then embraced using it to elect Trump in 2024.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 30, 2025 12:10 AM |
They lost for a lot of reasons, and most of them were preventable.
They lost because the candidate didn’t even get to start running until July, and Kamala Harris did a damn good job considering that. But it was too little, too late.
They lost because Biden should have stepped aside earlier. If he had, we could’ve had an actual primary with real debates, real competition, real momentum.
They lost because this country still has a race problem and a sexism problem, and those two things "trumped" common sense. A lot of voters who should’ve shown up just couldn’t bring themselves to vote for a Black woman. That’s not on her.
They lost because they neglected the working class. Democrats have been so focused on preserving institutions and “restoring normal” that they forgot normal wasn’t working for everybody.
And they lost because they were too attached to the status quo. Pete Buttigieg said it, and he’s right. You can’t just promise to fix what Trump broke. You have to offer something new. Something better. People aren’t voting for restoration; they’re voting for transformation. That's why Obama's message of "CHANGE" worked so well. The status quo is not what motivates people if they already have a problem with it.
