The American Diabetes Association takes millions from companies that stand to profit from our reliance on drugs. Is that affecting their guidance?
Low-carb diets work. Why does the American Diabetes Association push insulin instead?

I wish I could get off insulin, but unfortunately I have no choice. It is true that most T2s can mitigate high blood sugar with diet and exercise.

Neil, we’re a country of deaf, stupid, corn eaters.
If we can promote protein and complex carbohydrates and consistently shit on super-processed foods some of these fuckers will pay attention to their diets and take their meds in accordance with the actual blood sugar reading instead of stacking doses, or pretending they don’t have to comply.
One of my biggest beefs with diabetes and weight treatment is that nobody respects the readings and everyone involved makes excuses why the readings are off the charts.
Seriously, if we agree to diabetes or heart management, that means complying with treatment protocols. Nobody is exempt.

No idea. I know you can seriously reduce your A1C by going low carb. Of course, the problem is keeping on a low-carb diet. I'm not on insulin, but I take Metformin and more recently, Ozempic. My next checkup is in September. I'm curious to see what my A1C is now. I'm not keto, but I'm fairly low carb these days. I'm limiting my pasta, potatoes, rice, and bread intake. My problem is sugar. I eat a lot of fruit and made a tarte tatin today because I have a lot of apples on hand.

I have Type 2 diabetes - first, I took Metformin and reduced by A1C from 7.2 to 6.2 (back in the pre-diabetic range), but then my doctor suggested I go off Metformin and start taking Ozempic - while we've all read stories of celebs losing lots of weight on Ozempic and/or similar drugs, I'm one of those few people who hasn't lots a pound due to Ozempic - in fact, my A1C started to increase again (from 6.2 back to 7.2), so I've decided go off Ozempic and back on Metformin - but I should explore the low-carb diet as a long-term lifestyle change to both reduce my A1C & lose weight - since when I was younger, I was in great shape, in recent years I've gained weight (lots of factors: work long hours, aging, slowing metabolism, family genes propensity toward being overweight, et al.). I recently met with a nutritionist and have made some eating choices/changes, and so far lost 15 lbs...a solid start...but a long way to go to reconcile my "old" self with my current self.

Vegan diets work for heart disease but good luck sticking to one. Same for low carb diets. It’s not sustainable for more than a few months.

Low carb diets don't work.
Getting off processed foods does work. But carbs are extremely good for you, as in sweet potatoes, beans, legumes, whole grains, etc.
What kills people is processed foods and keto diets.

I’ve been on a low-carb diet for 12 years. Never gained a single pound back.

R7, it’s not about you. It’s type 2.

You’re a moron. Keto is used in the treatment of epilepsy.

Please, just make sure you know your dosage for any reading after meals.
I grew up with somebody who said their diabetes was “uncontrollable”. No, it was uncontrolled. And we fixed it with enough cheats to please both the patient and doctors.
Follow the rules and be honest when you fuck up. They already know and they can help you when/if you fall off the beam.

No doctor pushes insulin for type II diabetes. Type I needs insulin, they can't be helped by a change in diet.

That’s like tobacco supporting the American Lung Association.

Just hearing or reading “A1C” makes me bats. People telling others about theirs like anyone really gives a f**k. Like being introduced to someone and having them tell you their blood pressure instead of “How do you do”.

Frankly that sounds like a terrible way to spend 12 years R8.

It's a thread about fucking Type 2 diabetes, R14. Why did you even click on the thread?
Now go away, you fucking fool.
