On the plus side she can play Kim Davis in the movie about gay marriage being overturned

She actually appears to be walking fine, but it looks like she has no idea where she is and seems to be looking upward at nothing. Is it possible she's lost her eyesight?

I’m hoping she just had her eyes dilated or something like that. Whatever is going on with her depresses me as I couldn’t bear to lose my Sissy! She’s one of my all time favorite actresses and seems to be a very likable person.

I met her several times when I lived near her in Virginia. We used the same horse vet. She was so sweet every time, and would bring cookies to the vet staff, always helped with donations/fundraisers to the animal shelter near the area. She really was/is so lovely. There is no way she's over 5 ft tall, even though when I search, it says she's 5'2"

To be fair, she had just heard Jimmy Swaggart had died.

A great film. Forgotten. Underrated.

She played Michelle Williams’ mom in Dying For Sex, which aired in April, and seemed fine.

She’s 76.

She had a great career in the 70s and 80s but when the major female movie stars of that era are discussed she gets lost behind Barbra, Jane & Faye.

R15, Spacek is amazingly talented, but that’s not enough to keep yourself in the cultural conversation. She doesn’t seek publicity (she didn’t event submit herself for Emmy consideration for Dying for Sex), has lived in Virginia for decades, and turned down work if it conflicted with her family life, including Debra Winger’s role in Terms of Endearment.

That said, I agree with Bette Davis’s assessment that Sissy was the best of her generation of actresses. Her performances are so natural, it’s easy to forget she’s acting, which also leads to her being underrated — she should have at least two Oscars on her mantel.

Looks like cataract surgery. After surgery, your eyes are extremely sensitive to sunlight, even when you're wearing sunglasses.

Anorexia is hell on the body.

Sissy and Loretta had a weird relationship - “weird” in the sense that it seems odd for a celebrity to play another celebrity and then be friends.

Are there rumors Sissy was anorexic? I’ve always just thought she was naturally thin—some people have that kind of frame without starving themselves. She looks so pretty good for her age IMO

For god's sake she's walking just fine. She just seems to be being lead to the right place at some event by her handlers. She's even laughing about it. Someone up thread mentioned cataract surgery, hence the sunglasses. Sissy will be with us and working and winning awards for along time to come.

R23 I was thinking about Sissy today. I knew her in the 90s in Virginia when we worked on a project together. She used to talk about an Atkins (diet) apple pie she liked to make that had no sugar. She wasn't anorexic then, and she always ate. But she definitely ate in a spartan manner. In fact, she was the first person I knew who bought salad greens in a bag. She is one of the nicest people I've ever known, and so is Jack Fiske, her husband. I'm sorry we lost touch.
