Wait… Amazon Music is actually a good music streaming app!

I’ve been using Spotify for a good 15 years and over the last year started using Apple Music only because my sister has the family plan and added me to it so I get it for free.

I got a free 3 month trial to Amazon Music (don’t mock me but I didn’t know they had an app) and its interface is better than Apple Music and they have more music overall too. Also, the songs sound better and louder on Amazon Music for some reason.

I’m shocked. It’s the closest to Spotify than any of the music streamers.

I’m actually liking it and have been using it more often lately.

Do they have classical? Opera?

by Anonymousreply 1July 29, 2025 1:02 AM

They do have classical and while not an opera genre section they do have many opera playlists

I like Tidal but the fact that it doesn't have an equalizer annoys me.

by Anonymousreply 3July 29, 2025 1:12 AM

I use YouTube music because I initially had Google music, which was such a good app and interface. YT music sucks. I wondered if Amazon is better and if it works with Android Auto.

by Anonymousreply 4July 29, 2025 1:13 AM

Amazon music is my primary music app because I’m a prime subscriber and it’s free.

It’s not bad. It has the benefits OP mentions. And yes it has all genres of music.

But it’s a bit spotty. Like just today I was listening to music and wanted to hear a song by Eerie Wanda called “I Am Over Here,” a great little tune. But Amazon doesn’t have it. So I had to leave the app and find it on YouTube.

Also they periodically purge your listening history for no apparent reason, and that great song you listened to two months ago, but can’t remember its name? Fuck you, we wiped your history.

But overall it’s fine.

R4 they usually have free trials. Try it.

R3 I used to use Tidal because I got it for free with Sprint. When they became TMobile they dropped it.

Plus it was actually better when Jay-Z owned it.

by Anonymousreply 6July 29, 2025 1:28 AM

R5 when you use it with Prime it has a few limitations I read.

by Anonymousreply 7July 29, 2025 1:30 AM

I'm like R4. Graduated into YT music. I do like it for extended dj sets and mixes that users post.

Do other apps have that?

by Anonymousreply 8July 29, 2025 1:32 AM

I'm not giving any more money to the bald fascist bootlicker and his inflatable sex doll.

by Anonymousreply 9July 29, 2025 1:32 AM

R7, are you saying there’s some higher level of membership?

I thought the whole point of Amazon music was to keep people subscribing to prime. Every year when my sub comes up, and I think (for about a microsecond) about not re-upping, I remember I have my music set up through my prime membership.

by Anonymousreply 10July 29, 2025 1:41 AM

Amazon Music Unlimited requires an extra fee on top of Prime.

Amazon Music Unlimited offers a larger music library, including higher quality audio options and more features than Amazon Music Prime.

by Anonymousreply 11July 29, 2025 1:47 AM

I've found Deezer to be an excellent option too. Tried Youtube Music after Google Play Music was shut down, it was an absolute fucking shitshow, worst Android app ever. Went to Deezer, never looked back, terrific range of music and reasonably priced - and unlimited downloads into your phone too which is very useful. And they pay artists better than most of the other streaming providers

R1 I think Deezer has a reasonable range of classical and opera music going by comments on the user forums there are a number of users who seem to be happy with the range of music they are finding on there. I have found the range of country and southern rock available on there to be unrivalled, better than anything else I've seen

by Anonymousreply 12July 29, 2025 1:58 AM

I’ll have to check out Deezer!! I have been on Apple Music since the Garden of Eden, and I still love it even now. I refuse to give any more money OR my data to any of the tech bros. I’m off my Prime Account now because I hate Bezos so much, and I shopped on his site all the fucking time, lots of money I will no longer give to that company.

I don’t like Spotify or Prime, and YouTube’s ads are out of control, even if you upgrade, so I no longer enjoy album playlists off of there.

by Anonymousreply 13July 29, 2025 4:47 AM

I've been avoiding this for years - but maybe I should give it a shot since it's free.

Thanks OP - I wouldn't have tried it without this thread.

by Anonymousreply 14July 29, 2025 4:59 AM

I use Amazon Music Unlimited and one thing I don’t like about it is that sometimes a song you like that they have is a different version from the one you’re used to. I don’t understand why they do that.

by Anonymousreply 15July 29, 2025 5:22 AM

I use YouTube Music because it includes ad-free YouTube. I've had it since it was Google Play Music, and somehow Google is still charging me the original 7.99 rate. I like Apple Music for lossless and classical, but it's not worth paying more for it. I'm also using a Spotify trial, but I dislike the interface.

by Anonymousreply 16July 29, 2025 5:40 AM

I really miss Napster.

by Anonymousreply 17July 29, 2025 5:50 AM

I still use Pandora and love it

by Anonymousreply 18July 29, 2025 6:36 AM

Pandora is great but they’re more a “channel” and less user friendly, no?

Like you build radio stations there vs choosing specific somgs

by Anonymousreply 19July 29, 2025 8:58 AM

With Amazon Music Unlimited you also get one free audiobook a month.

by Anonymousreply 20July 29, 2025 10:41 AM

Aren’t they all basically the same?

Pick one and go with it

by Anonymousreply 21July 29, 2025 10:51 AM

If you're a casual music listener, just pick one - very little difference overall

Download Soulseek and thank me later. I can't believe people rent music lol!

by Anonymousreply 23July 29, 2025 11:29 AM

r23 "lol!"

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 24July 29, 2025 11:35 AM

I've used Amazon Music for at least a decade and never had any problems. Spotify is actually on my list of serivces to get rid, but it's so cheap, I talk myself out of it. Plus if I can't find a song or podcast on Amazon, I can find it on Spotify.

R9 I tried the "Not giving money to (insert corporate monster here)" route for many years, but you know what? I'm not rich. Hell, I even work for a pretty large corporate monster that’s been around forever. There's a goddamn Walmart on every corner, and if I need something overnight, I go to Amazon.

Damn righteous indignation. I only hear that shit from trustfund babies and people who love the sound of their own voices. I need affordable and convenience. Withholding my $40 a week ain’t gonna hurt Mr. and Mrs. Prime.

But I admire your conviction.

by Anonymousreply 25July 29, 2025 11:41 AM

I have Alexa devices in my house and like playing music, but sometimes it's a bitch to get them to work with Spotify. I would consider switching to Amazon Music but I've got SO MANY playlists on Spotify the thought of recreating them pains me.

by Anonymousreply 26July 29, 2025 12:03 PM

As part of a music education project years ago, I have hundred of playlists across every geographical, genre, and time-period. But it's in Napster.

I have Amazon and Apple music apps, too. I've considered exporting some of what I've amassed to Amazon, but some items have been deleted from the service and I suppose there's no real need.

And it's still handy when I want to listen to traditional music from Mali, jazz roots, Bolivian Baroque, or early Britten, I can nab it fast.

by Anonymousreply 27July 29, 2025 12:16 PM

r26 There are services which will transfer your playlists. I think for small transfers, it's free - larger ones may require you to pay something.

If you keep contorting yourself even more in order to justify your questionable lifestyle choices, R25, you'll end up a pretzel.

by Anonymousreply 29July 29, 2025 2:39 PM

R29 "Questionable lifestyle choices”

Dear GOD, that’s dramatic.

by Anonymousreply 30July 30, 2025 11:19 AM

Does AMZ music work with Google Home? Or does YT Music work with Alexa?

by Anonymousreply 31July 30, 2025 11:50 AM

I found the original cast recording of Mame (no Lucy) on Amazon Music and play it when doing chores.

If you dig around a little there are some great finds.

by Anonymousreply 32July 30, 2025 12:03 PM

I got frustrated with Apple several years ago and switched to Amazon music unlimited. I love it, mostly. Super easy to make playlists. Yes, there have been a few songs I haven’t been able to find there. Also, songs will disappear from your playlists sometimes, I suppose because of something to do with the rights. Usually, I can find another version on the service, like from a different album.

by Anonymousreply 33July 30, 2025 12:43 PM

Sir, this is a Wendy’s.

by Anonymousreply 34July 30, 2025 5:35 PM

I use it with Prime on occasion to have classical music in the background while reading.

by Anonymousreply 35July 30, 2025 6:27 PM

R35 OF COURSE, you do (fon, fon, fon)
