I expect that will be the upper limit of what universities will pay in settlements.
Harvard Is Said to Be Open to Spending Up to $500 Million to Resolve Trump Dispute

Pay to whom? For what?

Pay to Salvation Army for Christmas and for life!

Extortion by a lawless dictator. And like Columbia, Harvard has now decided to bend over instead of standing up to Trump.

Why? Itās bullshit!

The reason for the capitulation? It has brought research to a screeching halt. They do not have access to the billions in federal research funding, existing grants for present research has been terminated, and they are open to apply for new grants.
It's fucking DISGUSTING how he was weaponized this.
The fucking evil cabal Trump has on his team - it's not just him, it is his advisors and those responsible for Project 2025. And yet, it's legal?
I know retribution will only make things worse, but I really want Republicans and their districts TO PAY DEARLY for all of this crap. See how they like weaponizing the government against them for a change.

How is it legal, R9, if Congress approved the funds? He's doing a lot of shit that is beyond his power, yet no one stops him.
What he used to do behind closed doors during his first term, he's now doing right out in the open with zero fear of reprisal.

R10 - Supreme Court allowed him to do whatever he wants as long as Congress (Republican ran) doesn't intervene - and they won't.
He's got a green light to do anything and he knows it.
It pains me to write that - but that's absolutely what's going on.
Dems need to completely change the Supreme Court in the next cycle - term limits, investigations of impropriety, etc. The whole 'oh the court will police itself' - NOBODY HAS EVER EFFECTIVELY POLICED ITSELF in the history of the world.

People need to read about Curtis Yarvin - he's the political guru that all the billionaire tech bros are are extolling. He's in favor of a monarch, chosen by tech bros. Doesn't favor democracy at all. And at the top of his targets? UNIVERSITIES
This is a deliberate plan to weaken and destroy democracy by damaging the institutions that train people in politics and law. And the Supreme court, mostly made up of people trained at those universities, is aiding and abetting it, because they probably don't even know about it.

Extortion
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 29, 2025 10:56 AM |
Heās hideously unattractive, R12.

If Harvard is forced to pay this ransom I hope they sue the federal government as soon as Trump is dead.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 29, 2025 3:51 PM |
The time to stand up to Trump is now, not after they years after the concede.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 29, 2025 3:53 PM |
But how would they pay this money? To whom? For what purpose?
Is it just going into fucking Trump's fucking pocket?
How would Harvard even label this expense in their check register? As a bribe?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 29, 2025 3:55 PM |
File under "Extortion".
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 29, 2025 3:59 PM |
R17 - yes, you have to wonder where this money is going to.
Like the last Trump administration, it's going to take YEARS to uncover all the fraud and abuse by Trump during these years. Meanwhile, the Republicans will say 'we need to move forwaard' and will try to block every single investigation - and the media will go along with it.
It's so fucking hard to keep a positive attitude - I was doing OK for a bit this year, but it's taking a huge mental toll on my mental health.

The core problem here is that all federal research $, grants, etc. have always come with basic strings attached. Absent the issue of procedural due process, the power of the purse allows many limitations on who, when and how to use most federal funds.
