Why do I keep seeing this term now? Commonly used by people who claim they aren't christian but "culturally christian".
Sounds like some bullshit a white supremacist would use.

I've never heard this term. Sounds like a vague, wanting to fit in but not really believing anything, excuse of a phrase.

Celebrates Christmas?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 28, 2025 4:48 PM |
Lies
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 28, 2025 4:48 PM |
What r2 said. Someone who doesn't attend church but puts up a Christmas tree. That's about it.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 28, 2025 4:49 PM |
translates to 'hypocrite', just like real KKKristians

Richard Dawkins described himself as such more than a decade ago now, so this definitely isn't something new, you just might be hearing it for the first time.

NO, it is similar to cultural jew. Meaning you are not religious, but you follow the customs and holidays.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 28, 2025 4:53 PM |
I prefer “cafeteria Catholic”—it’s a more precise term.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 28, 2025 4:53 PM |
R7 it’s not the same. It’s made up bullshit from the right. Nothing like the term “cultural Jew” that has a very long history.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 28, 2025 4:55 PM |
I describes me, in a way. I mostly see family on Christian holidays.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 28, 2025 4:59 PM |
Sounds like some bullshit Grimes would come up with to say she's a white supremacist but still coming across as cool and sophisticated. Probably what Curtis Yarvin calls himself.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 28, 2025 5:03 PM |
That’s not what any cultural Jew does.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 28, 2025 5:03 PM |
It means they celebrate Christmas, and would go to a church wedding or funeral…but don’t really believe any of it.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 28, 2025 5:10 PM |
I interpret it it as performative. You promote the image and wish to be viewed as a Christian in order to fit into your particular social groups, but you don't follow, comprehend, or truly believe and/or wish to follow any of it.
See Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 28, 2025 5:31 PM |
Maybe you're onto something r14. I know a few atheist real estate agents who are always going to church functions.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 28, 2025 5:42 PM |
R14 really? Trump is a diametrically opposed Christian. He can’t even fake it

[quote]What is a "cultural christian"?
Someone who appreciates devout poetry, sacred music, church architecture, and the King James Bible. Who attends Christenings, Marriages and Funerals imbued with Christian observances. Ask them however if they believe in the Virgin Birth, and the Resurrection, and the answer is quite likely to be uncertain at best.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 28, 2025 6:31 PM |
In the US it would be a MAGA voter with fascistic fantasies and/or tendencies.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 28, 2025 6:34 PM |
[quote] That’s not what any cultural Jew does.
Secular Jews.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 28, 2025 6:46 PM |
Most Jews are culturally Jewish, not religious.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 28, 2025 6:46 PM |
R4 is correct. It's someone who celebrates Christmas and, for example, says "god bless you" when someone sneezes, but doesn't profess or follow the Christian faith. It differentiates between Christians, non-christians, and cultural Christians. Most cultural Christians were raised at least nominally in the faith but don't identify with it in adulthood.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 28, 2025 6:52 PM |
Someone who was probably raised in one of the Christian denominations, no longer practices it, but who observes the Christian holidays in a secular manner. You can make the argument that the USA is a broadly Christian culture, as is Europe.

R18 is Birdie Hubbard
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 28, 2025 7:34 PM |
It means, "I don't go to church or believe any of that mess, but I still hate Muslims."
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 28, 2025 8:18 PM |
It's like non religious Jew, I guess. Grew up in a Christian household with Christian customs but isn't a believer.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 28, 2025 8:23 PM |
That's exactly what it is, R25.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 28, 2025 8:26 PM |
Christmas, Easter, wedding rituals in a church, funeral rituals - those are all culturally Christian.
Birth/wedding/burial and holidays - those are the main things that can define a religious culture - even if you don't believe in it, you still perform many of the cultural aspects of that religion.
The rituals around birth/wedding/burial and holidays are different among Jews than Christians - as they are with Muslims.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 28, 2025 8:30 PM |
That’s not how it is in a Jewish household. You fake Christian’s will never get it…
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 28, 2025 9:57 PM |
What does Christian possess?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 28, 2025 10:07 PM |
An empty souls. What’s you have?
