I remember her summer filler variety show in the 1970s. I think it was on CBS. THE BOBBIE GENTRY HAPPINESS HOUR. It was a Sonny & Cher knockoff. I couldn't have seen more than one episode but it musy have had lots of promotion as I still remember the theme song.

One of the great figures of American pop and country music.

Infused with a Southern Gothic sensibility, her best work is what she composed herself, songs full of mystery and ambiguity and beauty alternating with tempestuous sagas and the occasional rollicking good time.

I wish she hadn’t disappeared, but I guess that’s what she wanted. Her legacy is magnificent.
