Man I'm gonna get tomatoes thrown at me for this one--and it's against my better judgement to even post it. The other day I attempted to watch One Night in Idaho on Amazon about the Moscow college students who were murdered. I didn't last 20 minutes because I quickly determined through all of the cellphone footage and IG photos of the Gen Z victims that they irked me and therefore I really didn't care what happened to them. Even their parents were vapid, using words like "adulting." I had to abort.
I felt the same way when I watched the Netflix documentary about Chris Watts. His wife was so annoying that it was hard for me to feel bad for her.

Among the things I couldn’t give the tiniest shit about are Brexit (you reap what you sow), Trump (you reap what you sow), household tasks, my overdraft, my job, pronouns, any letter after LGB, mowing my lawn, global warming (you reap what you sow), the weather, my noisy neighbours and my general lack of organisation.

I'm using my car to go from point A to point B as easily as possible. I'm not on a racetrack. I don't need to constantly down-shift and up shift every 5 minutes for every light and stop sign.
It's absurd. There is no energy-efficiency difference with the new automatic engines and city traffic is just not designed for manual.

The Blake Lively/Justin Baldoni saga. At first it was interesting, but now it's getting tiresome with all these filings. I'll be interested again in March 2026.
The Menendez Bros. Will they or won't they get paroled? I don't care. I'd rather see Betty Broderick get out.

r139 It's called "thread drift," a phenomenon which became familiar way back in Newsgroup days and is considered pretty normal. Standard response of those who want to return to the thread's original concept would be to post something innocuous on the order of, "This is all very well, but can we get back to talking about . . . "

Genealogy. It's interesting to discover 2-3-4 generations back and where they were from if they immigrated. Or to plug up blanks in your history or discover if family stories are actually true.
Otherwise, it's a subjective hunt for something noteworthy or historical that you can talk/boast about - while you ignore the other 99% of your family tree who lived humdrum lives of no importance.
Your family tree grows so wide after 3 generations back, any branch is only a small story and not indicative of who you are today.
Yes - an immigration story and the details are interesting. The decision to uproot your life and move to a foreign country you've never seen is a bold move.
But it usually feels like people trying to attach themselves and their being to some point of historical significance or prominence for their egos.

Honestly, the whole Middle East. A warring shithole for centuries that will never change and could be the death of us all.
That said, my inner Judge Judy wants to say, "Hamas, give back the hostages. If you don't, you can starve. Israel, quit bombing. If you don't, not one more penny from the United States. That's all. You can leave."

I would hope people grow out of this after their 20s - but nope. I don't care - and somehow I'm 'weird' that I don't have an Instagram account with more than a 1000 followers.

R165 My MAGA sister in flyover country, who is fed a 24-hour diet of Fox News, called me in a panic telling me to get to high ground because the tsunami was coming. I told her that our local authorities said they weren't expecting massive waves - if any - and that people are only being cautioned to stay away from the beaches at this point.
She then proceeded to tell me that the liberal media was lying to me and that I need to go to my rooftop because Fox said a massive tsunami was heading toward California.
Sigh.

Food insecurity. I've never seen a person in the US that was actually dying of starvation, unless it was deliberate. The poor people who complain that their welfare checks don't cover their food bills are usually morbidly obese.
