R27. it's true. Try saying a negative word about her on Reddit and you will get downvoted into oblivion. It's so weird to me as someone who was in middle school when she released "Baby One More Time". I hated all that teen pop/boy band garbage during that time and I still hate it today.Even as an 11 year old, I thought she was dumb as rocks. I'm an outlier though, my other friends have big nostalgia for that time period's music. It's weird that Britney's music is seens as classic now when nobody took it seriously when I was growing up. Unlike Madonna and Michael Jackson, who were actually acclaimed during their peaks.

It says more about the complete lack of quality of today's music when even Britney's barely adequate pop sounds classic in comparison.

To be 100% honest, I think Britney Spears has the best catalogue out of all of the pop singers. I was listening to Blackout, Circus and Femme Fatale the other day. When she had that Pop Machine behind her, she had so many good hits. A lot of unreleased good music. When you add it up, she has more songs you want to listen to than Gaga, Rihanna, Janet, Beyoncé and dare I even say Madonna. Her catalogue from the aughts is amazing.

Blackout is a stellar pop album. I’ve always liked this hidden gem.

Totally disagree. To each their own,. but there is absolutely no way Britney Spears has a better catalogue than Madonna. Madonna was churning out very good/great albums into the 00s, three decades into her career. Britney Spears barely lasted a decade. There is no way in hell she has a better catalogue than Janet or Madonna. Those woman actually contributed to their music despite what their naysayers say. Can anyone imagine Britney actually contributing anything to Blackout or Circus? No, all anyone can imagine is Britney strapped to a ventilator as her team forces her to sign over her rights allowing them to manipulate her voice in one milllion ways on any record that they choose.

I think Britney Spears is the reason that the "poptimism" movement has gone too far. Her music was correctly dismissed as disposable trash when it first came out. Now, because of her mental health and the conservatorship, people are really overrating her work. And not just her work but the work of EVERY pop singer with a hit seems to be overhyped to death.

Britney had a few good hits and was at one point a very entertaining dancer. Which you can't say for any other popstar except maybe Beyonce in terms of dancing. Janet could move but in Velvet Rope days.

I don't know a pop star that could ever carry a concert by dance performances like Britney did in her early days, not Vegas days. Most need a whole lot of bells and whistles and props to be that entertaining.

You can totally disagree r51 and it’s just my opinion. But I lived through all of these women’s careers. I bought all of their albums. I am not going back to Music or Ray of Light 25 years later and relistening. Maybe they are too much a part of their time for me, periods I don’t want to revisit.

I was never a huge Britney fan, ever. I just know the machine behind Britney Spears at the height of her exceptional earner era produced some amazing pop songs that I enjoy to this day. It isn’t about her influence on the tracks, it’s the machine manipulating her vocals to make great songs. And she has some really good music and a great catalogue because of it.

Gimmie More is a great song. I hope whoever came up with “It’s Britney Bitch” is lounging by a pool in the Hollywood Hills. They deserve it. Was it Robyn? I don’t think Britney’s music gets enough credit because of how disinvolved/packaged she appears to be. But when it comes to pop music, maybe that is better. And Britney does have a certain je ne sais quoi about her or else she’d just be Dua Lipa. From reports of producers who have worked with her - there is a studio magic that does happen with her. They realize why she’s a mega star.
