What do you suppose Trump’s plan is for CBS/Paramount?

If he ends up with influence or control, is the goal to create another Fox News-style media arm? Could we see a shift in the kinds of movies and shows being produced—more subtle (or not-so-subtle) right-wing messaging? Curious to hear what others think this could mean for mainstream entertainment.

His next demand will be to cancel SouthPark.

by Anonymousreply 1July 25, 2025 3:58 PM

Trump has no plans, just reactions. He's moving on to South Park next.

He's not a King. He only has the power people give him. CBS should have said Fuck NO! from the beginning.

I’m getting a show!!! It’s only for white people!

CBS, like all media, is owned by Trumper billionaires. They're not being forced to do anything and they'll NEVER "stand up" to him. They're happy to capitulate to their God-King.

It’s interesting to see this mythology being created in real-time.

I hope CBS/Paramount go bankrupt.

by Anonymousreply 8July 25, 2025 4:15 PM

I read that Strange New Worlds was delayed due to rewrites and reshoots designed to preemptively appease Trump.

One of the new owners of Paramount, David Ellison, has ideas about how he would change CBS News. It includes incorporating anti-woke crusader Bari Weiss's perspective into the network news. Google AI says:

[quote] Recent reports indicate that David Ellison, the CEO of Skydance Media and the incoming owner of CBS News, is reportedly interested in incorporating Bari Weiss's editorial perspective into CBS News. According to CNN, Ellison has met with Weiss to discuss a potential collaboration between CBS News and Weiss's media startup, The Free Press.

[quote] The reports suggest that Ellison is seeking to infuse CBS News with a more diverse range of perspectives, potentially including Weiss's right-of-center viewpoints. However, it's important to note that these discussions are ongoing and a deal is not yet finalized, according to The New York Times.

[quote] It's also worth noting that some sources suggest that Ellison's interest in Weiss and The Free Press may be driven by a desire to cater to conservative audiences and potentially address perceived bias within CBS News, according to fair.org. In summary, there's evidence suggesting that David Ellison, the new owner of CBS News, is open to including Bari Weiss's perspective in the network's editorial direction, and he's reportedly engaged in discussions to achieve this goal.

R2 I agree. I think people often attribute to Trump a long-term strategic plan... he is like a child (and getting more so with senescence) and reacts to what's in front of him. Steven Miller and others (e.g. Project 2025) are strategic.

The reason Trump gets away with this shit and with shake downs directed at corporations and foreign countries with his tariffs ploys, is because in the past, when the U.S. negotiated, there were r ules, either implicit or explicit, and laws, and protocols, and parameters. With Trump he has shown himself to be vindictive, and mean, willing to literally do anything. No guard rails, no rules, no laws. He will go as far as people let him. His motto is "Who's gonna stop me?" and no one ever does because they KNOW there are consequences. He scares them. He bullies, and he will come back around and get you. Ugly, mean vicious, cruel, spiteful. That's how he succeeds.

by Anonymousreply 12July 25, 2025 4:47 PM

And yet when he's challenged he usually folds. Never give people power willingly. Too many never learned that and they give in to fear instead of standing up to bullies.

Re-runs of "The Apprentice" at least 8 hours a day. Lifestyle shows starring Ivanka, Lara, and Melania. Loops of past Trump press conferences, rallies, and assassination stunts. AI-generated Trump-as-Superhero shows. Many beauty pageants, past and present. "Victoria's Secret" re-runs. A "Truth Social" News Hour at 6PM.

Plenty of content to run 24/7.

CBS is ripe for the picking. Their prime time programming is already militaristic — Boston Blue (Danny’s grasp to hold on after Blue Bloods went away), all the flavors of NCIS, Fire Country, Sheriff Country…they’re all pablum and wanking material for armchair patriots. Trump and his fans will fit right in.

How long is it going to take for this goddamn sale to come through?
