Gallup latest poll — Trump approval rating has dropped to 37%

Lowest yet, for his second term. The shift downward is being driven especially by Independents who have changed their minds. Responses were gathered between July 7 and 21.

This is a most welcome indicator. 43% in May, 40% in June, 37% in July. Trump has lost 17 points among Independents since his January inauguration. If this holds, or even worsens, then we are definitely looking at a Democratic House majority in the Nov 2026 midterms.

Wouldn't make any practical difference if it dropped to 0.

by Anonymousreply 1July 25, 2025 12:40 PM

R1 I agree! The polls are useless. He has always had constantly bad poll numbers and always wins because the American people STILL hate the democrats more.

by Anonymousreply 2July 25, 2025 12:44 PM

“Useless” seems too categorically dismissive to me, but I get the frustration.

What we have learned from 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential election polling is that, with remarkable consistency, Trump performed 3 to 4% better (and his Dem rival 3 to 4% worse) than the polling industry’s average.

Our fault (or at least mine) in 2024 was in thinking, like Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football, that surely THIS time would be different and the polls would be accurate with no undercounting of Trump’s support.

Will that Trump polling factor be transferred to the 2028 GOP nominee or was it unique to Trump? That’s the next question. Romney enjoyed no such advantage in 2012, nor did McCain in 2008.

polls at this point are only indicative of the moment. AS AN INDICATOR, this is a very promising poll that putting a stake through the heart of MAGA and its fat assed, begirdled, high heeled badly blended face "He man" that leads them.

This poll shows he's losing independents at a rate that would make it almost impossible for him to regain them... independents will decide 2016 and 2028

He's weakening and this and other polls are saying PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH when he's down and don't let up til he's in the ground (figuratively of course)

by Anonymousreply 4July 25, 2025 1:16 PM

In other news, 37% of Americans are complete trash.

by Anonymousreply 5July 25, 2025 1:22 PM

So what. The asshole is still president. Still alive.

by Anonymousreply 6July 25, 2025 1:26 PM

the conventional wisdom is Republican cunt MAGATS in Congress will start to abandon him if he hits 32% but you can see some distancing already over Epstein. The Epstein shit is definitely driving Dumps numbers down.

by Anonymousreply 7July 25, 2025 1:28 PM

Of all the horrible shit that Dump has done, it seems odd that the Epstein shit is the “bridge too far” for voters.

by Anonymousreply 8July 25, 2025 1:36 PM

Second-term curse.

by Anonymousreply 9July 25, 2025 1:38 PM

[quote]He has always had constantly bad poll numbers and always wins because the American people STILL hate the democrats more.

I think the point r1 was making is that he's on his second term, so approval ratings don't matter and will have no practical implications to speak of. We lost and we have to suffer for three and a half more years, everything else is cope.

by Anonymousreply 10July 25, 2025 1:41 PM

Gotta disagree, R10. It’s not just about Trump, it’s also an indicator of voters’ dissatisfaction and likelihood of wanting a change. Barack Obama 2008 happened in part by his own charisma and oratory gifts, but also in part by the good fortune of Bush’s abysmal 2nd term rating. He would never have gotten near the presidency if people had still been feeling pretty good about Bush-Cheney.

This is an encouraging sign for the Democrats in Nov 2026. And beyond, if it holds or worsens.

by Anonymousreply 11July 25, 2025 1:49 PM

I disagree with R10. Public revulsion at his actions really will have consequences. He will be less daring in his destruction if he knows everyone hates him. More specifically, Congressional Rs will not be so blindly loyal when they see these horrible poll numbers.

It's remarkable that Columbia cracked under the pressure of this toxically unpopular man.

"He has always had constantly bad poll numbers and always wins because the American people STILL hate the democrats more."

He has always had constantly bad poll numbers and always wins because the American people STILL hate women, children, blacks, Asians, Gays, Trans, Latinos, poor people, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, more.

The Wall Street Journal released a poll yesterday that had his approval at 46%. I think it's probably somewhere in the low 40s.

The main thing is that his support has really cratered among people in their 20s.

by Anonymousreply 14July 25, 2025 3:18 PM

In a healthy country, he would have an approval rating in the low 20s. It's sad to think that he has a much higher approval rating than Richard Nixon had. Nixon had many redeeming qualities, and his misdeeds were minor compared to Trump's. That's how much we have declined in 50 years.

by Anonymousreply 15July 25, 2025 3:43 PM

Gee, who could've seen this coming?

by Anonymousreply 16July 25, 2025 3:53 PM

I heard a poll that among Republicans he has a 97% approval rating.

by Anonymousreply 17July 25, 2025 4:02 PM

I'm waiting for the little child to confront him with taunts and laughter, "Look, Daddy; the Mad Orange King is naked under his strait jacket!!"

by Anonymousreply 18July 25, 2025 4:47 PM

Is this the first poll to show his approval dip below 40 this term? Another psychological blow to rattle him.

by Anonymousreply 19July 25, 2025 6:50 PM

No matter, damage is being done at breakneck speed, we will never recover or be the same country.

by Anonymousreply 20July 25, 2025 7:05 PM

Who woulda thought a second Trump term would be pure chaos and destruction for the USA/world?
