Hollywood Royalty and DL Icon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Confirms ‘Murder, She Wrote’ Reboot In Works: “Oh, It’s Happening!"

After Deadline reported a Murder, She Wrote reboot in the works at Universal, Jamie Lee Curtis has officially confirmed she’s on the case.

The Oscar winner revealed she “a minute away” from taking over the late Angela Lansbury’s beloved middle-aged mystery writer and amateur sleuth role, Jessica Fletcher, in a feature adaptation of the CBS series that ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to ’96.

“Oh, it’s… happening,” Curtis playfully confirmed to Entertainment Tonight. “We’re a minute away, but yeah, [I’m] very excited. Very excited. But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”

In December, Deadline’s The Dish exclusively reported that Curtis was in talks to star in a Murder, She Wrote film penned by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, with producers Lord Miller and Amy Pascal.

Lansbury starred from 1984 to 1996 in what became one of the most successful and longest-running shows in TV history. Her Jessica Fletcher was a retired schoolteacher turned successful mystery writer, who proves to have an uncanny knack for solving real-life murders. The show was primarily set in the seaside town of Cabot Cove, Maine, though Jessica often travels to other locales as cases unfold.

Scoring four Golden Globes and multiple Emmy nominations for her performance as Jessica Fletcher, Lansbury reprised the role for four TV movies.

Ugh. No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 1July 24, 2025 10:57 PM

Great, looking forward to her histrionic Emmy campaign.

by Anonymousreply 2July 24, 2025 11:00 PM

I'll be rooting for someone to murder Jessica Fletcher.

by Anonymousreply 3July 24, 2025 11:05 PM

Some things don't need remaking. The beauty of the original was not just Angela, but the quirkiness of Cabot Cove and a top-notch supporting cast. Plus you had the creme de la creme of old Hollywood in supporting roles.

by Anonymousreply 4July 24, 2025 11:08 PM

One of my greatest pleasures was watching Murder She Wrote with my mom and her filling me with stories of all the old stars that hadn't been in anything in decades. This should be a place for actors like Skipper to come back. I won't be happy if I'm not racking my brain to figure out who someone is and then delighted when I recognize them from Bosom Buddies or an old episode of Amen

FIFY.

by Anonymousreply 6July 24, 2025 11:24 PM

Never understood why anyone would invite Fletcher anywhere since someone always ends up dead.

by Anonymousreply 7July 24, 2025 11:54 PM

Didn’t Angela put the kibosh on a proposed reboot several years ago with Octavia Spencer? Too bad she’s no longer here to give her thoughts about this one.

by Anonymousreply 8July 25, 2025 12:05 AM

R8, who owns the rights to M,SW? If the family does, are they the ones looking to make a buck with a re-boot? Angela may not have wanted a re-boot (with Octavia or anyone else), but her kids could be looking for cash.

by Anonymousreply 9July 25, 2025 12:10 AM

Whose dumb idea was this?? Murder, She Wrote worked because of Lansbury. They’ll have her being chased by Michael Myers freaks. And a movie!? I doubt this will ever film but we’ll see.

by Anonymousreply 10July 25, 2025 12:12 AM

Angela sold the rights to the show and said that it was one of the biggest mistakes of her life.

by Anonymousreply 11July 25, 2025 12:12 AM

R5, it’s a movie, not a tv show.

by Anonymousreply 12July 25, 2025 12:13 AM

Murder, She Woke.

by Anonymousreply 13July 25, 2025 12:15 AM

Curtis has hit peak insufferable

What a cunt

by Anonymousreply 14July 25, 2025 12:29 AM

Her ego has become as big as her dick.

by Anonymousreply 15July 25, 2025 12:36 AM

How many people did Jessica kill in 12 years?

I honestly couldn't have ever expected JLC to be an Oscar winner and to be at the peak of her career at this age.

Great for her - but nobody could have foreseen this. She talked multiple times about retiring in her career - and she always manages to stage a big comeback. Over and over again.

Never saw a single episode of MSW though.

by Anonymousreply 18July 25, 2025 1:45 AM

I can't stand the cunt.

by Anonymousreply 19July 25, 2025 1:50 AM

They tried this with Octavia Spenser and it didn't go anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 20July 25, 2025 2:01 AM

R19 = Michael Myers, finally understood.

by Anonymousreply 21July 25, 2025 2:13 AM

Get a life, Jamie Lee...

by Anonymousreply 22July 25, 2025 2:21 AM

Why?

by Anonymousreply 23July 25, 2025 2:24 AM

She's too dumb to play Jessica Fletcher.

Murder, They Wrote

by Anonymousreply 27July 25, 2025 2:36 AM

The Octavia Spencer one was going to be a complete reboot. Jessica Fletcher was going to be a nurse in San Francisco who started writing mysteries in her spare time. That's what Angela objected to. She felt since they were changing it so much, why did they need to make her be Jessica Fletcher?

So they changed it and made "Truth Be Told," and Octavia did a murder podcast rather than writing books. Her character name was Poppy Parnell.

by Anonymousreply 28July 25, 2025 2:53 AM

And the publicity photos for her starring role in the series remake, can be of her beaming at the camera while holding up her Academy Award! 😁

by Anonymousreply 29July 25, 2025 3:24 AM

Will this feature old Hollywood stars like the original?

by Anonymousreply 30July 25, 2025 3:39 AM

This and Matlock are what I termed “old people shows” when they were prime time. Now I’m old, but I still wouldn’t watch them.

by Anonymousreply 31July 25, 2025 3:51 AM

She was born of two famous actors, it's in her blood. I don't mind cutting her some slack.

by Anonymousreply 32July 25, 2025 3:56 AM

They must be trying to recreate what Kathy Bates did for Matlock.

The difference, of course, is that everyone loves Bates.

by Anonymousreply 33July 25, 2025 4:34 AM

[quote] it’s a movie, not a tv show.

R12, we all know that they’re using this “movie” as a test run to see how well it does with viewers before turning it into a series.

by Anonymousreply 34July 25, 2025 4:44 AM

Alok Vaid-Menon is in negotiations to star as her sidekick.

by Anonymousreply 35July 25, 2025 5:41 AM

I think a reboot is confirmed only in her head.

by Anonymousreply 36July 25, 2025 5:55 AM

Which one?

by Anonymousreply 37July 25, 2025 6:36 AM

Unless you have the old washed-up stars, there's nothing to watch. Now people seem to have longer careers and if they don't do streaming, they do voice, so there isn't the large number of people whom you thought were dead and the one's the could cast would be those from series tv, Bonnie Franklin-level actors.

by Anonymousreply 38July 25, 2025 11:29 AM

Production crew will quickly get tired of her cunt “artistic perfectionist” bullshit. and shut it down.

by Anonymousreply 39July 25, 2025 12:03 PM

May happen-Won't last.

by Anonymousreply 40July 25, 2025 12:04 PM

I used to like that actress but she is too ill to enjoy.

by Anonymousreply 41July 25, 2025 12:05 PM

OP your headline should read Academy Award Winner Jamie Lee Curtis

by Anonymousreply 42July 25, 2025 12:20 PM

Let’s identify the main characters! I’ll start:

Jessica has a young black female assistant.

The Police Chief of Cabot Cove is a tall black trans woman!

Jessica is bi

Jamie Lee Curtis as Jess Fletcher in "Murder, She? Wrote".

by Anonymousreply 44July 25, 2025 12:45 PM

Jamie Lee Curtis is better suited to play Mary Worth than Jessica Fletcher.

by Anonymousreply 45July 27, 2025 2:44 AM

I love Bates, r33. I used to think I could watch her in anything. Matlock is an exception to that rule. I tried, but the writing is horrible. Her character is unlikeable in an unwatchable way.

I have no interest at all in MSW.
