Unfortunately, it's either this or tearing it down. If you want apartments inside, that is. I've seen the original façade preserved only when they remodelled former churches into gyms or stores.

The architect should have a finger chopped off for the asymmetrical window over the entrance.

Either the NY Post can be rabidly pro-billionaire (for example: their horror at Mamdani raising taxes on the rich) or they can freak out about wrecking NYC culture to make housing for said billionaires.

But it's a bit rich to do both.

I would have zero confidence with what was done on the inside under the walls and flooring. That's just ugly and cheap.

This. It's the signature barbaric middle finger - as though the whole philistine project was energised by contempt for sacred space and its expression. By all means remove that middle finger.
