Mehdi Hassan’s wild interview with young conservatives
Mehdi Hasan recently walked straight into the lion’s den on Jubilee’s “Surrounded,” facing an entire room of young conservatives, many of whom seemed to revel in showing just how far out their beliefs stray from the mainstream. Hasan, who described the experience as debating “20 far far far right conservatives,” was greeted by everything from open racism to wild conspiracy theories. Among the most jarring moments: one participant announced that white people are the real Native Americans, while another boldly argued, “Nazis may not have been that bad,” and insisted white genocide is a real thing. Hasan, trying to appeal to logic, was instead met with calls for him to “get the hell out” of the US and sneers about his Americanness.
These exchanges laid bare a level of indoctrination that is hard to ignore. Many participants seemed incapable, or simply unwilling, to engage rationally. Hasan could only sum up the experience as “not sure whether to laugh or cry,” noting the utter inability of anyone in the group to answer basic questions or rebut simple points. The session showcased a Generation Z contingent primed to take dog whistles at face value and treat hate speech as reasonable debate fodder.
Charlie Kirk’s influence lurked in the background. Having devoted years to peddling bigotry on college campuses, Kirk has made a business of normalizing racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia under a mask of “common sense.” His organization, Turning Point USA, is routinely called out for spreading hate and manufacturing division. Now, seeing so many young people parrot the hateful rhetoric he promoted, it is clear that a sizable and worrying slice of Gen Z has indeed swallowed his message.

I watched as much as I could stomach and I left not really being sure how serious they were.
Don't get me wrong; even as a joke it's unacceptable, but many of them had that mischievous "hehe I'm making people so mad with this!" expression on their faces.
Plus several of the guests have their own podcasts. There's money in them if you can get the clicks/attention and many seem to think the more 'out there' and extreme they are, the more clicks (and therefore money) they'll get.

I can only hope he booked the most conservative—racist, sexist, homophobic- guests

That guy in the pink shirt is not only the homeliest looking person, he is seething with anger. He's gonna end up hate criming or in some domestic abuse situation. That fat fuck who's so pround to a fascist got fired and apparently has already raised a shit ton of money via Go Fund Me.
Dystopian society here we come!

ALSO, did you know that white people are the REAL Native Americans?
I trip the ENTIRE fuck out when I see young people THIS angry. Entitlement--I'm okay with it because it’s expected. Each generation reaps from the labor of the previous. That, I get. But these MAGA young people are FUCKING sociopaths. Where’s their adversity? How has immigration--legal or illegal--hurt them?
My mother is an 83 year-old Black woman from Texas. She’s not even THIS angry. My father’s another story...

This is the current generation’s version of what Ann Coulter used to do. Trying to say as many offensive and outrageous things as possible for ratings and book sales. Today it’s podcasts and clicks and “likes”.

R9 Due to right wing propaganda - they believe that low wages and the unavailability of public welfare and services are due to migrants flooding the zone. They don’t associate the decreasing quality of life and economic opportunity with capitalism and austerity. They may even believe that Republicans are constantly trying to help the white working class, but Democrats keep robbing these programs for the exclusive benefit of immigrants.

R8 The Rift? More like The Grift.
I bet he's ecstatic he got fired, as raising money via a Go Fund Me is a lot less effort than working for it and now he can go on the right wing podcast circuit for more attention and money. No doubt he'll start his own channel using the publicity this has given him. Almost makes you wonder if that was the plan all along.

Who wants to tell him? Honey, their beliefs are the mainstream. WTF have you been? Do you not see the state of this country!? Trump would be reelected today if Americans were given the chance to vote for him again. The entire country is brainwashed and this is the new normal. Trump started his political career with birtherism back in 2013. That was 12 years ago. We’ve lived under this crap for over a decade now. It’s not going anywhere.

R22, they believe it. They've been fed a steady diet of Limbaugh and Fox in their parents back seats and living rooms since they could talk and then got red pilled by the internet which spoon feeds outrage porn that they followed to darker corners like stormfront, 4chan and kiwifarms. They can't buy a house or car or succeed in life and it couldn't be the fault of the politicians and billionaires that they worship or their own visible inadequacy so whose to blame? Women, minorities, immigrants and transgenders. These fuckers are true believers that they're talented and special and when you don't have anything to back that up, you point to the pale skin and the country you were born in and say that you're superior and supreme for it. Their little online hives offer them community that their own hometowns never did. They've infested gyms and gaming groups all over the place.

Jubilee is just for ragebait but the 20 vs 1 and other “debates” they have is an outlet and provide exposure to dangerous rightwing ideology. The owner of the program himself skews right. There isn’t common ground or trying to see the other side’s perspective when the MAGA participants they bring are full-blown Neo-Nazis.

These conservatives are angry because of one basic reason— the minority population is growing and they see that white men can’t be the kings of the hill anymore.
MAGA is a white supremacy cult. Period.
Amazing how mainstream commentators are too scared to admit that one major fact

The guy seems like a total moron, to be honest.
He seems to have no idea what he's talking about, and just pulling shit out of his ass.

I saw an interview with Mehdi, and he hinted that Jubilee didn't show the worst of it. Can you imagine? I think, despite Mehdi handling himself so well, he was shaken by the end of it. How could he NOT be? Who would've expected THAT much hate?

I also have to add that these children seem to all be oppositionally defiant. Like others stated above, I think it's from being raised on rage clicks and social media, combined with being raised with reich wing media. Say the most outrageous shit to get attention.
I'm 53 years old. I was hoping to get another 20-30 years of life, but I don't have much hope for the future. THESE are the people that'll be changing my diaper when I'm in my 80s? We're doomed.

[quote] THESE are the people that'll be changing my diaper when I'm in my 80s? We're doomed.
Ah, but you see, there's the thing.
They WON'T be "changing your diaper" when you're in your 80s.
These people would just as soon throw you out in the street, or discard you somewhere, or just euthanize you.
Either because you're gay, or a POC, or an immigrant, or a Democrat. It really doesn't matter, as long as you are some form of "other."
This generation lacks empathy, and compassion, and morals, and on and on.
So don't worry about having your diapers changed, hon. You'll have much bigger problems than that, with them in charge.
