In the 1960s and 70s through the mid 80s he was the king of Broadway. Everything he did pretty much turned to gold.
But today his plays rarely get revived anymore, and his name is associated with old-fashioned schmaltz more than hilarity.
What changed so much? Will his work ever make a comeback?
