It was hunter and jill who wanted Joe to run again. Do not blame it all on Jill

Biden did a lot of good things as President. And we are finding out now that Trump is taking a lot of stuff away, just what a good steady hand the Biden Administration was. But as I have said earlier, everyone believed and Joe did nothing to disabuse us of the notion, that he was transition POTUS, one term and hand it over to the next generation. We knew how old he was when we voted for him in 2020. His choice of Harris made her the heir apparent. ... then his ego got the best of him, he did absolutely nothing to uplift her as Obama did for him, instead he and his staff kept her in the background for more than two years, while his staff undermined her with whisper campaigns, trying to drag her down. His decision to run again was pure ego fed by his close knit cabal of staffers and his family, primarily Jill and Hunter. IMO as I have said before, this did major harm to Harris' candidacy. The other fault of Biden was his complete failure to address the insurrection and not prosecute Trump. That rotten motherfucker should have been in prison. None of the 147 members of Congress who were election deniers should have been seated. Joe owns that and Merrick Garland. I find his failures in these regards unforgivable.

I love Joe Biden and think he did a great job as POTUS. But face it, there is no way he could have done a full 2nd term. And I think this tirade by Hunter shows extreme low class. It's like something Uday or Qusay Trump would do.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 22, 2025 12:52 AM |
You know what? After reading the comments Hunter made about Clooney, Axelrod, Carville and the Pod Save America guys, I don't disagree with him. And it is true the Biden administration, Joe's staff and Joe were pissed off at the charges brought against Bebe and Joe was offended that Amal and George were part of that. Yes. There was blow back. And George was vindictive. Clooney has never been someone I revered. The Pod Save America guys are exactly as he describes them, and Axelrod is too. In fact Axelrod has more in common with the GOP than with the Dems. And Carville lost his entertainment value ten years ago. But I still stand by my post at R35. Hunter is standing up for his dad who is dealing with cancer. I get it. But Joe fucked us...and not in a good way.

[quote]I bet in his heart of heart's Obama regrets the day he chose Biden as his VP given the way things turned out.
I question this.
While Obama easily won his second term, it might not have gone his way the first term without having one of the old guard, old white men as his running mate.
As for "the way things turned out," cheeto winning again is about a lot more than Biden or anything Biden did or didn't do. cheeto winning in 2024 reflects larger trends and deep-seated animosities than many of us would have anticipated.
Many people argue that a confluence of specific historical circumstances, political decisions, and failures of international politics made WWII inevitable. I wonder what historians will say about this period in US history 30 or 40 years from now.

Historians will also say that our "freedom of the press" was debased and violated the tenets of truth. We need the next POTUS to ironclad reform of the FCC. Reagan opened the door for Murdoch Ailes, and the rest. And the internet, social media too. Other countries. real democracies in Europe do not have this problem. Of course they educate their people. That's another thing historians may wantbto look at. The dumbing down of the elctorate.

R47, people voted for Trump because he said he would lower prices at the grocery store, which he could not since the US government doesn’t set prices at the grocery store or anywhere.
THATS IT. If Kamala had said such a ridiculous thing, they’d have swayed more in her direction. She did hint at price fixing but it wasn’t enough and it was equally ridiculous. Stop trying to read so much into Trump’s appeal outside of MAGA, it’s very basic. And stupid.

by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 22, 2025 1:33 AM |
R35 A recent book about the 2024 election also stated that Biden made clear to Kamala there was to be "no daylight" between them on policy issues after she took over. That's why she struggled to differentiate herself from him during the campaign. Instead of saying "do what you have to do to win" and get some distance between his unpopular presidency and her run for the white house, he gave her a loyalty test.

Hunter Biden is defending his father's honor. Nothing wrong with that. He is a good son. His dad protected him like a father should, and Hunter Biden is angry at the world for treating his father poorly. I am not a fan of Democrats, but I think Hunter Biden is correct about George Clooney and those Pod Save America nobodies who think they are somebody. George Clooney is so full of himself and his self-importance because he is married to Amal. He looks down at the rest of us dweebs and says Look at me, I am married to a lawyer who fights for human rights (not all human rights, only the ones of her choice), so you all have to listen to me. He is a second-rate actor, with a high profile because he is good-looking and has positioned himself very well to be taken seriously. What has he done other than run a tequila business and marry Amal, and give money to democrats, which every self-important Hollywood person does anyway. And those three Pod Save America guys are so full of it. Three white men with not-so-bright minds who are democrats and close to Obama. That's it.

R56 Kamala won't say a word until Joe's dead and so are her ambitions for national office. She knows writing a book about Joe's impairments and mistakes will only serve to tarnish his legacy and the Democrats' brand, and that doesn't serve her purposes right now.
But someday, she'll sit down and tell it.

He’s still super angry that he & his family were treated like dirt, & I don’t blame him, even though he did genuinely bring a LOT of it upon himself.
His father, however, didn’t deserve the vitriol he received from MAGA & Trump, Inc.
As far as Clooney is concerned, Clooney was right that there was zero chance at Biden winning again after the poor showing at that horrendous debate. Trump would have ran in a landslide had it been Trump vs. Biden.
The above stated, this doesn’t mean that Biden wasn’t a fucking GREAT POTUS. He absolutely was! But in the political climate we have been unfortunately immersed in, he wouldn’t have come close to beating Trump.
That’s NOT Biden’s fault. It’s not Clooney’s fault, not Harris’ fault.
We’re currently caught in a cesspool of misinformation, disinformation, corruption, & a segment of our constituents are currently and most likely permanently brainwashed, as a result.
I wish President Biden, his son Hunter, & the Biden family, nothing but the VERY BEST.

R63 Joe's legacy deserves to go down in flames. Not for his body of work, but for how his own selfishness FUCKED US ALL OVER. We may never have another free election. We may not have a country left to defend in three years. We're being bled to death by this criminal felon and his billionaire pals, and when he gets done putting the brownies in cages, he's going to come after the rest of us. A lot of people are going to die before this is over. All because this low-rent old fuck from Delaware waited six months too long to say what the entire planet already knew: "Joe, you're too old, too stupid, and too far gone to run things anymore."
His onstage performance - totally avoidable - instantly killed his legacy. More than that, it greatly boosted Trump's image and made him look presidential just standing next to that Scranton corpse. Kamala had three months to dig the Titanic out of the mud and sail her to the Moon. No fucking wonder she couldn't make it work. Thanks, Joe.
Same goes for that Skeletor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her seat is now filled with some pre-menopausal Jesus CUNT who's already undone a lifetime of Ruth's hard work.
I don't care about your legacy. I don't care how many decades you've hung around, how many post offices bear your name, or any of that shit. My life and my country matter more to me than any one asshole in a suit ever will. And the fact that you ghouls loved power more than you loved your own country tells me that you deserve the half-century of ridicule and hate you're about to endure.

by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 22, 2025 2:56 AM |
The Media was out of control, so obviously in the tank for Trump for months before that debate. The lies, the divisive, fear mongering went unchallenged, the hyped up claims of a bad economy with INFLATION taking the place of "E-MAILS!!!" it was relentless. Trump promoted an image of criminal gangs of immigrants overrunning our streets. "Millions of criminals" and between the public's fear of crime and the inflation hype, and not giving proper weight to Kamala's campaign, the media promoted the inevitability of Trump, ironically,. as a change! So the openly hostile media environment contributed as much as Biden's failure to lift Harris up and his reluctance to prosecute Trump for January 6th. All of this factored in.
Joe Biden deported millions of illegal immigrants. between 3-4 million. So did Obama. We never saw this disgusting display of masked ICE agents ripping people from their families, arresting a judge in her courtroom as she conducted a trial? Stalking people on their jobs, at church, dropping kids off at school? And the pressure on the ICE agents to get their weekly quota because the Trump allegations of millions overrunning our cities, "voting illegally, tens of millions of illegals" was a fucking myth. A lie. But it was unchallenged by the media and what Kamala said was basically dismissed. Not covered.
And yes, we wouldn't have had to worry about a Trump presidency if Biden had done his job and made prosecuting the Insurrection and the leaders who planned it a priority. It could have been done outside the regular day to day of the DoJ, by a special tribunal that conducted hearings and investigations in all 50 states. But a Special Prosecutor wasn't even appointed until it was too late by fucking Merrick Garland.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 22, 2025 3:11 AM |
R35 is right, sadly. When the history books are written, the question is going to be how was a twice impeached President who started an insurrection allowed to run again.. And that falls on Biden and Merrick Garland’s shoulders. History books are also going to show the polls that stated a majority of democratic voters didn’t want Biden to run again. So why was public opinion ignored until almost the last minute?
And now they’re reduced to trotting out the Roseanne Barr defense for the debate? The Bidens have spent more time complaining about being forced out than they have expressing any remorse for Kamala losing. It’s embarrassing at this point and it’s says a lot about who they really are.

So both things can be true: Clooney, Carville, Obama & all the others are as bad as HB says, while Hunter has continually created a sideshow that continually embarrassed and weakened his already tottery father. R86, first I pretty much agree with you. I just watched the whole interview. It took 3 sittings. But IMO Hunter was doing what he believed his father had done for him. Stand up and defend and protect his dad. That's what this was. And honestly, Hunter was being Hunter, he didn't "create a side show" He was exposed and harassed by the corporate media and the GOP hit squad and became their poster boy for distracting everyone from Trump and the Extreme Right.
We had a "hunter Biden" in our family. He died 12 years ago. He OD'd. My uncle and aunt tried everything trying to support him and help him. He was an Addict. Unless you have dealt with addiction you have no idea how difficult it is. My cousin was 38 when he died. My uncle died of a heart attack two years after my cousin died. There were so many times when we thought "this time" he'll make it. But then he'd fail again.
Unfortunately, Hunter was a politician's son. Joe raised him while spending 50 + years in Congress. Politics was Joe's life. His sons didn't know anything else. Beau was "the good son." Clearly. Joe told everyone all the time. I have to wonder how that affected Hunter. Hunter was/is a mess. A failure. And the Media, thanks to the Extreme Right's media machine, dined out on Hunter's failures and excesses for years. They stalked him. And Hunter accommodated them. He posted his messes on social media. I almost wonder if it was his act of defiance towards his detractors. He embraced the "I'm not Beau" persona.
I am not a Hunter Biden fan. He seems like a big fuck up. But I do not disagree with him about Clooney, Tapper, the Pod Save America guys, Axelrod or Carville. Was there a conspiracy of Joe's inner circle, his WH staff to hide his failings? I think conspiracy is accurate to use it in this context. But I think there was an implicit agreement among the inner circle to protect Joe, just as there has been in every single WH including Reagan's when he had Alzheimer's and Nancy ran the government. I don't see a very bright future for Hunter. I think we'll be reading his obituary within the next 7-8 years.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 22, 2025 2:26 PM |
I think he is right about the democrats. Especially in regards to his comments on immigration. However if his father had been remotely competent in the debate - he would have been the candidate. Joe Biden's performance was shockingly bad. The real mistake was in not having a convention to unite the party and secure a nominee.
Oh and co-signing a genocide didn't help either.

It just constantly amazes me that Republicans can lie their asses off and for the most part their people and independents believe them, but Democrats can tell the truth and virtually no one believes them. Jan 6th 2021 should have meant that Trump could never get enough people to vote for him if he ran for dog catcher let alone President but here we are Trump in the White House again and 1500 felons pardoned for trashing our Capitol Building and at least a third of the country thinking the people rioting were nothing more than tourists who stayed inside the ropes and that the police opened the doors for them and let them all just walk in.

If he had been left alone to rot away at Mar-a-Lago, he wouldn’t now be president. People couldn’t resist charging him and making him a martyr to Republicans (and making Trump run to avoid prosecution). Obviously, there are people who will never admit to this being true, but it is what happened.

I've never understood why white women lusted after Clooney so much or why the media has had such a boner for him for 30 years.
Hunter is right. He is more of a media personality than he is an actor always has been. Most of his movies have bombed

I like him.
He’s deeply flawed, yet sincere, honest, and without pretense.
He’s got brilliant insights if you’d suspend your biases for a minute and listen.

[quote]It just constantly amazes me that Republicans can lie their asses off and for the most part their people and independents believe them, but Democrats can tell the truth and virtually no one believes them. America has a disproportionate amount of idiots. Facts don't matter. Truth doesn't matter. Trump only helped to expose the rot that already existed. It had been contained and relegated to the fringes of our politics, but it's now considered part of the mainstream. When a country elects a leader who pretty much said he'd dismantle the very system that worked for decades, provided years of stability and respect for the rule of law, the electorate got what they voted for and we all have to suffer the consequences of their idiotic choice.

Interesting how all those “Biden crime family” GOP investigations came to a screeching halt the second Trump won the presidency.
Just like all those Benghazi investigations ended with Trump’s first win.

For what? Getting a job he wasn’t qualified for?
Crime of the century!

I remember the Mighty Joe Biden trolls who held the entire Biden family up as paragons of virtue and honor and claimed Joe Biden's obvious strength and energy would ensure his massive popularity with voters across the USA would only continue to grow as he crushed Trump and his minions like little bugs under his Mighty Joe Biden Feet.
I remember TROLLS, hon, just like you, describing a reality that doesn't exist. No one here defended any Bidens but the Biden trolls. Stop seeing everyone in black and white. There is no one opinion that represents all of Datalounge.

The Bidens are like the Kennedys, only without the money.
They're horny, low-rent, under-educated, and seem to rely on "public service" as a cover for their sheer mediocrity.
And they're from Delaware, the Florida of the North.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 22, 2025 6:27 PM |
The (old) Kennedys were not low rent or under educated.

R108 Take away their ill-gotten bootlegger fortune and Hahvahd legacy admissions, and they sure as fuck would be.
America turns a blind eye to it because they keep getting plugged in the groceries and we're all supposed to feel sorry for their cursed family. But they're ghouls. The old man lobotomized his secret daughter, and fucked anything that moved. The sons were equally horny, and Teddy even drowned that broad in his car and took a day and a half to call the cops. Then John-John (who you all just wanted to fuck) got himself and his wife killed by flying a plane he wasn't qualified to fly and then crashing into the fucking ocean. Caroline campaigned for a US Senate appointment, and couldn't get through a single softball interview about her views on national affairs without, y'know, blathering like a mental patient. And then there's Bobby Jr., the guy with skin like a school bus seat and the brains of a heroin addict.

You know, Nixon had his brother who he had to keep finding jobs for until the JW Marriot organization parked him on a shelf. Lyndon Johnson had his brother Sam Houston Johnson. Oy! Jimmy Carter had his Evangelical Sister who road a motorcycle, he had Billy Carter who was a "consultant" for some Nigerian "businessmen" and the Bush family, those wonderful straight arrow Wasps and two sons, who were corrupt fuck ups embroiled in the Savings and Loan Scandal. Ronald Reagan Had Michael and Maureen and Patti. But no President's kids have been more incompetent and more corrupt and more prone to influence peddling than Trump's, and then there's Jared who adds smarts to the mix. And yet the Media, the corporate Media has fixated on Hunter.

"dey" = the blacks.
Also, President Biden's crackhead son was not placed in a public service role. President Biden's crackhead son is allowed to be a fuckup in his personal life.

The truth is, Joe getting out late was the least of it. Voters didn't show up like we needed them to. When I told my sister that 15% of the Black Vote went to Trump she thought that was good, until I showed her why it was too high . Biden got 92% of the Black vote. And look at the number of Latinos who went with Trump. Or white women.
